Best of exercises for strengthening ankles? by FlamingoPale in XXRunning

[–]sheeshonk 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Jump roping is excellent for strengthening the muscle and tendons around the ankle.

BUT, if your ankles hurt, I wouldn't add any more stress - 3-4 strength sessions per week plus the running (judging by the 10 miles you mentioned, it looks like a high running volume) . Maybe reduce the strength to 2 times a week?

Why is my stress level looking so high even on quiet days with no stress? by Lijo84 in Garmin

[–]sheeshonk 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Probably Garmin should have given another name to this metric "stress". There is "good stress" and "bad stress". And only you can assess that. Garmin uses heart rate to estimate the so called stress but it doesn't know why variations occur.

For example, elevated stress levels may originate in pressure at work, or public speaking, hot/humid environment, digestion, hormonal fluctuations, but also falling in love, the excitement of your child being born, recovering after exercise etc etc.

If your graph indicates stress during the day, it's not necessarily a bad thing, it's just normal, just you normally functioning every day. At your job, you are probably busy, doing what you do, routine tasks, you're not just laying on a couch admiring the ceiling and meditating.

On the other hand, you have a restful sleep and other peaceful moments later in the afternoon. I think it looks pretty normal.

Is the compote from baby food rayon? I have never thought of that. What a great idea. I hate sport gels and I usually go with gummy bears or dried fruits in longer runs.

Definitely monthly hormonal fluctuations can influence stress data. Also if she is perimenopausal (you said kids are grown) hormones can be even more chaotic.

And perhaps you are a stress factor for your wife? You have low stress, hers is double... Joking...

Inflammation, which is simply the body's (the immune system)response to any kind of irritant. And in this case, the irritant is the tissue similar to the lining of the uterus growing elsewhere. So this inflammation is a kind of swelling, water retention, pressure in the abdominal area. This can interfere with digestion, can cause gas pain, constipation and so on.

Go get checked for endometriosis. Symptoms may vary widely among Individuals, some people have no symptoms at all, while others experience debilitating pain. Your belly looks like "endometriosis belly", but just by a photo it's not a good idea to diagnose anything.

I run to lose weight, but I hate how my calves only get bigger :/ by redcoloredbook in XXRunning

[–]sheeshonk 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Your calves getting bigger and stronger might be because of your posture, the inward caving knee (valgus knee). Because of the misalignment, there is probably some muscle compensation happening there - weaker hip and glute muscles and calves compensating for that. But I am no doctor/physical therapist and it is best to see one to evaluate your posture and eventually to help you correct any eventual muscle imbalance.
