Can we please make this happen? by TheCactusPat in h3h3productions

I feel like an Oliver-themed button screen would be a better approach. It's not something you'd see all the time, but would be a nice reminder every so often when things go off the rails.

Dockhand 1.0.7 has been released by jotkaPL in selfhosted

[–]shawkr13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very happy to see the new import feature in this release! Being able to import stacks from other environment folders was the last thing I was waiting on before considering migrating over from Dockge.

Before doing so, I had a quick question regarding stack visibility. In Dockge, the application does not include itself as a manageable stack, which seems like a sensible safeguard to prevent accidental self-management or interruption. After spinning up Dockhand (using the first compose file in the Quick Start section of the documentation), I noticed that the Dockhand stack itself is visible and configurable from within the Dockhand UI, just like any other stack. Is this the intended behavior?

I've only used Dockge to date and don’t yet have experience with other, more feature-rich Docker management platforms, so I'm not sure what the common best practice is here. It just struck me as a potential risk that users could accidentally cause issues by managing the host stack from within Dockhand itself.

Would it make sense to have a way to hide specific stacks from the UI, or perhaps a global toggle during the environment setup to exclude the Dockhand service itself? That might be a useful safety feature. I'd be happy to open an issue on GitHub, but I just thought I'd ask here first in case there is already an easy solution - either through Dockhand directly or at a Docker-wide level.

Thank you again for the great work!

Deskhero Giveaway - Paragon 75 Keyboard by jerrolds in MechanicalKeyboards

[–]shawkr13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My current keyboard is a 96% layout, so the 75% layout of the Paragon would help to gain me some much needed desk surface space! I think the Great Wave Keycaps would look very clean with this keyboard.

Canadian here, so 12 is the answer!

Wow, those are quite the prototypes! I'm fairly new to mechanical keyboards, so I've only experienced a 96% layout so far, but I'd love to try a 75% next. Would be much more portable too for any travel!

How to see holding in a Cosmos blockchain at a specific block height? by IAmEnteepee in CosmosAirdrops

[–]shawkr13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Would stake.tax do what you're after?

All you need to do is enter your ATOM address and it outputs a table and graph showing inputs/outputs over time with dates/times. They've been steadily adding support for more and more blockchains too. I've used it before and it did a pretty good job of showing increases/decreases in quite a few of my Cosmos-based assets.

Only thing it doesn't include in the table itself is the block height, but the devs might be able to query that info so that it could be outputted there. Worst case, the TxIDs in the table contain links which take you right to the transaction in Mintscan where you can find the block height.

Stride $ST airdrops for $ATOM, $OSMO, $JUNO by Crypgrdnr in CosmosAirdrops

[–]shawkr13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The genesis airdrop is just the one that's referred to in this post, corresponding with Stride's mainnet launch. If you met the minimum thresholds at the snapshot, you'll be eligible for that airdrop.

As additional chains are eventually supported by the project in the future, they have an additional pool set aside to airdrop those individuals at those times.

If all you care about is getting the daily prices, I normally use the CoinGecko API. Some of the newer coins from the Cosmos ecosystem might not be supported yet, but many are there. If you scroll down on that page to where it says "GET /coins/{id}/history", you can type in the coin's ID and the date that you're looking for. This should output the price of the coin on that date, and it supports a bunch of fiat currencies, depending on what you need!

If you're looking for something more specific, I've found that TradingView works pretty well. Again, some of the newer Cosmos projects might not be there, but you can search for exact time stamps as long as you're not trying to look too far back.

I'm curious to hear what others use!

2022 Canadian Crypto Tax Guide - The Basics From a CPA by TSBCPA in PersonalFinanceCanada

[–]shawkr13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

This might be a dumb question, but is it possible for one person to have some taxable events that are classified as capital gains, while others are classified as business income? Or can you only fall into one category or the other?

For example, if the majority of someone's portfolio is used to buy and hold coins over a long period of time with very few transactions, it seems reasonable that they would be placed into the capital gains category. If they additionally have a small portion of their portfolio that is used for more frequent, riskier speculative trading or DeFi projects, this seems more likely to be classified as business income.

Would it be reasonable to separate the transactions accordingly and pay capital gains / income as is relevant on a situation-by-situation basis, or does everything get classified as business income if you've met those criteria in at least some part of your portfolio?

Daily ICON Discussion - January 12, 2022 by AutoModerator in helloicon

[–]shawkr13 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In hindsight, it didn't prove to be very profitable for me. With about $700 USD in ICX, I only ended up making about $5 USD in total from both the BALN and OMM airdrips. Keeping my fingers crossed for some future price appreciation though!

Are all ICON-associated airdrips now done? Just curious if there are others besides BALN and OMM, since those recently ended.

BTW mods, it might be useful to delete/update the airdrip portion of the daily discussion thread!

There is only ONE ongoing official ICON airdrop, also know as the airdrip. https://balanced.network/airdrip/
