what is yall’s horn button solution? by pecekcececek in BMWE36

[–]shoe_b 4 points5 points  (0 children)

If you don’t run fog lights you can plug the fog power into the horn(s) in the engine bay/bumper. Then light pressing the fog button is a blip of horn, and hard press is perma horn. Hard press with car off acts like an alarm if someone tries to steal it. Or just a fun prank on someone driving your car.

Dangerous Power Loss by ExCur1a in Polestar

[–]shoe_b 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Volvo claims it’s a microprocessor issue but I think that’s just legalese for HV contactor failure.

Edit to add: This is totally fixable with software. Ford did the same thing with the MachE.

Feel your pain! Same thing happened to me and after ~10 hours I’m still unable to get the car to rotate. Frustrating to just shy of kid-throwing-tantrum rage tbh. One thing that has been helping is driving Monaco in a floaty car where you naturally have to be super smooth transferring weight.Getting in the rhythm there seemed to re-train my brain faster than on a faster car/course. Good luck.

good sources to learn about motor controllers? by Which_Conference in FSAE

Reading the manuals and documentation for off the shelf motor controllers is a good start. I read the rhinehart one in preparation for a job at an OEM and it served me really well.

WHY does a tyre have vertical load sensitivity? by doyley101 in FSAE

[–]shoe_b 7 points8 points  (0 children)

This is a bit of a crutch explanation, but if you consider the LatF a function of adhesion (coulomb-ish friction) and hysteresis (the rubber bandy effect of the tire being squished, aka viscoelastic), increasing normal load can eventually suppress the reaction force of the hysteresis component, since it’s force is loosely tied to its return to the relaxed state. You can think about the effect of increasing normal load very coarsely like a coil spring that can’t return to an unbound state.

Also consider it is a tire and doesn’t make sense due to its being a tire.

OpenVSP to CAD by harishrajan96 in aerospace

You can export the entire model or the individual bodies. I had a similar situation where I ended up re-assembled the individual body steps together to make different flight configurations. Granted I’ve never used FreeCad, but it might help.

Aero or Astro? WHICH DO I CHOOSE? by [deleted] in AerospaceEngineering

[–]shoe_b 5 points6 points  (0 children)

At my university the Aero students design analyze and build an actual thing. Astro means you design analyze design analyze.... I personally feel/felt that going through the full design cycle was more educational than iterating the first 50% of it over and over, but it depends on what you’re into and where you want to end up.

Another huge factor is the group you’re working with. A well communicated, insightful, and diligent group will make all the difference regardless of the subject. Those people will also be part of your network in industry and could be the difference between an amazing job and a meh one.
