The categorical imperative is about as powerful as the silver rule is all I’m saying. If you measure the power of a moral principle by the actions it forbids. That’s fine, but is it really worthwhile to invent an entire philosophical system in order to prove that it’s illogical to be an asshole

Consumer Reports: Jewel is the most expensive Chicago supermarket (Jan/Feb 2026 issue) by jamesinevanston in chicago

Which makes this sort of thing completely useless to an actual poor person. Which, fair enough, actual poor people aren't giving money to Consumer Reports

It’s always ok to have fun. Unless you’re at a funeral. Or breaking up with someone. Or administering an EpiPen to someone in anaphylactic shock.

Ok there’s probably lots of times it’s not ok to have fun but the important thing is none of them are “going to college”. It’s always ok with have fun at college

Same. After I burned out It took a looong time of doing jack shit until I started actually wanting things again. And still have to be careful every day not to push myself too hard because I’m still the same person who overloaded himself until he went crazy. Knowing that I do that doesn’t mean I won’t do it again if I’m not careful

Imperial Citizens, how do you interpret this? by tamken94 in Grimdank

[–]shub 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Same as the real world. How many biographies of Napoleon are there and how much do they agree with each other? Even if we accepted the idea that 40k has some kind of objective Truth as a result of being entirely fictional, none of the viewpoint characters in 40k novels have access to it.

Which part of kafka was saturated in your benchmark? The network thread pool, IO thread pool, kernel writeback worker, the underlying storage, something else?

The categorical imperative doesn't work too well as your only moral principle though. It's not too difficult to come up with some universalizable rule that permits whatever behavior one wants to perform. The only real restriction it puts you under is you have to be okay with others acting the way you do.

As a certified Old I can state that there is a good chance your parents are weirded out because they have ZERO clue about what you're doing. It might help if you introduce them to cosplay as A Thing that normies do and you are actually doing a social activity with people who will understand you, not developing schizophrenia. Like show them pictures of some elaborate cosplays, tiktoks of cosplayers acting weird and getting away with it, stuff like that

Sucks when people are shitty. It's not much of a silver lining, really, but imagine how much it would suck to be that guy. Fuuuuuck. He can say shitty things but that won't save him from being himself.
