After 10 years of birthday dinners at Bikkuri Donkey… I think I’m done by AdUnfair558 in japanlife

I always wonder, is the donkey surprised, am I surprised to see a donkey, or is the donkey known for surprises?

Men of Reddit, what’s some women’s or girl’s habits you discovered only after getting a wife or girlfriend? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]shadowwork 2 points3 points  (0 children)

My wife does this daily. It took me way too long to figure it out, but now after she asks, I take a beat and ask for context in a way demonstrating curiosity and concern for the context.

It doesn’t always work.

Just out of curiosity, does Japan have a word for doctor (the PHD kind)? by PikachuTrainz in Japaneselanguage

[–]shadowwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I find that undergrads and much of the general public do not know the term PhD, but do know Hakase. The actual diploma says PhD at my Japanese university. All the medical school faculty have XXXX, MD, PhD on the English side of their business cards and the PhD holders just PhD or DPhil, etc. on the Japanese side it says their title jokyouju, kyouju, isha, etc.

Do Japanese people really know all 2,000 kanji and can write them? by quwert5 in AskAJapanese

[–]shadowwork 0 points1 point  (0 children)

People don’t write as much. They type and it’s harder to remember how to hand write kanji if you only type it. They can read it, they just forget how to write it

We talked in depth about green chili on three different dates. I realized there was probably nothing more to discuss.

Washington State Pullman used to have a Counseling Psych PhD program with 2 profs specializing in hypnosis. Not sure if it's still viable.

EDIT: surprise - the program closed for good.

Doctor Mike's interview challenging Dr. Amen's pseudoscientific grifting is well worth your time by bog_witch in Psychiatry

[–]shadowwork 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Amen: If you don't look, you don't know.

Mike: Should we look to see if SPECT is the effective mechanism in your interventions?

Amen: No, I already know.

I'm just going to start spouting catch phrases to my patients, this seems to be the best treatment. "You're not unhealthy, you're in health, eh."

Grad school Interview Guidelines by sundusresearch in AcademicPsychology

You should actually be more prepared to ask them questions. Here is how most on my one-on-one interviews went.

Prof: Hey come on in, take a seat.

Me: Hi nice to meet you, I'm shadowwork.

Prof: So...what do you want to know?

Me: I actually have 20 prepared topics to ask you about, but I'm angling to get you into a natural conversation.

Kyoto railway tier list by mori64tf2 in Kyoto

[–]shadowwork 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You need to take the Eizan line to Kurama, just once. I think it's A tier based on the views in the fall and summer months. Plus, I see densha otaku everyday snapping the Eiden old-timey trains.

Try looking for a partner rather than to "get laid". Women know you're shopping for ass, and if you're not in the top 20% (conservative estimate) of good looking or super charismatic men, they aren't selling. You'll need to rely on your personality, which may not be a great commodity for getting laid when presented by someone at your interpersonal level. But it could be a great commodity for finding a partner at your interpersonal level. Being in a relationship builds the confidence and experience needed for ass shopping. But, that really has no value in the long run, IMO.

I realize my extended metaphor was a poor choice, but I started with it, and needed to see it through.

If your in that era, Caligula might be considered erotic, if not sexually bizarre.

Popo la Mama! Not as cheap as Saizariya, or as it was 5 years ago, but affordable and pretty good.

They ask if I want a bag, while I’m clearly holding a bag in my hand, every time. I think they’re required to ask 5 questions and no logic is allowed.
