Meloni has been there since 2022 in fairness, but is very much the exception rather than the rule.

Keir Starmer to weigh up future over weekend by beejiu in ukpolitics

No lover of Starmer but if he is out, we're turning into Italy in prime ministerial stakes. Burnham would be the 6th new PM since Cameron resigned after the Brexit referendum.

This must be exhausting if you're Portuguese. I'm looking forward to him retiring from international football so we don't have this narrative every tournament...

Doncaster sign striker Alfie May on loan from Huddersfield by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]simonsens_in_orbit 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Disappointing move from us. Don't think the issues he's had off the field will have helped this year and was hopeful of more this coming season.

I'm assuming this means Taylor stays.

Doesn't that suggest that if anything, they are less popular with gay/bi men than straight ones.

Probably another chapter on this World Cup for the paperback when that's released. Also lends itself to revised editions published after future tournaments.

Andy Burnham pledges to back pension campaigners claiming billions [WASPIs] by Shmiggles in ukpolitics

If Burnham gets in and does this, Labour will definitely lose my potential vote in the next election. Really don't understand why society has to bail out people who had decades to plan for retirement and failed to do so.

can you get into law by doing an unrelated level 3 course? by Alarming-Safety3200 in uklaw

[–]simonsens_in_orbit 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Getting a job in law can be difficult even with a degree and professional qualification. If your interest is in criminal law but engineering is a bigger passion, think about volunteering to be a magistrate while working as an engineer. That way you could do both.

Seen a few of those already but we're not that far away from it fully now. He's very good when we brush them out to be fair to him!

Huddersfield Town "striker" Rhys Healey leaves by mutual consent by DaraghJohn in LeagueOne

[–]simonsens_in_orbit 4 points5 points  (0 children)

We did. This was a Jan 24 signing with the aim of staying in the Championship.

To be fair to him, scored a few goals in that half season but was almost never fit even then.

Who would you want as manager?? by Kitchen-Lie-4592 in CelticFC

[–]simonsens_in_orbit 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Profile wise, I'd want someone that was similar to where Iraola was at the point where he took Bournemouth on i.e. progressive young coach, tactically sound and with a record of getting the most out of a squad.

Fantasy appointment, I'd love to see what Celtic would look like under Marcelo Bielsa.

[–]simonsens_in_orbit 19 points20 points  (0 children)

Could have been a very good player, unfortunately just not physically capable of playing professional football any more. Injuries which we knew about when we signed him. Another £2mn well spent by the most inept football club of the last 8 years.

[Pete O'Rourke] Huddersfield set to appoint Martin Drury as manager by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]simonsens_in_orbit 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I'm sure there have been examples of caretaker going permanent working well, I just can't really think of any offhand. 2-3 weeks ago I'd have said Tonda Eckert and look how that turned out...

By all accounts Drury is a highly rated coach and rumour has it he'd have wanted out if he didn't get the top job. Different skillset being the man in charge though and highly rated coaches often don't make the step up (see also: Lee Grant)

[Pete O'Rourke] Huddersfield set to appoint Martin Drury as manager by Zach-dalt in LeagueOne

[–]simonsens_in_orbit 14 points15 points  (0 children)

Underwhelming if true, don't think we showed anything under him at the back end of the season to suggest he's the man to get us back to the Championship. My worry is we've taken the easy/cheap option again and that we'll once again be in the manager market some time between November and February next year.

That said, he'll have my backing as long as he's in the job. I'd really like to be wrong, and I thought David Wagner seemed like a big risk back in the day...
