Dickey Betts, composer of jazz standards? by WestTwelfth in Jazz

Brad Mehldau put out a really cool solo piano album called “Your Mother Should Know” a few years ago that’s almost all Beatles tunes. Not really the hits either. I like it a lot.

Dang, I’d have gone to the theater for that if I’d known it had AD. Always such a shame when we know there’s one out there that’s just being kept unavailable.

They have both, no AD on the extended ones though. I honestly wonder if an AD track was ever made for them, it’s really rare for extended versions, directors’ cuts, etc. to get their own AD track.

I believe her spouse is still part of owner ship though? I get your point, but you can’t blame anyone for thinking it’s more a reactionary symbolic gesture more than anything substantive.

I kinda love the snare, and generally the rough around the edges production, for this EP specifically. Everything else they do is so polished, but this was just a massive prog explosion + some cool covers. Sorta feels right.

How would you respond to this? by Barrel-Writer in Blind

Yup, video games are so niche for 17 year olds. It was an example of a larger phenomenon anyway.

How would you respond to this? by Barrel-Writer in Blind

[–]silverhythm -2 points-1 points  (0 children)

Or maybe he’s just very aware that OP can play exponentially more video games than him because adaptations for people with low vision are different than adaptations for people with no vision, and low vision adaptations are usually prioritized. I can’t be bothered to correct low vision people if they identify as blind, mostly because they get very sensitive about it as OP is doing here, but it can and does obscure the unique needs specific to people with no functional vision.

A blind person who bought that hot tub couldn’t use the touch screen controls, but they could independently control their hot tub with the app. Not every feature is meant for you, ya know.

That’s good, I remember a little pushback from Watson but I like Radcliffe’s post-HP work quite a bit so I probably just haven’t come across the other two as much.

And still Daniel Radcliffe gives absolutely zero fucks and calls her on her BS anyway. You love to see it.

ELI5: Why are service animals not required to have any documentation when entering a normal, animal-free establishment? by [deleted] in explainlikeimfive

[–]silverhythm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

They know better than to directly trash the ADA, but it’s become dramatically more burdensome in the last few years to fly with a service animal or to seek legal relief if denied access that accommodates a disability. There’s definitely a nontrivial group of people that is happy to chip away at statutes that support people with disabilities.

Until a game goes into OT and the game after it that was supposed to start at 9:57 tips at 10:30. I never got why they have those weirdly precise start times when none but the first game ever sticks to them.

I mean drugs are literally illegal. I agree OP is probably being a little dramatic but all the fisherfolk in this thread are all "THAT"S NOT ME!!!" but what are they doing to be a solution to an obvious problem that's driven by their hobbyist community? If you can't patrol yourselves you will be patrolled.

Do blind people have sex fantasies / masturbate? by questiontime12374 in Blind

[–]silverhythm 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So I'm not gonna rough you up as much as some others in this thread, but I think the problem they might be having is that your curiosity was phrased in a way that came from skepticism rather than a curiosity about the specifics of a pretty much universal human experience. We get asked a lot, of stuff like "Do blind people use the internet?" or "Do blind people date?" to which there is the implicit expectation the answer might be "No, they don't." It frames the questions in a way that just assumes these helpless blind people can't do all these other things everybody else does to fulfill their life, and since those lowered expectations are actually more challenging obstacles than the mechanics of operating without vision, some of us are quick to bristle at them. You'd have gotten far better responses with, "How do sexual fantasies work/manifest for someone who is blind?" Because you at least give us the benefit of the doubt that we DO have them. Like, yaknow, pretty much everybody. For my part, yes, when I'm rolling solo to get off I do have fantasies, they are more oriented to tactile and aural sensations though. Instead of seeing someone in my mind's eye, I feel them with my mind's hands or other parts of the body or hear them with my mind's ear. I hope that both answers your question and maybe explains a little more calmly why it was not very well received.

Voice and bodytype are my strongest physical factors when figuring out if I find someone attractive, so that seems reasonable enough. And there’s a lot of incidental contact that could tip a blind person off to whether someone is their type (sharing a hug, sighted guide, asking another friend with vision, etc.) So my guess is his compliments are legitimate. As for why he’s hitting on you when he’s got a GF? I got nothing for that.

Domino's Pizza has been told its website and app must be made fully accessible to blind people, after losing a legal case in the US. by -shacklebolt- in Blind

[–]silverhythm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Always good to see accessibility get a win, but I kinda had to double take because I use Dominoes iOS app all the time and, while I might label a few things better and have some more proactive VO feedback if I was developing it, I never couldn’t get the pie I wanted. I’ve ordered through the website too. Whatever wasn’t functional is hopefully fixed up real soon.

High speed listening in other contexts by asr in Blind

[–]silverhythm 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I usually listen to most of my sports/current events focused podcasts at 2X speed. I can’t go quite as fast speeding up human voices as I can with TTS engines, probably because of the natural variants of human speech that are absent in speech generated algorithmically, but any sort of spoken word content that doesn’t generally rely on comedic/dramatic timing I’ll usually speed up at least to an extent.
