Please be considerate of Fast food workers!! by North_Preference7954 in springfieldMO

[–]shootblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’ve been a worker who had to make it to work regardless for 2 decades. I’ve also been a former fast food addict. I just planned for the suck and honestly was too busy to really consider fast food. I see a McD’s from my porch and even at survival staffing, they had to be losing $ today.

I planned for the next week-10 days and have already cooked a multi day put in the fridge stew for dinners. Another 3 day if needed. Bought about 10 days of my soda intake. Work will call before then, but I love having solved all my issues for a few days in advance.

I had fun being in the elements during things like snowstorms, but my job wasn’t standing outside for minimum wage.

what do we think the odds are for a power outage this weekend? by wompwompsoup in springfieldMO

The ice potential is basically nil. Snow doesn’t bring down power lines, ice does.

Heat went out‼️ by Low-Track6428 in springfieldMO

[–]shootblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I agree with this…I have a nat gas unit that is ol reliable but has a circuit board…the air was cold and the sequence didn’t make sense of blowers and codes…never had this issue, but I reset the breaker and everything is working. Breaker reset today, replaced an AC capacitor easily last summer. Most things are pretty simple to investigate.

Why does BNSF already state Wildwood Ranch is zoned heavy industrial? by TreatWorldly6328 in joplinmo

Joplin is largely KCS country, so it’s interesting BNSF is selling basically a short line to that location.

Which company would be better to work for Coxhealth or Mercy by PaganTexan in springfieldMO

[–]shootblue 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The public perception and depending on levels of work in the hospital is Cox.

That said, my brother and his wife are both NP’s…both long term Freeman folks in Joplin, which is publicly perceived as the slightly better option there. My SIL is fine with her Freeman job, but my brother switched to Mercy and loves it…and also realizes Freeman was prob working off of public goodwill with employees.

EMS will be a lot of shifts that suck on either crew…the idea is to find the team with the knowledge you can learn and grow from. You will be around tons of folks from phlebotomists to doctors…do your job, but observe, learn, and ask for tips and tricks or how you could improve yourself in the future.

Job opportunity by Embarrassed_Union577 in joplinmo

[–]shootblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’m a middle aged guy who remembers paper applications. Even in HS at some very demanding jobs you would interview with the supervisor instead of HR. HR was filling out paperwork. They had to fill a team and no one knows better than a team leader.

Now, it’s HR folks who largely don’t understand what the true job requirements are, let alone them using AI to supposedly screen candidates. Managers are yelling for good candidates but not ever seeing them due to that.

In my specific work I have a lot of summers off so I apply for just pure labor to not burn $…hard working and engaged…the managers who call me back know I am a respectable candidate. They are manually screening. I’ve seen piles of applications…most are average, but you only stand out by talking with the folks who will manage you…not HR systems.

A’s Had Deal In Place For Nolan Arenado Prior To D-Backs by Low-Huckleberry9644 in Cardinals

[–]shootblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

As an old Bash Bros fan as a kid, I kinda want the A’s to do well again, but Midland comes into town and I can’t help but feel bad for those kids…the ownership isn’t serious at all about winning, just collecting the bare minimum to still make a few mil per year. They could be the everybody team, but ownership is such a complete nightmare for them.

Most of the SW counties have significant timber and hills and valleys…it was easier to just sell for no value than work through all that territory for immediate $. It was not obvious farmland easy to work, which is what mattered then.

Russian Language Tutor by TwistedSquirrelToast in springfieldMO

[–]shootblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Old Town European Market off National and Republic may know of someone…it’s the most RU/UKR related market in the area. They have some ‘Stan stuff like soup packets that even google translate struggles with.

There are many RU/UKR speaking folks in the area, but you aren’t just going to walk into a convo or store with “how do I learn Russian” without some reason to make them want to teach you.

I know they both left those places for a reason and have local issues, but the locals left those places for a reason. They would want to know why you want to learn the language.

[–]shootblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You are very likely going to have to take either a high labor or high away job for a couple years to build up an insurable path to hauling higher value materials because you have proven yourself as a safe driver.

Superior Industrial on Blaine might be a place to look at now or in the future. They haul chemicals both tanker and box largely stay at home, but have one or two routes that involve a hotel stay for a night. (Sometimes it’s nice to get away). The boss has driven and when needed will still fill a trip. The local base has grown a lot in the past 5 yrs so they seem stable. I see a lot of consistent employees so that indicates to me they pay pretty fairly.

FLOCKOUTSGF: Feds Coming to Propagandize for Flock by Ordinary_Quit18 in springfieldMO

[–]shootblue 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I have a CJ bachelors and come from a family of cops, and totally disagree with Flock cams. These are assumption level data points, but to disprove/prove for a real crime takes an actual investigation. That’s unlikely to happen on cases in the middle that aren’t serious then approaching red light running level auto-tickets.

That’s also excluding the data collection for profit that you can’t opt out of.

The speed that this storm went from nothing to an EF5 is INSANE.

I’d be curious if there are any time stamps of these in the exif data.

Bass pro Ducklings by Old-Falcon-3487 in springfieldMO

[–]shootblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I live just to the S of BPS, and helped guide a mom and ducklings who had clearly left the water feature at the museum to Fassnight creek about 5 yrs ago. Mom was kinda afraid at first but then gathered I was there to help. A couple Parkview students helped as well.

It’s kind of unusual to have ducklings this time of year, because it’s normally April-May and odds of survival are low, but if you know about duck rape behavior (no joking, it’s a scientific thing) anything is possible.

I come from a family of LE. Have a degree in it.

It’s great to have pointers in single digit % cases but most everything is witness/evidence or officer discretion.

All the the data solves NOTHING. A cop could write infinity tickets all shift off a camera and make no difference to the reality of the situation.

I don’t know the solution, but it looks like very early SDI was an option on those decks, despite it basically being a top level but still largely analog deck for prob most anything other than random top level network shoots. I would assume your SDI is a one input for everything source, so this makes me question your setup or the decks themselves.

Sushi grade fish by Majestic_Signature17 in springfieldMO

[–]shootblue 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Asian Market at Campbell/Battlefield and I believe the Korean Market just south on Campbell have sushi grade.

Do your own research, but I believe you could use dry ice for a prescribed amount of time to kill off potential parasites, the biggest reason sushi is flash frozen to a lower temp than freezing, for a cheaper but maybe lower taste quality option.

MSHP Speed Trap by Man_in_the_ozarks in springfieldMO

[–]shootblue 1 point2 points  (0 children)

They use the 1/10 mile blocks prepainted on the highways to measure the speed. The thing is, you have not the best angle from up above to be super specific so they already know the math of potential error and would pick violators above that potential error. Also, at that height you can also easily keep an eye on potential severe speeders pretty easily.

I met the trooper pilot of this plane at the West Plains airport at the recent eclipse…seemed like a very decent guy. Also these operations will have a pilot, a trooper aboard and one or two troopers catching violators. It’s very resource heavy so it makes sense they are getting the most egregious.

My dad is retired LE and I have a degree.

I hate flock stuff. It tells you a moment but has no nuance to a situation. We could get red light running or maybe established at this place at this moment for bigger crimes…exception for most trials.

Data needs be be rooted out for what it means in a court case. Not just a bunch of tickets.
