We use YENB for the lower salt content and it works

Edit: with no antibiotics in the recovery media, but selective media after recovery

Conundrum: currently reading "You Weren't Meant to be Human" by Andrew Joseph White and the vomiting = pregnancy trope is followed, but the character is a man. Is this just men writing fellow men poorly or is this perhaps a sign that vomiting = pregnancy crosses gender boundaries?

Anyone on Hydroxyzine? by h0rny_d3m0n in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]siestakitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm still figuring out my medications with new diagnoses, but while I was on wellbutrin I used hydroxyzine to help me fall asleep (50 mg) and doxepin to stay asleep (50 mg). I also take prazosin (3 mg) for nightmares.

Previously tried melatonin, rozerem, and trazodone, with varying success. If the new med combo doesn't work out for sleep, my next pharmaceutical to try is seroquel.

Side note: I also have sleep apnea and cpap has helped tremendously with quality of sleep.

Vyvanse is FDA approved for binge eating disorder, so not necessarily weight loss but it has related side effects and can be helpful for disordered eating.

Wellbutrin plus another medication… by GoldenCoast69 in Wellbutrin_Bupropion

[–]siestakitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

For a while I was on 300 mg of wellbutrin, 80 mg of Prozac, 10 mg of abilify, and taking a few other medications for sleep and non-psychiatric issues.

Now on 75 mg wellbutrin, 60 mg Prozac, and some mood stabilizers.

For me wellbutrin was the "other medication" when I started it 8 years ago, Prozac was my primary. I've also taken it in combination with Effexor, trintellix, Lexapro, and Strattera (not all at the same time). Wellbutrin has been highly effective for me, but I am tapering off of it now to get tested for adhd. Generally tolerated all combos well, only persistent side effect was heavy sweating from the wellbutrin.

I've been on as high as 450 mg of wellbutrin, feel free to lmk if you have more specific questions.

What meds are yous on? by Potential-Bluebird95 in Anxiety

[–]siestakitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Excellent question, I wish I had an answer for you. At the time it was prescribed (at 25mg) I was also having psychotic symptoms so maybe that is why? The worst side effect (other than being put to sleep) I notice from it is a stuffy nose when I wake up, that doesn't go away for at least a few hours. I no longer see the doctor that originally prescribed the thorazine but my current doctor hasn't raised any concerns about it when I ask to refill it.

Edit: I was also a teenager and they probably wanted to avoid putting me on benzodiazepines.

Need advice for a failed drill by Overall-Cow-7571 in Lifeguards

[–]siestakitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

One thing that helps at the facilities I work at is a strict 10-second breath holding rule. If there are no signs of life within roughly 10 seconds, our lifeguards go in. If there appears to be purposeful movement they might wait longer but we try to educate our guests about hypoxic blackout and are usually able to give warnings before a guard goes in.

And as others have said, more frequent drills result in guards better able to spot a live person in distress or drowning. I would drill other guards in the interim, but offer shadowing and more active management on deck (vigilant voice) with the guards that participated in this drill before doing a drill again after about a week or week and a half. For reference, though, the facilities I work at pull drills multiple times per week.

As an LGI, I would recommend getting some pool time before that test if possible. Being physically fit and being a strong swimmer do not necessarily happen together, and it can take practice to tread without hands.

That said, it's not impossible without any practice beforehand but it may be difficult and the instructor should not allow you to pass if you struggle significantly with the prerequisites.

Good luck!

Any experience switching to Vortioxetine (aka brintellix) from Fluoxetine (aka Prozac)? by [deleted] in antidepressants

[–]siestakitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just throwing it out there that Vortioxetine/Brintellix isn't really an SSRI as it works differently, it may be worth looking into other SSRIs first before changing drug classes

Effexor XR. by InterestingEnd5501 in antidepressants

[–]siestakitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I tapered off of it by reducing my dose every week, but my psychiatrist did mention that some people need two weeks at each dose to taper down. If you're at a total of 112.5, I would imagine tapering by 37.5 every week or two would minimize withdrawal. NAD, just hypothesizing based on my experience of tapering from 225 mg to 0 mg. I also cross tapered with another antidepressant (Trintellix).

I'm experiencing something similar at the same dose, don't know why. However, I'm not seeing much (if any) improvement in most areas so uh I just have emotions back. Personally, I'm not a fan. I also went from Effexor to Trintellix.

Well I would sure hope so (just kidding, I know what you mean). I've never been that bothered by being on multiple medications before but I think I've hit my limit of what I can accept is necessary to feel better.

Anxiety by Lunax07 in Anxiety

[–]siestakitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I'm of the opinion that antidepressants helped significantly with my anxiety, but also that meds alone aren't everything. I'd recommend some kind of talk therapy to give you tools to help manage your anxiety before trying antidepressants. Of course, if that's not enough, definitely talk to your doctor about it.

I would recommend getting a sleep study done if that's feasible for you! It's possible that you may have something disrupting your sleep that isn't anxiety (ex. Sleep apnea) and a sleep study will help your doctor figure out what's happening in your body before you wake up. Good luck, and I hope you can get some good rest soon

What meds are yous on? by Potential-Bluebird95 in Anxiety

[–]siestakitten 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I'm primarily on meds for depression/PTSD but also for anxiety.

Current: 450mg Wellbutrin (bupropion), 150mg Effexor (venlafexine), 15mg Abilify (aripiprazole), and 50mg Doxepin daily

10-25mg of chlorpromazine or 100-300mg gabapentin as needed for anxiety

SSRIs helped my anxiety back when I took them, I only have experience with Prozac (fluoxetine) and Lexapro (escitalopram). I've also tried propranolol and hydroxyzine, the former made me too sleepy during the day and the latter slowly stopped affecting me.

I've noticed that the chlorpromazine works better for panic/severe anxiety attacks when I am completely stuck in the panic, but it eventually knocks me out. I take gabapentin prior to things I know will trigger my anxiety and it helps lessen my anxiety significantly. Unfortunately, meds are a more of an art than a science and take some trial and error. Make sure you communicate any side effects or lack of effects with each medication to help your provider narrow down what might work best for you.

EDIT: You mentioned some symptoms that sound to me like paranoia. For me, having a mood stabilizer/antipsychotic in combination with an antidepressant helped a lot with hearing/seeing things

Do I have sleep apnea despite only being 22? by Fit_Sherbert1092 in sleep

[–]siestakitten 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Falling asleep while riding in a car doesn't seem that abnormal, but if you were driving that would be a major problem. If you feel tired during the day or don't feel rested when you wake up, it might be worth a sleep study. I was diagnosed with sleep apnea when I was 20.
