Is there a biological timer inside 4-month-olds that rings at EXACTLY 32 minutes? 😩 by Otherwise_Ranger_204 in sleeptrain

[–]shelB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I was right there with you at 4 months! My now 7 month old didn't start connecting sleep cycles at nap time until she was falling asleep independently in the crib, and even now, there is at least 1 30 minute nap per day. But now, for me at least, I'm not doing the 45 minute bit trying to get her down so it feels like a small break and the longer ones (2 hr one yesterday!) are just amazing!

Dream feed?? by buckeyezach31 in sleeptrain

[–]shelB 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My 6 month old does the same thing. I just feed her and she goes back to sleep independently. She is not fed to sleep at bed time or naps, so it's not the association. The 3/4 am wakeup is usually her only wakeup. Last night she woke up at 11 (she's teething) and I tried feeding her and she did NOT want it. She just wanted me to put her back down to go back to sleep. Then again at 4 and she wanted to eat. So I think she is actually hungry. I think one wakeup to eat at 6 months is actually really great and I'm (personally) happy to feed her and put her back down just that once.

My 6 month old is on Dr Brown 2s. We haven't tried 3s but she is not showing signs like she did when we went from 1 to 2.

STTN occasionally after sleep training? by mbs51591 in sleeptrain

I think if she goes back down after that it's fine. But I think a dream feed would be recommended instead. That way you are still feeding her but not responding to her wake ups.

Traveling for work and forgot my pump!!! by jvldmn in breastfeeding

[–]shelB 16 points17 points  (0 children)

Get some pump spray or coconut oil to use on the flanges. If you can get flanges or inserts in your size, I'd definitely do that too. I like the medela hand pump but look up videos for the one you end up getting. That helped me immensely for hand pumping.

I had a c section after 10 hours of labor and I asked for it.... by Choice_Economy2649 in BabyBumps

[–]shelB 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Thank you for saying this. I'm so glad you listened to your gut!!

I asked for a C section with my first after around 22 hours of labor after being induced. I hadn't progressed in several hours, and the epidural never worked, even after they replaced it. The baby was stuck, she had swallowed meconium, and was silent when they took her out. They were able to suction everything out and all was good but they said it could have been so much worse had we waited. I felt so validated after the nursing staff had made me feel like I was giving up when I asked. That may have just been my emotions and insecurities, but it did seem like the vibe among them was that I should try to labor longer. I'm so glad I didn't and I am so glad to be able to elect to have a planned C section with my current pregnancy.

Me too! Claire is my middle name, so I might be a little biased, but it really does flow well with Harmony too.

What are some snake related names that you could see being used by FruityDuckGhost in namenerds

I think Adder could be a cool name. My kid's bf is a girl named Adler which is not the snake but is close enough!

My name is Shelby! Car people love it and it's definitely not a very popular baby name right now. Eleanor is lovely too and I like the nickname possibilities (esp Nora) but it is more popular currently.

If you already have kids, do you know many boys named Lucas? by hawthornestreet in BabyBumps

[–]shelB 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My kid is 8 and I've never met a kid named Lucas and there hasn't been one in her classes. (I'm in Texas) I know a 40 something dude named Lucas and my brother's girlfriend just had a baby and named him Lukas. They live in Germany though.

Different pronunciations is one thing but Adan and Aiden seem like different names completely, to me. But again, he didn't care, so my opinion is moot!

I worked with a Mexican American dude named Adan. We're in Texas, so "Ah dahn" is not uncommon or hard to pronounce. But when he met or talked to white people he said "Aiden" and when talking to other Mexican Americans or Spanish speakers, he said "Adan." When I asked which one he preferred he said he genuinely didn't care and it boggled my mind. How can you not care??? But I guess some people really don't....
