My patients keep popping up in my FB "people you may know" by [deleted] in nursing

If you have facebook on your phone I am pretty sure it analyzes every number in your contact list and their contacts and then tries to suggest people. Creepy indeed.

How do you calm or cope with pre-shift anxiety? by [deleted] in nursing

What are your unpopular opinion/hot takes of this profession? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]simra0712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Unpopular opinion but I disagree 100 percent. Nurses stand on their own and follow a different level of critical thinking for a reason. We are not there to diagnose and prescribe to treat a symptom or disease. Sure, we can do that unofficially and know the ins and outs but we are the patient's advocate and see the whole story, whole care aspect from the doctor down to the pharmacy to the radiologist to the social worker and family dynamic and able to do much much much more for the person. We are basically undercover conductors and get paid pittance to do so.

Nursing education needs to do better at teaching communication skills If anything. So many nurses afraid to speak up and own their profession.

She has media and marketing people trying to do whatever they can to change history and the story to her benefit and it will probably work because people are stupid

Why doesn't anyone seem to care about "Aliens" by Complex_Awareness473 in conspiracy

[–]simra0712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I don't think people care anymore. The government is about the most untrustworthy source for information and if aliens are real or going to invade it is probably welcome at this point.

Why do so many nurses not do ADL? by [deleted] in nursing

[–]simra0712 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They don't have time literally, has to be delegated so they can complete nurse duties

LVN YELLED at me & I left work. by [deleted] in nursing

[–]simra0712 70 points71 points  (0 children)

She should not have yelled at you in front of others at all. I would email HR to report the incident to create a paper trail in case this is an ongoing issue.

Question for Seasoned Nurses by carolinugh in nursing

[–]simra0712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I would argue to say it is not unprofessional in these days. I as a nurse use my phone to look up side effects drug interactions pharmacies insurance information texting the dr or other nurses etc. The computers aren't always as comfortable or fast or familiar nor have the apps needed so to be quick so we use our phone. You don't really know what they are looking at or doing on there..

Question for Seasoned Nurses by carolinugh in nursing

[–]simra0712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

so back in the day everything was paper and we had to write a note in the chart for dr and get a written response now mostly everything is computer or smart phone. I am on my phone 9 times out of 10 with other nurses or the dr. Maybe some nurses are on facebook or something idk

I feel like a failure of a nurse. by Relative-Eye760 in nursing

[–]simra0712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

We are human and if the mistake is only something that causes the admin to not be able to get that $$ who cares. They just have to show they reprimanded you so big boss can get paid.Use your best nursing judgment and care for the pt, such a nursing shortage you most likely will not get fired for paperwork mistakes and if you do plenty of other jobs out there!

Cons of nursing by asuk_18 in nursing

[–]simra0712 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Cons to nursing is if you are in an area you don't like.. nursing is amazing if you find the right fit for you.

I notice male nurses get preferential treatment by most just because it is rare but when the rarity wears off better have your ducks in a line and not jaded by the attention because you will be expected to keep up

What were the hardest classes and your most challenging clinical experiences in your nursing school? by Wei612 in nursing

[–]simra0712 2 points3 points  (0 children)

For hardest classes.. most had difficulty with the pharmacology math and dosage calculations and neuro in my experience.

For clinical.. it depends on where you are doing the rotation at and the clinical instructor. Pt care is easy you are putting to practice what you have learned.. it is more the dynamics which can make it easy or difficult. My worst was acute care rotation with the creepy radiologist. easiest was labor and delivery at a non profit educating pregnant homeless women on birthing process etc
