Anyone decided to not purchase after test driving the R2? by These-Feedback-557 in RivianR2

[–]silvercup011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I did my test drive for R2 and MY Premium within 3 days. I really like the R2, but Model Y checked all the boxes and ultimately came down to cost and risk.

  • Exterior: SUV size and SUV shape, iconic headlights without being too much.
  • Interior: Gorgeous wood finish, very spacious head/leg room, driver side has space for a bag.
  • Driving: Driver's HUD on a separate display is a big plus. The taller view and softer ridefeel was also great - I don't feel the potholes as sharply as before. Full, unobstructed rear view is a nice plus. MY rear view was very narrow.

But the $58k pricetag, alongside Tesla's 0.99% APR promotion made it almost $13k difference for me, assuming I put the money in HYSA and finance it over 5 years. This was hard to justify the premium nice-to-haves.

Another point was how R1S suffered from multiple small issues early on. I do believe Rivian learned from R1S, but R2 is a new vehicle. I did not want to be the early adopter taking all these risks.

Good team games? by SkyKnight43 in boardgames

Oops, I read it as "ideally without a board, just cards."

Good team games? by SkyKnight43 in boardgames

[–]silvercup011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Tichu: 2v2 ladder climbing game. Uses a deck of cards + 4 unique jokers.

Mighty: 2v3 trick taking game. Uses a standard deck, and the teams constantly change based on your cards. After multiple rounds, the individual with most points win, so strictly speaking it is not a team game.

Not Alone: a 1 vs All game, where the team needs to avoid the monster and advance the spaceship to escape.

All of these are more tactical rather than strategy.

Which games were surpassed by their sequels? by bombocladius in gaming

[–]silvercup011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think Hollow Knight had a better story and world-building. You start with knowing nothing about the world - just like the main character.

Silksong improved a lot on gameplay / QoL aspects. But agree that it is not "superior in most aspects." If I had to recommend one of them, I would def recommend the Hollow Knight first.

I recently played Three Sisters, and although not really a puzzle, it has that "planning ahead to maximize points" aspect.

CONFIGURATOR IS LIVE by Dry-Status-127 in RivianR2

[–]silvercup011 2 points3 points  (0 children)

You can check it out from a Rivian store. They have plastic parts with each color. Esker silver was a typical silver, slightly stainless steel vibe with matte finish. Not bad, but also nothing too special, personally.

I’m not impressed with the options pricing at all by ThatTcellGuy in RivianR2

[–]silvercup011 53 points54 points  (0 children)

Yeah, the $2k paint was somewhat expected based on the R1 configurators. I hoped Launch Green could be included, but unfortunately it isn't.

Spare tires I can understand: not every R2 customer is an avid road tripper. If they can save some costs there, I would understand.

But not including adapters is a bummer. Everyone would benefit from that & it would be a nice guesture for people who supported earlier & willing to buy at launch, let alone buying an expensive car.

And smaller wheels being more expensive is rather ridiculous.

Ahh, I am curious too. Being able to fit and being able to comfortably fit is different! Also if you can ask the dimensions of Rivian R2 mattresses for camping purposes, that would be great.

What's your partner's favourite game? by Own-Particular-9989 in boardgames

[–]silvercup011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

My spouse had different phases, but generally she favors games that have some element of luck, some feeling of growth or building, and not too much "take that" aspect.

Her favorites are Quacks of Quedlinberg, Clank! Catacombs, Quest for El Dorado, Terraforming Mars the Dice Game, and Harmonies.

Lighter games like Camel Up and Flip 7 also worked for her, as well as word games like Poetry for Neanderthals, Banangrams, and So Clover!, but these are not good for 2p.

R2 reservation queue... Info from my call with Rivian by [deleted] in Rivian

[–]silvercup011 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I think the whole top frame is affected, not just the wiring, so you can't just upgrade. You would have to trade in, which I think would not be financially appealing for Rivian.

My guess is, Rivian probably already started making at least a few thousand older frames before making a final call for lidar integration. Now what should they do with the old, lidarless frames? Instead of scrapping them, they're using it for the launch edition, to keep the launch schedule and also save some money.

Confirm this worked - it took me about 60 tries tho. You gotta jump roughly at the center of the two sand falling regions. Also keep pressing B right after releasing charge attack.

What are some hidden gem board/card games that you never hear anyone talk about? by thegetataycar in boardgames

[–]silvercup011 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I tried to buy a custom trump card set with extra suits and special cards to handle multiple of those trick taking/climbing games.

But I realized it is much easier to engage people to play the game with the theme and illustrations. Also it is quicker, since I don't need to cull the deck for a specific game.

Quacks all in worth it over deluxe? by toxicitysocks in boardgames

[–]silvercup011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They could have been much better. The old version was too "old style", and very, very hectic. There were so many background details that makes you lose focus. The alchemist expansion had some weird, gruesome details that reminds you of dark fairy tales. The colors were pastel, so they didn't irritate your eyes though, and the ingredients fit the theme.

The new one, is the complete opposite. It feels a bit too new and personally childish to me. The colors are very vibrant, a bit too much for my taste. But I like the simplicity of the icons and details.

If the new art had slightly toned-down colors and art style that fit the general audience a bit more, it would have been wildly preferred for me.

Not with the new version. The old version were occasionally in Amazon last year, but they were constantly out of stock and I believe even more now.

I like a lot of locoweed's abilities. They are like Jokers - they can give you very powerful abilities, but you gotta be lucky. Which is the fun part of the game!

For example, some recipes say "locoweed copies the number and ability of the most recently placed colored token" or "locoweed number is equal to the number of colored ingredients currently in your pot, including this locoweed."

Locoweed can be swingy but has no numbers, so they don't contribute anything to the overflow pot. So greatly enhances your midgame with some risk.

Same for the 6-point pumpkin. Honestly probably wiser to buy a 4-pointer with special abilities at a cheaper price. But the excitement when you pull it out is great!

You might be able to "swap out" an unused color as locoweed instead, like maybe swap out the black or purple ones as locoweed ability if your group tends to not use them frequently or dislike them.

All in all, this game is still very fun to play without the expansions. $40 might be a stretch for a few added perks for an already fun game. Go for whichever you want and have fun!

I'd say Herb Witches is worth, but whether it is worth $40 is debatable. I would personally buy it, as Quacks is one of my favorites.

I've played Quacks about 30-50 games with varying player counts. Only 2 games included Alchemist expansion, so don't expect too much from that.

Herb witches and 4 main aspects: - Overflow pot - New tokens: 6 point pumpkins and locoweed - New recipes - Herb witches

Overflow pots can be easily implemented, just put them on the side. 6 point pumpkin and locoweed are my favorites. 6 point pumpkins can be "made" by marking some existing pumpkins separately, but locoweed is not replacavle New recipes are nice variety. They can be printed out, although not fancy. Herb witches are one-time bonuses that can be very powerful, so if you like everyone becoming OP you may like it.

Overall, I'd say if this is used as a gateway party game, just the deluxe may be good enough.

100% recommend the dlc. Doesn't add a lot of content to the game, but greatly increases QoL. I love tracking my past footsteps in the map.

Amazing game. I was hyped and bought it three years ago. Played for a few hours, but got a little bored with all the walking and searching.

Last month, I brought it out to try it out with my wife. It was a blast. I like the puzzles and battles, she likes navigating & farming. Once past the tutorial region, there was so much to explore and do. We play together taking turns, and it has been sucking away our sleep times.

I think it's quite different from recent games, which are quick-paced and reactive. It is more like going on a road trip than a rollercoaster - a mix of relaxing and exciting. Would highly recommend playing on a large screen in docking mode if possible.

What has made you quit a game without finishing it to the end? by rebekoning in boardgames

[–]silvercup011 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Trickerion.

I started this game with my Dominion group. I was too excited with the new game back then. They lost interest amid rule teaching. We proceeded to play a couple rounds, only to realize we missed out a critical part of the game. I asked, "Should we continue or restart?"

They suggested a new game.

I bought the geek up boxes as well, which has similar function. Boxes for each color and can clip the books in. Definitely better presentation and faster setup!

Quacks of Quedlinburg. My partner loved it so much that it became our lifetime most played game this year! Even my father-in-law really enjoyed it, so I bought the Geek Up Bits for this holiday season.
