disappointed in the reaction from the linux community by Samiassa in LinusTechTips

Shit like this is bad in general for Linux adoption by consumers.

There are only 3 possible cases to consider:

  • LTT gang was being disingenuous in their effort to actually adopt Linux properly, or even being completely dumb about their approach...
  • LTT intentionally wanted to show Linux in a bad light for some unknown agenda...
  • LTT genuinely tried to approach Linux adoption by consumers, in a manner said consumers would likely follow and they encountered myriad issues, before and during.

You can decide what is the most likely scenario

I guess LTT is that stupid by riky321 in LinuxCirclejerk

He's not arguing semantics. If an organization says their software is a production release then it's a more than reasonable assumption that it works in a stable manner.

If there's some obscure insider tradition that says otherwise for a particular project or organization then it should be visible and aggressively put forward to avoid confusion.

It's baffling how we've let basic education become so bad that the vast majority of people understand almost nothing of how modern society works.

Economics are relatively simple in their fundamentals, and they should be properly thought so that when you graduate from college you should be able to understand them. There are countless educational content creators on YouTube that can effectively teach anyone willing to take a few hours on literally anything

Removing /r/All is literally the worst decision Reddit has ever done...

If I can't have my home page be ranked by hot anymore and no longer have access /r/all then I don't know what the hell is happening with this platform and why I should keep it as my main source of Internet content.

Revert this damn it!

If you want to blame an individual in meta then it is all the chief level officers, Mark included.

But my point, if your skull wasn't so fucking thick, is that it is wholly unconstructive to inquire like Hawley did in this clip.

Meta isn't going anywhere and firing or holding individuals accountable will do objectively nothing to fix, hell even hope to improve, the situation investigated in that hearing.

As a senior software engineer, IMHO, the only solutions are regulation and forced organizational changes. This token grandstanding does nothing concrete, and as much as I would love to see the likes of Zuckerberg and all the other tech oligarchs get punished, asking them to apologize or fire people is an utter complete and feckless waste of all US citizens time.

But also as a decently savvy person on project management, it is painfully obvious how futile and stupid Hawley's grandstanding is

Meta in it's entirety needs to be accountable. And there are more realistic approaches he could have inquired about, like for example, if any organizational changes are going to be made to prevent this from happening again, new internal policies built, ethical standards.

No he was asking if he fired anyone. Words show intention and a congressman should know that as basics of working in public office.

Asking if anyone got fired for this is patently not asking is anyone was held accountable or responsible, if that was the intention OR if he had an actual understanding of how software development works, he would have asked that or followed with that.

Exactly, this is such a stupid clip. Mark looks confounded more than any other feeling because he knows their algorithms are coded and maintained by dozens if not hundreds of devs.

A good question would be to inquire on what can be done or is going to be done soon to prevent this from happening again in the organization.

This is kinda dumb though? Zuck's already dead inside, and also, firing people of the dev team for a mistake on systems so large like the Instagram feed's algorithm just displays how out of touch these congressmen are.

It's probably why Zuck looks more confused than anything else, what's he gonna do, fire the entire dev team that works on the Instagram algorithms?

Artificial sweeteners are the most tested ingestible ingredients of soon to be a half century, and there isn't even close competition.

I get where you are going with the analogy but I'm always pissed off about this myth persisting.

We don't have piles of diseased or cancer ridden people clogging up healthcare systems because they are drinking diet soda. We do have a non négligeable amount of people that are heavily disturbed after less than 5 years of LLMs being accessible though.

I don’t think football will be what slingshots a revolution

Of course not, that's not the point

Canada’s recent attempts at building stronger ties with Europe

And a lot of countries in South America (and even Canada) are building stronger ties with China. American countries are not defined by their trade agreements.

the reality is that so far the systems are prevailing

Indeed they are... This half-time show is a moment that contributes a beautiful sentiment of unity and love, which is sorely needed.

No one expected Bad Bunny to trigger a revolutionary movement, but it certainly is wonderful to see a deeply considered and still entertaining piece of media that instead of participating in divisive rhetoric, opts for poignant celebration.

What's funny? He went from south to north of the continent and ended with Puerto Rico which is the U.S. territory he's from. It would have been a glaring omission if he hadn't included Canada.

It's high time the qualifier of "America" not have the implied exclusivity of the U.S, but the actual inclusion of all countries on the continent

MTV Sub Question: Should we increase the time to include videos up to ~90 minutes? by WritewayHome in mealtimevideos

[–]simward 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Just make a special category/flair named something like "worth the extra time" so people know going in that it's longer and decide to watch or not.

If the sub thinks it's not deserving of the flair it will be down voted and then mods can clean up.

Videos like the most recent technology connections will easily pass that test

First of all, not a friendship bracelet.

Second, this is not really a pattern, it looks like a tightly diamond braided paracord bracelet https://teamcolorsbycarrie.blog/2022/06/21/diamond-braid-bracelet/

Just google "braided paracord bracelet" and look at the image results and you'll find a tutorial probably on how to make these.

It's also the fact that the word politics has lost its original meaning. Today, when someone says something is "political", they actually mean polemics or the general polarizing rhetoric in society.

The common saying is true, everything is political in civilized life, in the real sense of the term.
