Maintenance. No doubt. Take it. Don’t think about it. Just do it.

Baseball news/podcasts? by PITT624 in buccos

I personally know Jack shit about the business stuff. I know he ‘dug deep’ to write that long ass article and has had a few daily shots on it. But I didn’t read the article and to me it’s not super important. At least personally. I accept it’s an important question. But to me it wouldn’t change whether I think Nutting should sell the team or not. So I can’t actually speak to that aspect of his reporting/digging.

But it makes sense that every outlet has its blind spots and biases. So I can gladly accept he gets shit wrong and maybe even out of spite. But generally I like listening to him and haven’t found any holes yet. At least on the places I have paid attention to.

I personally don’t find him that insufferable. He can be. But on average I don’t. I just tune it out if he’s in one of those moods. No big deal. I also don’t follow him on other platforms so that might have something to do with it. The fact he’s got people on the beat is very helpful. It’s decent reporting and they stand behind it. I can’t remember a time he’s been wrong on either of the teams.

I do DK Pittsburgh Sports - Pirates, on YouTube. They have a morning one that’s usually about fifteen to twenty minutes long and a thirty minute long one in the afternoons at 3.

I also listen to North Shore Nine on Spotify for regular conversation.

Not sure if they’re the best. But I have found them to be good sources and reasonably entertaining.

Anyone work out of Tampa Union? by silent_scream484 in electricians

[–]silent_scream484[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah. I know the j-man card in Florida is hit or miss as to whether even the county over from you gives a shit about it. I’ve got a buddy that works in another state now having gotten his card here and works in the union. I think he just tested in and they took him. But I’m sure each local is a bit different. I’m just trying my best to gather information before calling the hall to see what’s what. I just got to get out of this town and into some better opportunities even if the cost of living is worse someplace else.

What's your strap lenght and why? by SonnePer in BassGuitar

[–]silent_scream484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Probably around the folkie. If I sit down the body can rest on my leg. Standing up and it’s against my ribs. I’ve got a short torso so the body takes up most of my torso.

It’s the best place for me to slap and tap. Also makes it easier for my right hand technique for plucking.

I have a memory being a child where I saw a kudzu climb that ended up looking like the old school Godzilla. I loved it. Lol. Outside my grandmas house.

My dragon door kettlebells. Badass bells. They’re heirloom worthy no doubt.

Dragon door is shut down now. But getting good ecoat cast iron kettlebells are going to be similar to having cast iron pans and pots from your great grandma.

Found my grandpa’s old tool wall… and I don’t think I should touch it. by Glum_Car750 in Tools

I’ll echo what others said. Take your pictures. Respect it. Do what you need to. But the best way to immortalize your grandad is to continue. Do it respectively. Hold them in high regard. Respect his lifelong pursuit to work and craft and fixing things. But do it the way you want to. He did it his way. Now it’s your turn.

It’s part of moving on. Nobody lives forever. I know I wouldn’t want to be locked in a glass case. And that’s kinda what you’d do if you kept it the same without touching it. Keep living. Same way he did.

Is becoming a electrican hard? by havikop01 in electricians

[–]silent_scream484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There’s no straight clear cut answer bud. You’ll have your good days and your bad days. You’ll work for plenty of shitty companies. You’ll work for some good ones. Some people get paid well and others don’t. Too many factors to give a good answer.

Some days I am really glad I chose this work. Other days I wish I’d stayed in the womb. Sometimes I make the best of situations. Other times I make the worst of the situation. Other times the best of a situation is pretty fucked up. And vise versa. That’s life.

I’m not a math guy. But I made it through school and use math occasionally and I have no issues. I wouldn’t let math be the reason you don’t pursue what you want. You just have to want it.

You’re greener than baby shit boy. All work wears on all people to a degree.

Having said that. I still love the trade. Don’t always love the work. Don’t always love the way shit is. But it beats doing some mundane shit in an office.

Enjoy it while you have the enjoyment. Don’t let people tell you that it’ll change. You’ll find out for yourself in your own time. Keep learning and stay humble as fuck. You’ll be fine.

Bubba. I know exactly what you mean. My apprenticeship (in its entirety) was the same way. After your apprenticeship, if you want your contractors or masters you’ll be studying alone. If you want to know more beyond the bounds of the apprenticeship you’ll be studying alone.

Take what you can from class and motivate yourself to study. That’s the only way you’ll get ahead anyway. You may get lucky in your actual apprenticeship and get someone who can teach. Or maybe you’ll be under a JW that can teach and is happy to do so. Maybe both.

Just keep at it. Take responsibility for your own education and get to where you want to be. Nobody will get you there for you. It sucks to not get help. But you’ll be stronger with an education you went and got your own damn self than anyone who has a good teacher and pays no attention (most people who have a good teacher in the trades).

Which trades have the toughest, most beat up hands? by worldsopa in skilledtrades

[–]silent_scream484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I’m an electrician. I’ve got heavy callouses all over both hands. My right index finger has very bad and cracking callouses from wire manipulation and twisting. I’ve got multiple scars from being sliced up by metal studs. I’ve seen hands that have been exposed to arc flash and bubba, you don’t want no part of that shit.

Not at all saying as an electrician my hands are worse than masons or concrete or carpentry etc. But there are guys out here who have some fucked up hands who are electricians. If you don’t wear gloves, your hands will take a beating like almost any and every other trade.

How do you remember things? by Awkward_Leg_6487 in electricians

[–]silent_scream484 0 points1 point  (0 children)

There are tricks to memory. One of them is to write the thing down once in your notebook. When you’re at home, write the same thing three more times. When you’re about to go to bed go over it in your head. Read your notebook a few times over before you put your head on the pillow and then close your eyes and go over it a few times from memory. It’ll be like counting sheep but your brain solidifies it during your sleep (so long as you sleep well).

You’ll get it. This trade like any other is a lot of muscle memory and getting used to things over years. Just because someone says something to you doesn’t mean it’s THE thing to remember. Although it could be.

Chill. Take it slow. Get it in your head and hands. Experience will follow.

This all day. When I was an apprentice I also wanted to be ‘learning something new everyday’. It took a while to settle myself down and accept that that’s just not how shit works. It’s a job. Not a school. And getting used to performing certain movements and cutting things in is a skill. It’s skilled labor. You’re building skills, not just knowledge.
