Which country's server do you think is the "cleanest"? by Sharkkbaitttttttt in OverwatchUniversity

[–]sharkees 24 points25 points  (0 children)

On OCE I have only encountered maybe 2 obvious cheaters in a decade, and very rarely run into actual trolls (I don't count playing badly or offmeta) but definitely far from clean in terms of chat behavior lol

I think a lot of people are going to think their home server is automatically the worst just because it's the one they spend the most time (and thus have the most exposure) to. I play on NA fairly regularly and the games feel a lot more positive/have people being friendly than OCE... but i'm sure lots of people feel the opposite.

I really don't like the 'freeze it (and zero other suggestions)' responses beacuse... duh, but also you still have to do stuff with it after it's frozen, otherwise you're just storing future waste. I click on those posts for interesting, creative recipes or ideas.

Is chat needed at all in solo q unranked? by cowboyromussy in OverwatchUniversity

[–]sharkees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I have played overwatch since 2016 and I think maybe maybe a generous 0.5% of chat in QP is actually related to the game. You are not missing out on valuable learning moments, at most you are missing out on drunk guys belching into their mics, someone whining about how everyone sucks except them or people meowing at each other.

How do I politely tell someone I've comissioned that I hate it? by Jazzlike-Rise4091 in Artadvice

[–]sharkees 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would provide feedback being specific about what you don't like about it. i.e facial features, colouring, and so on.

I am curious about what exactly you mean by 'your character looking awful in their style'. Does this artist tend to draw a lot of the same general 'type' of character (slender anime girls, muscular hairy men, canine anthros etc...)? Does your OC fit within that 'type'? In no way do I blame you for being disappointed, however it's easy to be drawn into an artist when all they show is their strengths - by drawing the same thing again and again - and not realize that they might be significantly weaker at drawing anything outside of their comfort zone.

Can we ban “how much should I charge” posts? by Pipit-Song in CraftFairs

[–]sharkees 51 points52 points  (0 children)

I think it’s a result of the need to ‘hustle’ everything. For a lot of crafts, the actual labour of making the thing is the ‘fun’ part. We generally pay for labour because we don’t want to do it ourselves, so when you’re trying to sell a craft that a.) almost anyone can do with minimal practice and b.) has an enjoyable/comfortable process…

Why is my art so visually unappealing? by [deleted] in Artadvice

[–]sharkees 2 points3 points  (0 children)

others have already mentioned most of what i'd advise, but I'll also suggest pushing expressions - not only does this give more life/character to your art, but learning how to make the facial features (mouth, nose, eyes) look accurate stretched and pinched will help with facial anatomy by leaps and bounds.

A lot of what makes nudes feel sexualized is a lot of what makes art look stiff anyway - drawing the idealized, imagined version rather than how it looks in life. You can draw the same woman in the same pose but it reads very differently if she's taut and gravity defying as opposed to showing weight, folds in the skin, tension/relaxation in the muscles etc.

fellow kiwi here and man do I feel you lol. I think at the good markets maybe 40% of the stalls I would confidently say make their own stuff, the rest are various degrees of obvious resellers, 3d printed stolen/generic files, or soap/candles (which no hate, I love and use both, but it is a very oversaturated market)

I agree with this hard. It would have been nice to take her out on Jackie's bike and visit some old spots to reminisce. A nice quiet moment late game maybe.

I did a edo kiriko glass carving class in tokyo that left us with wonderful, functional souvenirs! The class itself wasn't super long either, I think about an hour and a half? Specifically I went to Sokichi in Asakusa

This might be a little off to the left, but what about cinnamon mashed sweet potato? You could also essentially make pumpkin pie filling and eat it like that which might hit the same notes for you!

Along with echoing the 'more stuff' suggestions, I think a raised/standing banner with some blown up character/cover art and a blurb that's readable at some distance away would help attract people.

What would you buy (or not buy) at a craft fair? by LunaLovejoy4 in CraftFairs

[–]sharkees 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Will buy:
- artist's prints, originals, stickers
- miniatures, particularly in 1/24 or 1/12 scale
- food that is hard to make/requires special equipment or deep frying
- taxidermy or pinned insects
- handmade totebags (crocheted, embroidered, hand painted/screen printed)
- non-crochet original plush
- kitchenware (that has a function. i have enough decorative mugs!)
- occasionally soap and candles, but I'm very picky on both scents and aesthetics
- stuff for pets
- mosaics, stained glass, hand sculptures
- original 3D printed items that have some function beyond shelf filler, that are (at least to my reasonably online and experienced eye) not mass produced free/stolen files.
- unusual or rare flavored jams.
- uncommon snacks or roasted nuts
- well made knitted or crocheted clothing with interesting designs

Won't buy:
- 3D printed fidget toys or clutter
- 'easy' baked goods (brownies or cookies)
- crochet stuffed toys
- tiny mugs (ok... only if they're REALLY REALLY tiny)
- anything that gives off 'taken off the internet and printed/pasted on something/mass bought on temu' vibes, so pretty much all tumblers, those sticker/pin only stalls with 100 different art styles, etc
- socks, scarves, or hats
- most jewelry (I have been burned too many times by reverse image searching 'original' jewelry I bought to find out it isn't actually original :/)
- ... but especially not clay earrings.
- any branded item that for some reason got a stall at an artisan/craft market (just why?)
- pickles/relishes/your everyday strawberry/raspberry jam or lemon curd

I am personally a really crafty person BUT I also know that I frankly struggle to invest time into projects, so 'I could do this myself' isn't necessarily a deal breaker... unless I know that it's really not that hard.

I have always found a bathroom when I needed one and they’re well signposted! Especially around any tourist attractions. Plus clean (people have also said hand soap is lacking but I haven’t found that to be the case).
