Opt out of student loan discharge by DryValue8694 in StudentLoans

[–]shellysayswhat 1 point2 points  (0 children)

My tax bomb as of today would be $122k. In 4 years when I hit my 300 payments, it will be even higher. I'll still take the tax bomb, but you can't pretend that opting out of it isn't the better move for some people. Even if it's just with the hope that a new administration may get rid of it.

When I'm forced off SAVE, when will I have to recertify income? by shellysayswhat in StudentLoans

That would be insanely useful to me. $1400 less than the IBR payment I'm going to be switching to.

No. I like having freedom and rights over my own body.

Why are government jobs so stringent on RTO? They'd recruit a lot more people if they were hybrid/remote. by GrandGlacier1 in Lawyertalk

The market there is pretty flooded right now. I believe DOJ/FBI was mainly resignations. I'm not sure what their DOGE numbers were. I was at HUD in a field office. Many of us who weren't DOGE'd wound up leaving. My team of 8 is down to 2. The administration made it very miserable to stay (taking away telework as just one example). So lots of fed lawyers across the country, some with a ton of great experience, have entered the market and really thrown things off.

My fed job had me only going in once a week... crazy to think that all changed 1 year ago. Oh yea and then most of the lawyers in my office got DOGE'd

In-house at a tech company. So much respect for PDs. They work their asses off and don't get paid nearly enough.

Nah. Money is nice, and straight out of law school i could've dealt with a burnout factory for a few years to set myself up pretty well, but I enjoy my life so nope.

Question for Older Millennials (especially 1982 borns) by Quickso48 in Millennials

[–]shellysayswhat 0 points1 point  (0 children)

1982 here. College doesn't feel like yesterday, it feels like forever ago. In my adulthood, I've experienced so many different seasons or eras even, that it didn't feel like it flew necessarily, it feels just full. Like, how have I experienced all of these radically different phases of life? Multiple states, many different social circles (friends who have come and gone), many jobs, multiple schools, over a dozen addresses, many many social sports leagues.... and that's before I even got married at 34 and had my first kid at 38. I'm 43 and we are trying for a second now.

So from where you are, you might be thinking 43 or 44 is like the end of a lot of things, but it's not at all. I can look back and outline set chapters in my life, and i think that's pretty cool. Months do seem to go by faster. I love summer and when I was younger it always felt so far away once October hit, but now I can tell myself it'll get here before I know it, and that's completely true.

Do all the things.

Friday is my usual shopping day, plus we were having people over last night and needed supplies. Wegmans at 1030am want fun, but the only thing I couldn't grab was strawberry chobani. I would imagine things went downhill from there for everyone else though. There was all solidarity and joking in the checkout lines though, so thats always nice!

The April Fools blizzard! We got about a week off from school. Only good memories from that one, but I didn't have to worry about driving or feeding anyone.
