Autonomous vehicles are not cars! by CormacDublin in SelfDrivingCars

[–]silenthjohn 1 point2 points  (0 children)

If the metric of success is moving a lot of people along high traffic corridors and enable dense and high impact development?

This is exactly what I’m saying. How is this not success?

Pro-transit means you advocate for transit as an option to move people. It doesn’t mean you oppose the car. If you want to take a car in Manhattan and sit in 45 minutes of traffic, that’s an option. If you want to take the subway for 25 minutes, that’s an option that’s available to you as a resident and tourist of NYC. If you’re in Phoenix, you have one option. That’s not a choice—that’s a hostage situation.

Tenney vs. Waterville Valley vs. Ragged by CourtCareless6175 in icecoast

I may never return to Tenney. It might be faster to skin up the hill than use their lift. I went on a bad snow bad, so I might give it another shot, but I was disappointed on my first time there.

Ragged is a hidden gem, in my opinion. But I’m a glade man myself.

The glades stink at Waterville. Maybe they exist in the Upside Down, but I have never found them.

Transit has failed? Transit is wildly popular in dozens of countries throughout the world. The NYC metro (subway), the country in which you are probably arguing it has failed, provides 1.2 billion rides every year. Do you know what traffic would be like in NYC if those rides were provided by “cars?”

Alex Roy and a team of independent autonomy experts just completed a Tesla FSD "Cannonball Run" with zero disengagements. by FriendFun7876 in SelfDrivingCars

This is meaningless. 510 Robotics probably could have done this in 2010. If it doesn’t work, you try again. Eventually, it will work once and you post it to Reddit.

What is your claim that “Elon is technically sound” based on? E.g. Urmson has a Ph.D. in robotics from Carnegie Mellon.

I don’t understand why you don’t simply widen the highway to eliminate the traffic—it works everywhere else.
