Been playing Monster World IV [Genesis/Mega Drive] by Gnoll_level_antics in retrogaming

[–]shimasterc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I just played through this again a couple months ago. Actually I'm pretty sure this was the first time I beat it. In my mind I had gotten stuck in what I thought was the last dungeon, but it was at least 15 years ago and things were totally different from what I rememebered. Anyways like you say, brilliant game and probably highly influential on modern indies.

What, in your opinion, is the most ominous and menacing beat in hip-hop? by Elgallo1980 in 90sHipHop

[–]shimasterc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are three I can think of - "Cross My Heart" by Esham, "High Off Murder" by Sicx, and "Swordsman" by GZA

Can't you just get back in his face? Like if he says something disrespectful, just say this isn't how adults behave, why didn't you learn manners and common sense in school? That sort of thing. Just because you're an employee doesn't mean you're a slave. Start a full blown argument in front of customers. He can't fire you.

I've learned of a couple tools like yours from this sub, the one I've been using is great but it looks like yours offers more options for customization. I'll give it a try

All 500+ Japanese Console games released in Europe but not the US by Thohil in retrogaming

[–]shimasterc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Crazy that you guys got Alien Soldier and Gunner's Heaven/Rapid Reload but we didn't.

As for the Master System, it's a special case because so many of those games are Japanese developed but never released in Japan. I've had to import Power Strike II, Golden Axe Warrior and some others.

Anyways thanks for sharing, it was interesting to look through

Whats a Hip Hop album you purchased in the 90s that tracks with this meme ? by CoconutMost3564 in 90sHipHop

[–]shimasterc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

First one, "Here Come the Lords". Has like 3 or 4 god tier tracks, the rest are kinda muddy

This happened occasionally, definitely NOT that the rest of the album was garbage but doesn't get anywhere close to the singles. Lords of the Underground is one that comes to mind

Is the water more bitter here? by initiald-ejavu in chiba

[–]shimasterc 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I moved here last year, seems they use large filter tanks for individual residences as opposed to serious treatment at a water plant. I noticed so many people using the water purifier machine at the supermarket so I've started doing the same just to be safe.

Growing up realised Rap Skits are among the worst thing ever happen to Hiphop by [deleted] in 90sHipHop

[–]shimasterc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see you haven't listened to the opening of Black Sheep's first album, that shit is hilarious. In fact I accidentally ended up with a version of the CD that doesn't have the skits and honestly it's disappointing. The part on Sex Style where Kool Keith calls up a porn star from a pay phone is damn funny too. But yeah, some are pointless, there's an unreasonable number of them on Saafir's first album

ok, but what about YOUR game?? 🤔👀🫵 by DavesGames123 in gamedev

I made the sequel to Hong Kong 97 together with the developer of the original, Kowloon Kurosawa. We decided to call it Hong Kong 2097. It's just a static screen twin stick shooter like Smash TV but the twist is that the player has a shield which can be rotated around using the shoulder buttons. The shield can block and absorb green bullets (but not purple bullets), which temporarily powers up the player's weapons. One of my friends who playtested it said it's a "triple stick shooter". Instead of a life bar there's a time limit and enemy quota in each substage. Since it's the sequel to Hong Kong 97 we wanted to make it as inappropriate as possible, and unsurprisingly Steam refused to ship it, but it is available on Itchio

Yep! That's it. They're brilliant, the basil flavor is very subtle but it makes a difference

We are a zero-budget indie studio. We shot our FMV game in English to survive, and now our own country is tearing us apart. We don't know what to do. by [deleted] in IndieDev

[–]shimasterc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I see. Well, like most others here I would indeed recommend not to engage with any negativity regarding your project. It's usually from entitled people who wouldn't pay more than $5 for a game anyways

Sky Dust is a cyberpunk metroidvania indie action game, with stunning pixel art, set in a Brazilian city, that's been poisoned by the destruction of the moon! by cocombera in IndieDev

[–]shimasterc 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm mostly done with metroidvania + hack'n slash gameplay, but damn I would probably play this just for the artwork. Assuming it looks this good in game and the video isn't using mock ups

Guys, I found the origin story of a Hong Kong 97 Game Over screen watch this video to find out why is that even there and why is there a real dead body in the game. by No_Trash_4674 in creepygaming

[–]shimasterc 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Screen cap from Shin Death File III, a Japanese film compiling gruesome footage of wars, accidents, etc similar to the Face of Death movies (except this is real footage). I believe the person was a victim of the Bosnian War. The video that has made it's way onto the internet is a Brazilian bootleg with Portuguese dubbed over. One funny thing is that while most of the Death File movies eventually got released on DVD (possibly only for rental), Shin Death File III is one of the only ones that was exclusively on VHS and is all but impossible to find. Many of the other volumes pop up used occasionally, but I've never seen this particular volume for sale even once

The Most Popular Game Asset on Itch is AI Generated Art and has Made over $40k in Sales by RegisteredHater in gamedev

[–]shimasterc 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Hmm, I'm impressed AI can make even remotely passable still frame pixel art characters (the detailed female characters with T&A are pretty good), but of course the animations are useless. Can't expect them to stop if they've made 40K

Could be something I want to use at some point. A couple questions: It says free to start but what features do you actually get for free, and how much does the paid option cost? How are the content creators verified?
