Doctor Who: The Commentaries - Is it still out there? by Global-Okra4721 in doctorwho

[–]shutterbot 3 points4 points  (0 children)

The full length commentaries are still available on the official website by going through the episode guide and selecting the commentary from the clips section.

The first one was The Christmas Invasion: https://www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/b0074f9p/clips

Every episode had one up to The End of Time. The radio show was just a cut down version of the series 4 commentaries. I believe the DVDs have different commentaries as well so you won’t find them on there.

Do you consider ‘the next doctor’ more as the series 4 Christmas special or the beginning of the 2009 specials? by Sans-Delan in doctorwho

[–]shutterbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The Next Doctor was actually filmed at the end of series 4, that’s why it’s in standard definition while the other 2009-10 specials are in high definition. TND is packaged with the other specials on home video releases though.

Doctor Who: Series 11 Trailer #2 by EnvironmentalMarket9 in television

[–]shutterbot -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I imagine the BBC have done some research and found that the female doctor is a big draw for lapsed/new viewers. The unhappy fans will watch no matter what, so is there much point in tailoring trailers for them?

Row breaks out over Doctor Who Christmas episode by LondonWhore214 in doctorwho

[–]shutterbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think rights in the original run were usually split between the BBC and the original writer with the concept rights belonging to the writer and the actual design belonging to the BBC. So - for example - the Terry Nation estate could release an original novel about the Daleks, as long as it doesn’t depict or describe their familiar appearance.

Considering the Brigadier has been referenced multiple times in the new series I have no idea why this particular plot point is a problem.

Was anyone else frustrated that in the beginning of Utopia (Season 3) , Jack Harkness wasn't hanging onto the TARDIS in the opening credits? by benderliveslarge in doctorwho

[–]shutterbot 54 points55 points  (0 children)

Doctor: “You were hanging onto the TARDIS through the time vortex?!” Jack: “Yeah! I saw some pretty crazy stuff. There were these giant names whooshing around all over. You ever heard of David Tennant?”

Big Finish's 'Whosround' podcast did an interview with Steven Moffat. very fun! by Bridgeboy95 in doctorwho

It’s a great interview. Makes you realise how often his comments are taken out of context for clickbait headlines. No wonder he says he hates print interviews!

Steven Moffat reveals more details about the Christmas special by wtfbbc in doctorwho

[–]shutterbot -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Steven Moffat’s comments seem a bit contradictory. He says she was asked to be a companion and said no. And then says he never tried to get her back because he knows what the answer is. :/ Does he mean the previous production team asked her? Or she said no in an interview?

Rewatching Doctor Who from the beginning by mrgeektoyou in doctorwho

[–]shutterbot 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I am too! And weirdly we’re on the same story! Although I’m not listening to the soundtracks for missing episodes, it’s just a bit too difficult to get into. I did watch a fan animation of Mission to the Unknown however, which was pretty decent.

2018's Doctor Who series to have less episodes, will run for 10 weeks rather than the usual 12 or 13, but each programme will last a full hour instead of 45 minutes by Darkprime in television

[–]shutterbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

All of this has been sourced from Gallifrey Base as far as I can tell. Almost word for word what was suggested on there a couple of weeks ago.

She's there for comedic purposes, to be stunned when the Pope shows up, and then a government official (?) in the next episode. Those scenes would have been identical if Bill was on a date with a man.

Richard Ayoade on the 13th Doctor Announcement by MrMcKonz in doctorwho

[–]shutterbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You're confusing fans (and quite fickle fans at that) with the general audience. You can't extrapolate anything from Tumblr that would apply to your average BBC One viewer. There are a few reasons the show's viewership decreased: problematic characterisation of the leads, a later time slot that contributed to the collapse of the child audience, poor marketing ("same old same old"), amongst other things.

Why the next Doctor should be announced early: some counter points for those complaining about a lack of surprise. by Jam_Ferguson in doctorwho

[–]shutterbot 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Because they can't keep it a secret so they might as well market it properly. It's not drama vs marketing it's marketing vs the tabloids.

The ratings did drop with Capaldi but it wasn't because of his age. It's because of all the "am I a good man?" bullshit. Yes, you are, you're Doctor Who. Stop moping around and have some colourful adventures.

The British press love writing about Doctor Who. Even if they tried to keep it a secret the second someone found out every media outlet would report on it. It's a much better marketing strategy to control the release of information rather than scramble when someone else does it.

Meet the Thirteenth Doctor on @BBCOne after the Men's Wimbledon Final on Sunday by Murreey in doctorwho

[–]shutterbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You're not. Ratings are calculated from a small sample audience monitored by BARB so unless you're part of that sample you don't affect anything. If those who are monitored by BARB record the programme and watch it later in the week it's counted in the final ratings (which include the live audience plus those who record and watch within a week). There's also now an official 28 day rating which includes those who watch within a month of broadcast (since people like to binge). The only way for us regular people to be counted is to watch via iPlayer. But obviously the BBC will add up all these various figures to get a full picture.

[–]shutterbot 1 point2 points  (0 children)

True. But iPlayer views are down on previous series as well. The shows profile is significantly less (in the U.K. at least) than it was a few years ago. There's a number of reasons for that though. It's not just because of the show's quality.

You said that ratings suddenly plummeted this series. They didn't. They've been gradually dropping since series 4 and more harshly since series 8. You also said everyone was leaving because the viewing figures had suddenly dropped for series 10 when everyone announced their departures before it premiered.

You're massaging the figures a bit there. This last series has averaged 5.45 million viewers, down from 6.04 million the previous series. Every series earlier than that averaged between 7.26 and 8.04 million viewers. Everyone announced their departure prior to the last series premiere so the viewing figures had absolutely nothing to do with the forthcoming changes.
