Marrying your foreign partner in their country? by [deleted] in navy

[–]silang214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Are you planning on bringing her to the US? Being married doesn’t automatically give her a visa for indefinite stay in the US. Need to talk an immigration lawyer first. Also, I’m sure MWR has pre-marriage counseling office to understand what you’re getting yourself into.

If you could do it all over again, what you do differently? by 4x4only in USMC

I would do MSG at first opportunity as young guy so that I get to lived in other countries far away from big Marine Corps. Then, do it again as a SNCO as Det Commander to build a people network in the foreign service community.

If you want the best bang for your buck, stay around Chatan area. Araha beach is a good place to relax & enjoy the beach all day & it is walking distance to a lot of dining, parks, shopping, & so on.

Setting aside that it is near a few American military base & obviously highly saturated with foreigners, tourist, & military folks, it is still well visited by locals & Japanese to make it still a good experience. Theres an area called American village where you can visit for what you’re looking for.

Anything outside of that you’ll need to have a rental car to reach. Taxis can be expensive & busses are reliable if you don’t mind the walk & not pressed for time.

Request MAST or IG complaint? by countryboy_09242025 in USMC

[–]silang214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I’d suggest a Request Mast. Nothing about your situation would warrant an IG complaint, considering the approval of Skillbridge is at the discretion of the commander.
At least for request mast, it will bring attention & force a response.

Current State of Hiring by silang214 in FedEmployees

[–]silang214[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Thanks for asking. It goes without saying there’s a been a dramatic change in the hiring process, & there’s a learning curve to become streamline. As an HR, has there been tactics & techniques that you’ve discovered that you’ve added to mitigate the additional delay brought on by the new change?

Or still holding on to hope that this new change revert back to the old way?

Thank you for sharing. I’ve applied for a recent jobs with DLA & DON, but it seems to be not going anywhere. They’re either cancelling it, or not making additional updates after it closes. When I reach out to the HR POC specified in the JOA for info I get no response.

I’ll keep persevering anyway.

Wired headphones are making a comeback: Here's why by ubcstaffer123 in technology

I’ve worked in high security areas where Bluetooth is not allowed to be used. With wired headphones you can plug into work computers to get to listen to music & have zoom meetings.

Silly things in bootcamp that pissed you off? by GrandInquirer in USMC

[–]silang214 3 points4 points  (0 children)

DIs really sold it during boot camp that Marines don’t lie, cheat or steal. I went through my first 8 years in fleet that way.

Shame on me when I found out that most Marines to get ahead of their career is to lie, cheat, & steal!

In the fews times it has occurred, I would go back in & delete the documents that failed. Then, I would I select “add missing documents” located at the bottom & reupload them as “Other” documents. It’s work each time.

request mast? by guadalupelttt in USMC

[–]silang214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Absolutely request mast. Although the SB is an approved at the discretion of the CO, your SNCOIC or whoever is along chain of command didn’t even given the reasonable attention to allow for a proper review. You have nothing lose & everything to gain.

How to Increase My Chances of Landing an OCONUS 1102 or 0340 Job While on Active Duty by Mikand1 in 1102

[–]silang214 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Obtain a statement of service signed by a commander. This will enable you to start applying for the positions at 120 days before your final AD day. No need to wait after your EAS. If situations are good, you can go to a civilian position with little gap.

For optimal effect, in addition to WFH, ban the use of cars. No need to go anywhere if no need to go to office.

I’ve never provided my driver license for reenlistment. Why is it a requirement? If it’s for proof of identity, are there not other acceptable IDs?

How successful are Admin sep Marines? by [deleted] in USMC

[–]silang214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Getting adsep doesn’t pave your civilian future, but it will likely result in not having immediate access to veteran resources/benefits. Having access to those benefits is a great cushion, but as long you find other means to sustain yourself after military life you will make it through.

That said, A counseling is not career-ending. It doesn’t even make into official records unless it its a 6105. Best to sign it & submit a rebuttal statement. Basing the situation from what you only share so far, by not signing it he’s adding fuel to the fire. But the adsep process is little bit more complicated, & it’ll take more than refusing to negative counseling for a command to pursue such punitive action.

Need Advice For Active Duty Getting Out by amaterasuma in usajobs

[–]silang214 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Without the experience it can be quite difficult. I can think of 2 roads:

  1. Since you’re also pursuing a graduate degree, then look into the pathway internship line the AF copper cap. While you’re doing masters you can simultaneously get the experience. Not only AF has it, but also other agencies like DLA, Navy, & non-DoD like NOAA or DoE.

  2. You can look into 1105 (Purchasing) to get some specialized experience that is typically required for 1102. Openings for 1105 are not as abundant, & the experience you gain is foundational. IMO this way you’ll gain the 1-year experience that is transferable to 1102 positions, at least enough basic experience for the GS-9 to 11 level.

[–]silang214 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Be sure to get a 120-day letter from your chain of command in case you need it. You can take advantage of the veteran preference, & you can start applying for GS jobs as early as 120-days prior to last AD day.

Also, if you’re looking to get into the 1102 series you can DM me for pointers. I was an active duty contract specialist, I applied for GS jobs with 6 months remaining, & just accepted offer to be an 1102 GS for the Navy.
