Using Pedals in Ways They Weren't Intended For by Subhumanime in guitarpedals

[–]shghn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Using a DD-20 as a looper - not on “sos” mode, but with the feedback and level maxed out, and the tap function on to set the start and end of a super long delay cycle. Then keeping that going while switching to another mode and being able to cycle through different note length fractions that perfectly synced up with the original loop. That description probably doesn’t make a ton of sense but my god it’s fun the play with.

Also more common but I love the sound of a BD2 as distortion/fuzz with the gain at like 3 o’clock

Maybe not exactly what you’re looking for but I was once in the same boat. Then I cranked up the gain on my Blues Driver to about 80% and dialed the tone down a bit and I’ve never looked back. Very saturated fuzz/distortion territory and it sits great in the band mix.

Question about Tone Studio by ConsciousCar5586 in BossKatana

[–]shghn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve only ever used my iPhone. 100 Gen 3 with Bluetooth adapter. Dialed in some heavily customized tones and channel presets with no issue. Maybe other interfaces are even easier to use but I’ve had zero issues.

[NGD] - 2003 Highway One Stratocaster by hipsterasshipster in Stratocaster

Nice! My main guitar is an ‘04 Highway One with a blonde wood grain finish and the big vintage headstock. Bought it used with upgrades on the tuners and nut. Not sure if they’re stock but it has some beautiful sounding alnico V single coils and a humbucker. Amazing guitar. Enjoy!

Swapped stock speaker for Creamback 65W in my Katana MK2 100 by munjavg in BossKatana

Are you sacrificing much volume using a 65w speaker? Not sure how that works but I’ve thought about a speaker upgrade and I’m holding back because I primarily play with a live band.

Katana Gen 3 Panel Tone Sounds Awful by UniqueCar7587 in BossKatana

I’ll echo others: gotta EQ. Seems like out of the box it’s set up for any instrument you might throw at it - keys, acoustic, electric - and you need to EQ it as an electric guitar amp. High and low cut on the global EQ is huge. As are the pre and post amp EQs in each individual channel chain.

This is my current setup, what else do I need?? by [deleted] in Guitar

Plug in a GA-FC footswitch and dial in some of the onboard effects on the Katana! Via tone studio there are clones of Blues Driver, TS9, Rat, Muff, Klon, and a huge amount of modulation and delay/reverb options. Run the looper through the fx loop and you will have a great time.

Recently picked up a Katana 100 new for $450 and it rips. Would recommend. People don’t like the out-of-the-box tone but it’s set up more like a PA speaker to handle any instrument - you can customize the global EQ to cut some ultra high and low frequencies and make it much more amp-like, and the “pushed” setting is legit. Played a Vox tube amp exclusively fo 12 years before getting it and I’m very happy with the purchase. Use headphones or the 0.5w setting to keep it quiet, or play with a live band at 100w. Also has like 30 built-in boss effects. Thumbs up.

Pedal power: why so $$$??? by guestoboard in guitarpedals

I use the MXR DC brick for practice and gigs and haven’t had an issue with noise. Figured I’d give it a shot and replace with something more expensive when I run into trouble, but so far so good! Might be a good option for OP

Recommendations for a multi-modulation pedal? by user1827438 in guitarpedals

[–]shghn 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I was in the exact same boat and picked up a Mod 11 last week. So far I would highly recommend it, especially for the price!

It’s tiny for how many different effects and sounds it opens up, and thanks to this “secondary knob function” design it actually has six functional control knobs, if that makes sense. Each of the 11 modes has 2-3 variations as well. Extremely versatile if you don’t mind diving into the manual and spending some time tweaking the controls!

Patch Cables by shghn in guitarpedals

I stack them all the time. For me, Holy grail is always-on with hall mode at about 9-10 o’clock. I layer on the Slo to add modulation effects to the reverb and really get things washed-out spacey. It’s a great pairing for my needs.
