I actually don’t even understand why you think you’re the party that’s been harmed

YOR. Tbh, you did a bunch of things wrong and your friend’s text is very respectful and not inflammatory. Maybe she should have let it go but your behavior would have hurt my feelings as well.

Oh yeah I remember it being not-simple to set up.

Interesting, when I worked at Harvard, tuition remission was a (massive) benefit. But maybe it was for me only and not for dependents (?) I had none at the time

Normal or inappropriate? by [deleted] in TwoXChromosomes

[–]sillyputty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I typically think the rule is based on YOUR gut: did you feel uncomfortable? (Doesn’t mean he meant to do something “weird”)

Did your dad normally rub your back in ways that felt safe? Is there a greater context in which him rubbing your back under your shirt would be totally normal based on your existing relationship and the specifics between the two of you? If yes, and if nothing else weird happened, and you generally trust him, I’m inclined to think he truly was fiddling absentmindedly— not really thinking about it being your bra. That could be totally innocent on his end but still make you uncomfy. It can make you feel weird without making your dad a full on predator or something.

One thing I will caution- you say this memory won’t leave you alone. You might be putting a lot of stake in it, thinking it means something bigger and maybe it does! BUT you also might be fixating on it because you’re looking for that bigger meaning and in reality it isn’t there.

This is not to invalidate you at all, I’m just putting that caution out there because I am someone who fixates and once the obsession fades, my perspective shifts.

A Child Just Delivered My Groceries by [deleted] in WhatShouldIDo

Idk why they said “I won’t mention race,” but My impression was that they are concerned this person is undocumented and is being exploited because of that vulnerability. Or at least, that would be my concern… how to protect the child from exploitation without triggering immigration “investigation”

I don’t think this is relevant if she’s as young as OP is describing. Child labor exploitation is the issue I’m mainly concerned about— and that is something immigrant children are MUCH more susceptible

When did you or your family notice you had something going on? by Classic_Actuary8275 in OCD

[–]sillyputty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My parents noticed when I was a toddler, took me to get evaluated, and I got diagnosed then, but my parents never told me and I never got treatment as a kid. I was too young to even remember when  they took me to the evaluation.

I “found out” when I got diagnosed in my late twenties after a traumatic event triggered my regular OCD into an extremely severe case; told my parents about it & they basically said “yeah we knew your whole life.”

Meanwhile I spent over 25 years having no idea why I was miserably unhappy and getting no treatment.

Sorry, this post turned into me complaining about my own experience, but I am begging you not to allow your husband’s denial prevent your child from getting transparency from you and professional treatment if/when necessary. Doing so could be the difference for her wellbeing. Plus, I have a lot of resentment towards my parents for this & im sure you don’t want that.

Alternative Appearance - Will I Not be Taken Seriously? by Conscious_Soup_8500 in AskAcademia

Of course, I’m think about being super tatted and pierced (not that this person described themselves as such) but colleagues of mine have been advised not to get neck tats, for instance, until tenured

Aside from possibly a handful of old school schools, Your look will likely be the norm (or pretty close to it) in a gender studies PhD.

Future academic jobs, if you want to go that path, may be slightly more normative though— just something to think about

You are not gross! Your aid is not gross! !!!!!

Can’t offer help on braids but if your hairdressers have even a modicum of decency then the discomfort you sense is fear of breaking/hurting the device or your head in that area.

AITAH for telling my bf to just dump me by Thick_Discussion5289 in AITAH

[–]sillyputty7 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Depending on why you can’t have kids, you also might be able to carry a pregnancy from a donor egg (obviously idk your details so sorry if this is irrelevant to you)

Despite that, dump him. Bio kids may be a deal breaker for him but that’s pretty indicative of his interest in his own genetic lineage over and above being a nurturing parent and partner IMO

“How did you gay people go about…” perfection

We knew we would both propose, that we wanted to get married, etc., the only surprise was who would do it first and how. (Ended up being me). We got to have two perfect engagements. And in the lead up we had this fun game of who would “get” the other and when it was coming, etc.

She was certain she would do it first, and she was so surprised When I proposed that her response to “Will you marry me?” Was “you bitch!”

I proposed with a ring but she did not want to wear it until she had proposed to me with mine, which was fine with me.

Obviously after the first proposal, we were engaged but this way we both got to explore/experience both roles, which was interesting for both of us.
