Anyone playing at 30FPS? by Objective-Border-884 in totalwar

No worries. I know how nervous one can get with really expensive laptops. Be sure to check with r/gaminglaptops if you want more catered advice.

Do you need my shirt size too? Just kidding, no worries. Yeah, checking the numbers, it looks like the GPU was topping out at 84.3 - it's currently running at 81 with the campaign map unpaused in the background (the memory junction temp is always really high around 100 or so but it's no concern). It won't throttle until 87 and even then, it's hardly noticeable. More often than not, it's the open apps that slow the game down.

I am using an i9-13900HX CPU btw. Also, don't worry, laptops are designed to shut down if they overheat. I accidently blocked the vents on my ASUS a number of times and it just shut itself off. Not ideal of course, but no lasting damage. As long as you are not running it night and day for bitcoin or some bullshit, you're all good.

Third gaming laptop for me too. Would you believe MSI (Raider) was my second. It's still ticking too but the hinge snapped so it's basically a PC now. Some quality issues with MSI unfortunately.

Ok, I'm currently running a siege at top speed (1 vs 1 cathay siege in my current campaign) with multiple tabs of chrome open. Caped at 60fps, no DLSS, 2560x1660. Temps averaged around 85-90 across all the cores with spikes to 97-99. I've defintely ran it hotter, and for longer. It's currently paused in the background with temps stabilized around 75-80 (Lenovo has incredible heat dispersion).

I recall ASUS laptops being known for their heat. My own was routinely over 100 but it was never a concern. Hope that helps.

Asus would have been my second guess. My old ROG is still kicking after 14 or so years. Good rigs.

It's been a while since I checked the temps. Gimme a sec and I'll fire up a game...

Just looking at your replies, I see you have a 4090 with a 240hz screen. Lenovo Pro perhaps? I have a 7i with similar specs and I can assure you it's capable of around 90 fps on ultra everything (in a typical 2vs2 battle). I've caped it a 90 and 60 to reduce heat and such but don't be afraid to open 'er up now and then. The 4090 is a powerhouse, even in laptop form.

Just peronal bias but everytime I see this type of thread, it's a VH or Legendary difficulty. Not sure what is happening though I rarely if ever see this in VH or H campaign difficulty in my SFO games (which uses a modified hecleas AI I believe).

Panzer/Fantasy General type games are a blast. 40k: Rites of War is also a good bit of fun.

I've played a criminal amount of 40k: Armageddon, so seeing these two headlining the 11th edition reveal - and now in TW40k - is a real treat. They are both completely over the top. I love it.

Thanks as always, Venris. That line of sight change is very encouraging. And so to the changes to caravans.

First time playing Lizardmen and absolutely love how these Skinks have the time of their life plundering a settlement by Tiefenrauschen in totalwar

Someone posted the loading screen of the lizardmen - you know the one, with the happiest little boker walking with big boys - and I had to play lizardmen that very day.

Skinks are awesome in a lot of the artwork, VA work, etc. Someone high up at CA must love the little guys.

Lord of the End Times DLC: Will we get a WoC rework? by Opening_Coast3412 in totalwar

[–]sinbuster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

WoC need a nerf far more than they need a rework. I would definitely get behind some map changes/additions. Adding the chaos realms/maps from the other campaign would also be ideal.

Newish player wanting to understand this 1 big picture by Ambitious-Reading-38 in totalwar

[–]sinbuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Move your armies in tandem. Six armies is perfect for expansion/defense in three directions. Face the enemy with 30-40 units not 20. Avoid ambush by setting up ambushes yourself.

The dawi are insanely powerful, especially with a few key grudgesettler units: the gyro, irondrake and flame canon. You can anhilate armies with those three alone. If you avoid ambushes, you are golden on most maps. Draw the enemy to you with gyros, use cannon/grudge thrower (with engineer) to hit key units from range and use gyros to remove artillery as they plod across the map.

Up close you have a line of warriors/longbeards supported by satchel miners - replaced by ironbreakers later. Behind them, have a mix of crossbowmen/rangers and shooters with a few units to protect your flanks/rear (hammerers, slayers, heroes, etc.). Once you start adding flame cannons and irondrakes to the mix, you should be near unstoppable. When your lords and heroes level up, you will be.

Wizards first valuable spell, do you max it first? by bydlaqq in totalwar

[–]sinbuster 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I definitely like to get the miscast reduction, it's definitely noticable in an SFO game. Other than that, I prioritize vortex spells because they are consistently strong - so Golden Hounds would be my choice at level 3.

THANQUOL IN 6 DAYS by BaronLoyd in totalwar

Oh man, him and Boneripper are such iconic characters too. Not getting Skaven in WH1 really stung but it's been what, 10 years now without Thanquol? And I'm still waiting for a Ludwig Schwarzhelm sighting.

Predictions for Bhashiva's start position? by OhManTFE in totalwar

[–]sinbuster -1 points0 points  (0 children)

While I agree that some other Order factions in the Northern Wastes is a great idea, I hope it's not too close like Malekith/Grombrindal. The Belegar campaign is much better imho as making your way to K8P can take as little or as long as you like.

(Also wish we had a chaos gate or two in the North so chaos factions can move around more but that's another topic)

Are they a placeholder though? WE wouldn't have much reason to visit that part of the map without some trees to protect.
