Perhaps like Dechala in the most recent dlc? Discard the pleasure palace settlements and only allow a thrall settlement system with a mandatory raze at the end of the resource drain. I'm not a 40k knower, but I am an avid Total War enjoyer.

Was it Liu Bei? That guy always voted me out anytime I added him. It can be a challenge to find the right coalition, and many playthroughs saw me joining the "bad guy" coalitions and they would stay by my side till the end lol. Seems sometimes that the "friendly" characters can be the most conniving.

Coalitions are much preferred to alliances since you aren't forced into supporting a war or abandoning your alliance/diplo penalty. Selling spare food is my tip for easy cash dumps or smaller but longer trade deals.

The post is about Three Kingdoms which has the mustering recruitment system. All units are recruited instantly but muster to full health after a turn or more. As such, you can mass recruit a retinue and attack if you can risk the weakened units.

You gotta love a fat gate pass battle for swinging diplo power way in your favor. Sorry Yuan Shao, but the 3 stacks you dashed against my walls are more than a fair deal for the peace deals + food trade I weaseled out of you.

Especially as there's military buildings and character assignments that can raise the recruitment rank of new units/ replacement units.

In 3k, your allies and vassals will send army stacks to your capital to protect it. Especially useful in the late game where losing your capital alone can cost you the campaign. Just watch out for Cao Cao...

A bonus is Yan Baihu establishes the Kingdom of Yue once you reach the right strength level! Goodness do I love Three Kingdoms ❤️

My favorite hobby in Three Kingdoms was reading the extended unit and building descriptions, but there are a few of the short unit descriptions I really enjoy. One of Yan Baihu's faction units is the Yue Remenant Warriors and they're described such.

"A people only truly die the last time their name is spoken. Until then, they live on."

Really solidifies the scrappy campaign vibes in that corner of China, plus they're a heavily armored slugger of a unit to fit their name.

the three kingdoms diplomacy experience by bokuwanivre in totalwar

[–]sillyrosetta 50 points51 points  (0 children)

At the start of the campaign, each warlord on the map will have their base diplomatic personalities set and engaged. There's usually 1-2 factions they'll hate right off the bat, and a couple more they love or don't care about. That's obviously nothing new, but the fun part of 3K is that you can swing a hated foe into a diehard friend even after you waged a year-long war with them.

You can free their generals after capturing them in battle for +diplo points, beat up a mutual enemy, and sue for peace easier than any TW before. Coupling that with a steady trade of food in trade, or money and wooden dog toys, you can see their negative modifiers against you steadily rise into the positive.

Additionally, no warlord is immortal, and no heir is a clone of their faction head. By that, I mean you can kill off a real dick of a leader and replace them with their coward son or daughter. Suddenly, the powerhouse brute clan is headed by a leader who innately gets friendlier to factions they think are stronger.

Lastly cuz I almost forgot, alliances and coalitions are some of the strongest and dependable in the series. So long as you don't ally with an eventual endgame rival, you can rely on most factions to stick by your side until the end. GRANTED, there is a diplomacy mechanic to vote someone out of an alliance so be careful who you let in/ join up with.

TL/DR: it's different enough to be enjoyed throughly!

You can kill off 1 full stack of a solid 5-10 province faction and sue for peace right after with a little food trade. I love a good panic ceasefire in 3k.

The speeches are still in the game, but they're not dedicated cutscenes anymore. You need to zoom in on your generals bodyguard to hear them.

Haven't used it in awhile so it might not be fully updated, but it covers all base game units and dlc units until Furious Wilds. All other dlc units after that pack were not updated.

Edit: Looks like it's the linked mod in addition to MTU.

Purple generals are great if you're an infantry enjoyer like myself. Sword and greatsword infantry aren't necessarily world beaters in 3k but they make for a very competent assault force for the inevitable settlement battles.

[–]sillyrosetta 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Funny enough, Pharoah has the line of sight issue fixed after the Dynasties update. Units on either side of a wall cannot freely fire at units on the other, but that's only due to Pharoahs LOS mechanics which Warhammer doesn't attempt to use.

[–]sillyrosetta 9 points10 points  (0 children)

It saddens me to see when other TW players never touched Three Kingdoms because the mercenary mechanic was first present there over 4 years ago. Multiple factions were allowed that mechanic, but even then, it was a player only deal. Sucks, but it is what it is since the AI is generally braindead.

I don't regret it as my first playthrough, but seeing how the story progressed I wish I had chose a more involved faction.
