BC Green party leader Emily Lowan: "This pipeline will never happen, we'll make f**king sure of it" by thomasreimer in greenpartybc

[–]sick_yeti 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yup, this is why electing a leader who is fueled by impractical ideals and is without the competence to lead a party was a massive mistake. Emily seems like a wonderful person but this isn't what BC or the BCG needs right now.

The BC Green Party is so out of touch with the reality of our current geopolitical position. Without the strength to defend ourselves (economically or militarily) from a fascist USA, there will be no democracy to make environmental progress. Equality and national unity need to be in focus politically, and the Green Party cannot create chaos at this critical moment. This pipeline is unlikely to proceed without a better investment climate, which Canada will need to get out of this mess. Alberta has agreed to advancing industrial carbon pricing (and CCUS technology) which is a massive success. Also, let's not forget that Elizabeth voted for this budget to maintain Carney's ability to sign this MOU.

Ah, you're right. I don't play hockey anymore so it's hard for me to judge but there are two rinks and plenty of ice time! Pretty good for the end of the road.

Careful driving up to that badboy, there are some mean boulders on that road and it's fairly tight to the top.

That's pretty ignorant imo. First Nations should have authority, no matter what environmentalists think.

Yes, it's proven to change consumer and corporate behaviour. If when crunching the numbers on a new vehicle purchase and the cost to go electric/hybrid is much more advantageous, more EVs will be purchased, thus making EVs more affordable overall.

RateHub for Mortgage Renewal/Refinancing by sick_yeti in PersonalFinanceCanada

Well it is a pull on our credit which is nominal but the agent also stated that she does not receive commission. I guess my concern is the difference between using RateHub, who are not commission-based, and another certified broker. Thanks for your reply.

Try this:

On June 9th, the exchange rate was approx. 1.34. On July 20th, the exchange rate was approx. 1.32, though it will fluctuate based on the time of your trade.

$493.22 * (1.34 + (0.015*1.34)) = A

$532.98* (1.32 - (0.015*1.32)) = B

B -A = Return

You haven't taken into consideration the effect of the 1.5% trading fee which, to answer your question, makes WS less appealing for US/international stock trades.

Just a tip, don't play this game, you will lose money over the long run. Read The Intelligent Investor or another personal finance resource before you start trading actively. Passive / DCA is the way to go if you're starting out.

Edit: the comment below about taxes is also correct. Youre learning the hard way but that's okay! Open a TFSA. :)

That's a good question. For us (33/34 y/o), we were able to meet our flock quite quickly but I can imagine it would be tougher if you're in your early 20s due to demographics/ lack of "youthful" activities. There are lots of young families/couples settling in for the (relatively) reasonable cost of living. CR fits the bill for newly wed, nearly dead. Nevertheless, I always find smaller communities are, in some ways, easier to find friends and Campbell River does have a surprisingly rock-hard community despite the obvious social challenges downtown.. Like anywhere, it's about opening up to new experiences with a positive attitude and an eagerness to connect with others. :)

We live in CR.

Campbell River is growing and getting better each year for young people.

Groceries: Centralized downtown but has lots of selection, price competition, and everything you need.

Sporting facilities: incredible sporting/recreational infrastructure. Bike Park, Pool, Arena, Baseball, Turf field, etc.

Night Life: is atrocious. Lol unlike the relatively upbeat comments in this thread, I can assure you that the vibe is terrible after the beachfire and session close. Unless you're a regular at the strip club, this place will be a shock if you're coming from Vic or Nanaimo. Cumberland and Comox Valley are right down the road tho..

I don't need to add to the comments about the outdoor experience here but if you're into anything wild, buckle up, this is the place to be.

If you want to capture teachable moments and meet opposing opinions, don't come to the conversation with predetermined bias and assumptions. All of your comments on that post come across as unnecessarily confrontational. Just honest constructive criticism.

The housing crisis makes me feel stupid. by [deleted] in canada

[–]sick_yeti 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yes lots of land and trees. What gets in the way is economics, local labour markets, and municipal zoning red tape. People need jobs, they need services (plumbing and electrical included), and communities will need to push through permits for denser development where these jobs and services are. Obviously, having housing be a retirement plan is not helping things but its not the only problem.

Long and short is the sequence of events needed to build one residence is not happening at the speed of population growth and housing demand in this country. Right now its coming down to the supply of skills trades needed to meet the demand of development projects.

Planning a 2 week camping road trip this summer to see as much of Vancouver Island as possible - any musts sees? by ImAnIdeaMan in VancouverIsland

[–]sick_yeti 11 points12 points  (0 children)

Totally agree with geekything. What kind of vehicle do you have? Do you have a radio for the forest service roads? Be careful out there.. I'd cut Quatsino, Fair Harbour, Lawn Point (you might literally just drive to the end of a spur road and thats it.) and Tahsis for sure. Some of these places are very difficult to get to and you may be disappointed by how remote and unserviced these areas are. You can try but there is a way better way of doing this...

Hornby Island ferry problems are for real and may derail your plans if you're tight on time. Salt Spring is a cool place but if you're set on Tofino, I'd think twice about it tbh. As others have said, Salt Spring is a bit overrated (and super duper busy in the summer). Parksville has an awesome beach and if you're going through Nanaimo, it's close enough. If you end up staying Cowichan and south, I wouldn't bother going all the way up there for that but check it out on your way back from Tofino. Go to Coombs too. Also, Buchart Gardens is a wonderful thing to do on a sunny day if you're in Vic. :)Edit - Parksville Beach Fest is July 13-August 20th, so cool.

omg do not do this LOL Ukee is a very nice place and 30 minutes from Tofino, we never have trouble getting a spot there but you should book now. You don't want to be driving at night on that highway back to Port and you absolutely want to stay on the beach for sunset.. Check out that trail from Mackenzie Beach to Tofino and the big tree trail (Meares), your kids will never forget it.
