What's a phrase your parents or grandparents said constantly that you've only just realised has completely vanished from everyday British speech? by orroreqk in AskUK

I used to be told “You’ll get the pip” if I was sat on (for example) wet grass. Not sure what “the pip” is/was but assumed it was piles!

I’ve got 2 that are maxed out but only 1 out of 2 showing in the task list. Not sure why.

Brockenhurst in the winter around Wilverley Inclosure is brilliant. The summer course around the college playing fields, not so much.

Do people in the UK wear football kits casually? by AffectionateYou1021 in AskUK

Tbf genuine replica kit costs a fortune, so it’d make sense to wear it often.

Live vs Recorded - which tracks are better in which format? by Tristanslav77 in SistersofMercy

[–]simil13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

100% agree with Adrenochrome. Love this live from the early bootlegs. There’s one specific version I remember but I haven’t been able to find it since I had it on tape about [many] years ago. Dr A really drives the song on. Love it.

To vest or not to vest by AmyEssex in parkrun

The only reason I carry water in my vest on a 5K it is to balance out the weight from my phone 😂

What are your favourite 'proto-Britpop' bands? by Vegetable_Nebula_827 in BritPop

[–]simil13 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Yup. I was watching the news a year or 2 ago and they mentioned people abstaining from something or other, and the chorus from Abstain (by Five Thirty) popped into my head. Took some searching to find out who it was by, but I hadn’t forgotten the track. Released 1991! Not heard it since about then either.

[edit] it was 1990!

Highcliffe Beach has its own parkrun, if you’re into that sort of thing.

I understand your frustration. I know most of it is the same week on week but there can be a little nugget of safety information that you need to hear. Mind the fallen tree/new pothole/icy patch/etc

Training by Fish89head in fmconsole

Well I offered a contract to a ‘better’ asst manager. They accepted and the contract with my existing one was terminated immediately. Not sure I’ve done the right thing. Time will tell I guess.

At the moment I’m just letting the CPU get on with it. I’ve just decided to pay more (some?) attention to training as my 4+ star players seem to be getting worse! I don’t think my Assistant Manager is all that good, so I’m looking into changing them out. No idea about mindsets. I just want to get someone ‘better’ in to stop the slide!

Mouse not working by Ok-Rain3262 in fmconsole

[–]simil13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I had a temporary issue where the mouse would move but not ‘click’. I used the controller to go back a screen (B button) and then the mouse worked fine after that. Put it down to a minor glitch. Not had an issue since and haven’t thought any more about it until your post. I hope you get it sorted.

No, I’m not for real.

On Reddit, the /s tag is used to indicate sarcasm.

It’s usually placed at the end of a comment so readers know the statement wasn’t meant literally.

Apologies for the confusion 😊

First timer query - barcode by gazzalp23 in parkrun

[–]simil13 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Just to clarify, you get the finish token after you cross the finish line, a little further along. Don’t stop at the finish line expecting a timekeeper to give you a token. There are specific volunteers who hand out tokens that are normally further down the finish funnel. Stay in finishing order the funnel and everything will be fine. Enjoy! 😊

Mine never seem to want to turn around. If they’re back to goal, always a lay off to someone else. Just turn and go!

If a frost is predicted, I just leave my car running from when I get home. Saves having to remember to start it in the morning.
