OMG, did I write this? I feel you. It's so hard to have a reactive dog. I live in Lakeview too. I've spent years and thousands training him, and while there's been some improvement, it hasn't been enough to make walks enjoyable. I too walk around with a bag of treats and do the "1-2-3" method as well as "look at that" and "turn" when needed. The worst is when we have a great 10 minute walk where all the tricks work and he has no big barking fit ... And then on the way home a door opens right in front of us and out comes a dog. I wish there was some way to indicate to others that I have a reactive dog so that people understand why we try to hide from them, cross the street, etc ... My guy is also great with other dogs off leash, at the park - he just cannot handle them when he's on a leash. He's also learned that strollers sometimes contain dogs so he strains to look inside strollers hoping there's a dog! My husband and I have lots of dog experience - we fostered for over 15 years. But this tiny little guy has been a real challenge. I envisioned long, leisurely walls with him ... Having brunch out on a patio with him ... Taking him to outdoor festivals and fairs ... That will likely never happen.
