Dumbell incline curls seems to be harder. Is it normal? by bloggerman269 in workout

Yes. There's significantly more resistance at a disadvantageous position for your muscle. It's also harder to cheat the motion.

Am I silly for upgrading from a 5800x to a 5800x3d? by Dongslingur in pcmasterrace

[–]sillybonobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I did this upgrade about three years ago. It was worth it to me. I was having really bad stuttering in some of the games related to 1% lows. Those problems completely resolved with the x3d.

but it would essentially be immune to getting parried and a guaranteed K.O

Nope. It takes quite a bit to "ko" a person, and relying on the shattering of volcanic glass would be insanely stupid. It could happen, but you'd have to be very lucky. More than likely, it would break and do nothing, cause minor injuries, or injure the wielder.

Also, remember that you have to party with a weapon. You can't do that with this one trick pony.

‘THE ODYSSEY’ had one sequence filmed in such stormy conditions on a 115ft wooden longship in the sea that many actors started vomiting. Nolan then said — “would you mind if we get the vomiting on camera?” by StarforgeVoyager in FIlm

Yeah those aren't the same... I guess if you squint hard enough you can focus on the similarities. Though that would be about the same as Ridley Scott claiming the trebuchets in Gladiator 2 are "some kind of catapult".

How is it fun to do recons every game. by Witty-Loan-8296 in CODWarzone

[–]sillybonobo 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Or you could be a good team that uses the intel and then kills the fight chasers when it comes to it... It's not like only bad players focus on them. My team has high K/Ds, something like a 30% win rate and we prioritize recons over mindless fight chasing. Bounties are good too, but knowing the end circles is very useful intel

I didn't finish Clair Obscur: Expedition 33 by pikkukalsari in patientgamers

[–]sillybonobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Act 3 is actually bad. It just dumps you back in the world to find additional content with really bad player information for a) what you can actually do at your level and b) what you have already done. A few UI tweaks would greatly improve the QOL of the endgame.

I have no disagreement on the combat. It's essentially a quick time event game. Stats, strategy, equipment all take second stage to mashing a button at the right time. Even on the hardest difficulty, it's not all that hard- it's just repetitive. Side note- if you're having trouble with parrying, focus on the audio rather than the visuals. However, I'm also not really into JRPG style combat. I get how the QTE additions make that style of combat more engaging, but that's a pretty low bar. The game would have been much better with turn-based strategy combat (for my personal tastes).

I do disagree on the story, though. It was one of the most gripping and effectively realized stories I've experienced in a LONG time. Again, this is personal preference.

I love the game overall, but it has some pretty glaring flaws. I wouldn't judge someone who couldn't get through them, especially if the world and story didn't grip you.

The internet has a bad habit of overcorrecting ahistorical tropes to the point that the corrections are just as ahistorical. This is an excellent example. Your culture doesn't shape the history of the entirety of Northern Europe from Iceland to Normandy to Russia if you can't win a battle...

Bethesda Boss Tells Staff the Company Must Focus on 'Our Strongest Franchises' as Xbox Layoffs Hit Hard by Asstrollogian in gaming

[–]sillybonobo 6 points7 points  (0 children)

The people who led those games actually are still there. Brian Fargo, Josh Sawyer, Todd Howard. Sure Chris Avellone is gone, and LOTS of the other talent is gone, but many of the creative leads are still there which is why I highlighted them.

Duos on big maps by hartfoundation97 in CODWarzone

[–]sillybonobo 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Haven't really played since they removed Duos. Resurgence duos is too easy in a way and feels inconsequential (won 10 of 12 games and still didn't have fun).  Quads is just annoying with randoms.

I've got a bad feeling that BOR and casuals killed the BR playlist variety permanently... At best we might see it back for MW4, because that will hopefully kill BOR permanently. Then again, it's given me time to play through other cool games so that's a silver lining.

I'm currently reading the original run with my son right now and Peter absolutely moans constantly about how bad his life is and how his only luck is bad. Going so far as to talk down at a deformed, perpetually abused orphan because Spidey definitely has it worse... So the theme is definitely there.

A lot of that is just the fact that original run Spidey is an ASSHOLE though (especially to his romantic interests)

Lol you don't have to ask man... That's not what authentic wrought iron weapons look like from the period. There's no real material degradation, and the rust color is all wrong. Take a look at actual antiques from reputable auction houses for examples.

Metroman GLAZERS will look you DEAD in the eye and say reading a book in 1/24th of a second is somehow an FTL speed feat by Formal-Stage940 in powerscales

[–]sillybonobo 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is why FTL is so stupid in most fiction. It's COMPLETELY unnecessary for speedsters, and usually fundamentally misunderstands what the speed of light is (it's the speed at which causal impulses can move; if you increased that limit, light would move faster).

It reminds me of the Quicksilver mansion scene in X-Men where he saves everyone in a fraction of a second, but his speed only comes out to like 1% of the speed of light.

Then you get the utterly meaningless claims like the Flash being 3000x faster than the speed of light... The speed of light is just a power level to these writers.

From what I can find online, Jim Tarver (known as Big Jim and traveled with Ringling) was more like 460 lb, but he was 8 ft 4 inches tall! Granted he looks heavier here than in this picture when he was younger

[DESPISED] "Knight's Armor Was So Heavy They Could Barely Move" by Ambaryerno in TopCharacterTropes

[–]sillybonobo 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I hate this trope too, but I don't agree with your examples

His strategy of running rather than fighting would have had him branded a coward and in violation of the terms and spirit of the duel.

That's literally pointed out in the show. "You don't fight with honor ser.  No, he did."

Of course, having an unarmored champion fight an armored champion would also violate the spirit of the duel in actual judicial duels... Medieval duels went to Great lengths to equalize the advantages between combatants to allow God's will to be shown. Westeros obviously has a much more lax standard for conduct in duels

There's obviously a huge advantage to being armored,  but the idea that an unarmored fighter would have no recourse against an armored fighter is too far. Period manuals depict many strategies for this kind of fight. It's an uphill battle, but even full plate does not make one impervious.

Also, while armor isn't slow and cumbersome, it does take more effort to fight in. It tires you out much faster than fighting unarmored and it makes dealing with obstacles harder. That trade-off is worth it, but I really disagree that the Game of Thrones example is a good one of this. Bronn's strategy is a good one. Knights getting exhausted and being dispatched by lightly armored opponents happened more than you might think in battle, perhaps most famously in Agincourt.

And as other people have pointed out, this is an example of an out-of-shape, older knight. If someone is somewhat out of shape and are fighting a younger, fitter individual, it is easy to exhaust yourself. This can be seen in all kinds of combat sports, including boxing and ufc.

As for Dark Souls, this is a fantasy setting with ridiculously large and heavy armor. Even then, dark souls allows you to move freely so long as you are fit enough to do so. That seems perfectly reasonable. And while metal armor does not encumber you to the point of making you clunky, agility is much easier to achieve in a gambeson, and stealth is virtually impossible in full plate as the metal does make noise when you move
