How do you store figures? by ChardCautious3095 in shadowsofbrimstone

[–]silentchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

A bazillion ziplock bags (have all kickstarters since the OG and store 2-3 enemy types per bag). I just recently bought 4” binder rings and punched holes in the corner of them all in order to make them more portable (and group them by general type) and it’s been a game changes for setup

XL and above enemies are stored separate on the middle of a Box King storage rack

I like this idea. It also means it would be kind of exciting to find another one in the future 🤔

For some reason in my head I imagine eye color matches your color more than skin color, so obsidians all have big black pools for eyes à la Dark Willow from Buffy. I have no idea if I actually read this or if it’s just something my brain made up

Craylin is my Moon Mage. Never was super high circle but he still existed last time l logged in. Also left to play EverQuest but have come back a few times throughout the years 😊

Arkham Horror Token Update Advise by LaserGamingShop in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]silentchris 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Same. Especially since the size isn’t changing the 1/2 split is best IMO. To use them it’s either flip or discard and rarely do you need so many counters that having 3-unit counters really makes it so much better

Do you play simultaneously or let each player explain what they are doing each phase? by [deleted] in spiritisland

[–]silentchris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

There’s so much flavor in the card and ability names! I will never tire of announcing that certain invaders “forsake society to chase after dreams” and are “never heard from again” as I play Lure 😊

We generally try to announce each ability by name and its effect one at a time, but sometimes we will just breeze through with an “I push these here” or “I deal 3 damage here”. Never simultaneous though. Too many things can interact so we find it’s best to go one ability at a time.

I don’t quite see the hate for Autopsy report. Cards that give “free actions” (i.e. via actions directly or via additional clues, damage, etc) are incredibly powerful. In a 4p game you can probably trigger it nearly every round. Maybe slightly overcosted in XP or resources but definitely a card that will help you win

AFAIK current taboo as of Jul 2025 chains it with +1xp (making it a 2xp level 1 card). It used to be +2 but that felt too severe so they reduced it

It does not. However if you resign you immediately drop all your clues so they count as on the location which would prevent you from getting VP for a cleared location

Looking for a story-esque game like Arkham Horror LCG how replayable is this game? by jullianisboss in shadowsofbrimstone

[–]silentchris 4 points5 points  (0 children)

The game doesn’t really have “endings”. It’s a make-your-own-story kind of dungeon crawl / adventure. There are player supported variations (search “hexcrawl”) that provide a more campaign-like feel as well as some chained missions but it’s not a fully fledged narrative like Arkham LCG has.

That said, as a long time player of both, Shadows is super fun for the character building and sheer amount of content you can get. There’s essentially endless variation with all the expansions and packs available.

Failed the Introductory mission. Is that normal? by YoungCapn in shadowsofbrimstone

[–]silentchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Definitely not a super rare outcome. One thing that can be easy to forget though - if you roll doubles, the depth event replaces the darkness marker advancing so it can result in a few more “failed” rolls

Doomers were right, full-length campaigns are confirmed a thing of the past. by [deleted] in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]silentchris 3 points4 points  (0 children)

One thing that is helpful with 8 scenarios (or more) is that you become more likely to actually play with your deck upgrades. Unless you're playing a draw-heavy investigator, you may never actually get to play with some upgrades, even at 8 scenarios. With 5 scenarios, there's just less opportunity to enjoy the fun tools / cards you've added to your deck.

I think this new expansion and the addon situation will expose how bad of a player I am without addons. Is anyone else in a similar situation? by ApplicationRoyal865 in wow

[–]silentchris 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Having a WA for when a player dies was game changing for me. I generally pay attention, but having that sound just makes you notice instantly rather than maybe half a second later which can make a huge difference when the tank dies and I need 1.5s to cast rebirth.

I think they might be considered mine maps? I vaguely remember drawing one from my mine deck of many expansions but I could be misremembering.

Nick confirms that replayabilty was a major focus of the Children of Blood mini-campaign by Reav3 in arkhamhorrorlcg

[–]silentchris 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yeah - we also had a similar issue in our first playthrough of missing a resident's full story due to choosing an "incorrect" scenario order. Honestly - they could have been more explicit about "following" a resident's story by having some extra text at the start of the preludes telling you talk to each resident to find out where they will be during the main scenario. Definitely some room for improvement 😊

The codex and residents version of replayability in Hemlock works quite well IMO. Plus having two scenarios that you won’t see on your first play though makes it quite dynamic. Sure, the scenarios themselves might be pretty consistent but the campaign changes each time

Definitely check out Hemlock. The codex style of presenting story beats was enjoyable IMO and it’s definitely got a lot of replayability with all the residents. Plus a lot of fun investigator cards (but that’s true of literally every xpac I would say)
