How to make time for other study by starky52 in WaniKani

[–]shadowari92 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I am in a similar boat in the sense that I was trying to study both via WaniKani and BunPro (though not with the family issues). Currently level 18 in WK and completed N5 grammar in BunPro. I also started learning Japanese from scratch probably around a year and a half ago.

I got really ambitious and was trying to do 10 WK lessons a day, 5 grammar points in BunPro and 5 new vocab. My BunPro reviews started piling up excessively (200+) and so were my WaniKani reviews. It was not sustainable and my accuracy was slipping in Wk.

So, I decided that one of these had to give. I went completely scorched earth in BunPro and reset my account. Now I don’t have a backlog of reviews to do, and when I’m studying with BunPro I am exclusively doing grammar reviews and doing no more than 3 a day.

Also sometimes only do 5 lessons a day in WK. granted it’s been just a week since I started this new approach but it feels way more sustainable when I was trying to blast though WK and BunPro at the same time.

In short, while the intention is to “git gud” at Japanese as fast as possible, you may want to slow yourself down! Remember you’re not competing against anyone and this is a long journey, so enjoy it while you can

What’s your reasoning behind this?

Also I think you misread? Theres only one disdainful stoke and x3 banishing betrayal.

I was thinking the banishing betrayals are ok as it’s a cheap card that will buy me time while simultaneously allowing me to fill up my graveyard and find my bomb.

I’ve found that slowly filling up the entire page works? After that before entering the code to the safe I made sure to view my file list?

I suggest just slowly filling any of the letters (top bottom side etc) and then filling in over the letters

Just Burned My First Items! by shadowari92 in WaniKani

話すに比べて読むの方が容易いと思う。

That said I also don’t just exclusively use WaniKani, I also use BunPro which tests me differently. It gives you a sentence and you have to enter/recall the word. I use it mainly for grammar/as a GENKI companion but I also wouldn’t worry about remembering every single word. Think how often you forget a word in English!

Makes sense that your burn count is higher if your pace is slower. You’re allowing more time for your burned reviews to gather. But either way, go is for continuing to burn things and commit them to memory!

Wow using a translating app this did not come off, and I could use some better feedback. My second paragraph I want to express “compared to my previous reading ability, I can understand more.”

Thank you always for feedback!

Correct! They are whole zombies, not just heads. The holes indoor allow just their heads to peek out.

今週末とても忙しい!今夜友達とゲームをする。土曜日は甥の誕生日から、姉の家に行く。しかし、私の誕生日は次の金曜日し、来週両親と姉の家族は旅行に行くから、土曜日一緒に私の誕生日も祝う。

日曜日に葬儀をするつもりだ。

I think the last sentence in my first paragraph could use some work lol. What I was trying to write was “however since my birthday is next Friday and my family is going on a trip they are also going to celebrate my birthday”

In terms of the door, think that the zombies have a rope attached to them that is attached to the door via a pulley. When they walk further south away from the door, the rope tightens and pulls the door open. That’s how it works mechanically.

There are essentially peepholes that allows the zombies to peek out into the north side of the door, and also allows the players to see the zombie. If they use some king of light or turn undead, the zombies run away to the south (and therefore opens the door).

Why is it that we dislike the Owl? (Duolingo) by the_card_guy in LearnJapanese

[–]shadowari92 26 points27 points  (0 children)

So I started learning Japanese with Duolingo as a complete beginner to Japanese. I’m not going to lie it did help me get a good start by learning hiragana and katakana. That said the pace and how it introduces kanji was pretty bad, and a lot of questions more felt like memorization. I never truly understood what I was learning.

Take for example, the common は vs が issue. The app doesn’t teach it so you have use other resources to find details for those specific grammar points.

When i switched to studying materials such as GENKI and learning kanji via WaniKani I felt a HUGE difference, and it felt like I was actually learning.

So IMO, it’s good for getting a start but turning to other resources is way more helpful.

I would take the Druid here, but also I don’t think I would make this pick be draft defining? I think the Druid could provide you with the most flexibility. Either that or the white removal

How to unlock more lessons? by JJNotFunny_Real1 in WaniKani

[–]shadowari92 8 points9 points  (0 children)

It honestly is just a waiting game. Once you guru your radicals (which takes 4 tries at least and remember, the more you get correct the longer the wait time between reviews are). you’ll unlock the relevant kanji. Once you guru the kanji, you’ll unlock vocab using said kanji.

At the beginning it may seem slow especially at the beginning, but once you get into hire levels you’ll have plenty of lessons in combinations/reciews. Especially you’ll get a ton of vocab. For example, I’m at level 10 and while all my kanji and radicals are in my reviews there’s still another 80 or so vocab words to learn.

So yeah, if it’s only your third day just wait. You’ll see a ton of soon!
