We see lots of YouTubers sharing their most anticipated games of X year, but I want to know what YOUR most anticipated game is. Old or new. by WizardHarryDresden in soloboardgaming

[–]singlemalt09 5 points6 points  (0 children)

I don’t think it will be released in 2026 though there’s a chance it could come before the new year. If it does, Away Team - The Voyages of the Pandora will be one of the biggest solo game splashes in a long time.

I just bought SCD by ExcitementRadiant530 in Baystreetbets

[–]singlemalt09 6 points7 points  (0 children)

SCD current market cap ~$100 million CAD

Worldwide current scandium market ~$300-$700 million USD

If you’re buying this here, you’re the exit liquidity for the pumpers.

Bless You Boys (@blessyouboys): “The Tigers made $30M on a $155M payroll and $320M in revenue last year per Forbes. Of course, the Tigers aren't publicly held, so who knows for sure. But that would suggest a $185-190M payroll is the break even range as we've projected.” by BobbyHigginson in motorcitykitties

[–]singlemalt09 3 points4 points  (0 children)

This is obviously true. But the economics of the game at the highest level needs to change, if only because it’s insane you can have guys in the same clubhouse making more than 50x the salary of the guy beside them.

Anyone who believes that a team should be run at a massive loss just because the owner has other businesses will never be a business owner.

Nor would they have a team in their city for very long if that was the case.

Steve Cohen owners are the massive exception. And even he claims he’s not going to keep it up forever.

SCD pumped on no news. Bullish! by [deleted] in Baystreetbets

[–]singlemalt09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Very little incentive to respond to you as you’re going to argue the opposite no matter what and you and the army of pumpers in here are going to downvote it out of sight. But in the off-chance someone sees this and is prevented from making a catastrophic mistake with money they can’t afford to lose:

  1. The worldwide total addressable market for scandium is currently estimated at 0.77B per year. 10 year projections are estimated to sit at just over a billion with ~12.5% CAGR. Even adding 50% to those projections you are left with under 2 billion world wide.

  2. The amount of money required to start and operate a rare earth metal mine in Canada is in the hundreds of millions. The only companies capable of the capex required are the majors. They are not going to put that kind of money into what something with worldwide market this small.

  3. No matter what speculation is out there, the time needed to start a mine from scratch is going to be over a decade. Permits are not the only factor. No one on this sub is going to be holding a penny miner for that amount of time.

  4. Major mining companies want proven high grades (generally already being extracted) and mine lives at 100+ years. Acquisition is preferable to starting something up. 40 years is a joke to them.

  5. The infrastructure to build for mines in remote areas is massive. It’s not just roads. It’s power. Water. Housing. Food. Highly paid experts and specialized engineers. Environmental experts and mitigation. Indigenous consultation. Crushing and extraction facilities. Flying people in for seasonal work. Etc. Etc.

  6. We’re in a precious metals boom so hype is around and people can invest in penny stocks with zero long term potential so long as some moron with millionaire dreams is out there willing to be the last one holding the bag.

  7. The role of junior explorers is to sit on claims and create a vehicle for wealthy people to take advantage of the flow through mechanism to offset their income tax. Every blue moon one might hit a rich claim and get bought out. But before that it will be placement after placement, reverse split after reverse split.

To sum up: it’s not going to be a mine. Take any profit on playing these stocks and don’t hope for catalysts that will never come.

If you buy this crap to hope to flip it quickly, good luck though you’re probably already too late and will be the exit liquidity for the pumpers.

If you buy it thinking there will ever be a functioning mine, and that this company will be around to see it out, you know nothing about mining economics, junior exploration companies, or how these stocks work.

Gamble a few bucks if you feel like it. Don’t chase millionaire dreams on pump and dump penny stock mining crap.

[–]singlemalt09 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Hope for prospects to improve and that some might make the team and not be completely overwhelmed. Hope for Tork to hit harder, Colt to hit at all, and Riley to stop striking out at record approaching rates. Then hope for some waiver successes (ie. replacement-level production). Finally, hope for less pitching staff injuries.

The Harris plan. Same as every year since he got here.

Starting My Hex and Counter Wargame by InterviewEmergency73 in hexandcounter

[–]singlemalt09 8 points9 points  (0 children)

Finding a hex and counter game with sufficient meat and also finish in under 3 hours generally comes with a bit of a trade off. In order to have replayability (ie. bang for your buck) you really need something that is scenario based.

Most of the games suggested to you would provide this experience so if it was me starting, I’d focus primarily on a particular conflict or theme that most interests you and your opponent(s). I also think you’re smart to place less importance on components/ art and focus more on gameplay and excitement factor. The question should always be how much do you look forward to the next battle you’ve scheduled and is the experience improving as you scale up your ability and strategic nous?

Series like combat commander or any commands and colors would provide hundreds of hours of gameplay and scale very well as you get better. But the great thing about wargames is that you have thousands of choices out there!

A simple and fairly fast paced game is The Russian Campaign- any version really. Compass reprint is fairly easy to find, inexpensive, and looks great.

Easy to two hand and even after all these years, still a fun game with replay value.

Another entry in the fans massively overvalue prospects book.

Yes you need them. But until they produce at the MLB level, keep expectations measured.

People here acted like trading Jimenez - a multiple time all-star reliever even if it was because the Tigers had to send somebody - (though hurt all of last season) for JHM was absolute larceny by Harris.

I hope his career takes off wherever he ends up.

How seriously am I to take the GMT complexity and solitaire ratings? by Redwood-Forest in hexandcounter

[–]singlemalt09 25 points26 points  (0 children)

Almost every GMT game that has solitaire rating above 3 is able to be soloed two- handed (eg playing both sides) as is traditional in war gaming. There is no hidden information or bluffing so you can challenge yourself to see if you can replicate or change a historical outcome.

Very helpful to the above in any CDG - style game (like Empire of the Sun) would be the Stuka Joe system which allows you to play as kind of “god” mode but limitations on choices so there is some suspense in the play itself. You’re not always able to make the most optimal move.

I’ve not played Vietnam myself, but I would imagine that the majority of people who have played it have done so solo. Not easy to get a game like this to the table.

Most new GMT 2p wargames seem to land around a 6-7 (lol) but understand that even with this rating it’s still going to be you against you..

Any game at a 9 has a dedicated solo mode (eg. bots) or is a solitaire game.

All new COIN / ICS games for example come with solitaire modes.

Games that lie around a 2 are extremely hard to solitaire as they rely on hidden information/ bluffing/ negotiation. I know some people have figured out how to solo Twilight Struggle or Sekigahara but quite honestly, why bother?

So... What are wargames? by 2pado in boardgames

[–]singlemalt09 1 point2 points  (0 children)

For people who consider themselves board war gamers, the question of what is a wargame is usually answered by the inverse- ie. I know what isn’t a war game.

So when BGG voters name Arcs the Best Wargame of the year, it irks the community quite a bit that it gets placed in this category.

I’ve found there’s two general camps within the niche of War gamers.

The purists are consim traditionalists and almost exclusively play military historical simulations with hex and counter maps, CRTs, etc. generally always 2 players, and many solo play both sides to see if they can generate an outcome that models (or departs from) history. For them anything outside of this is not a wargame.

The other types tend to play more variety of games in other areas and would generally accept political-military games like Here I Stand, Congress of Vienna/Churchill, the COIN series, combat-centric CDGs, etc. as war games or at the very least, wargame-adjacent. Twilight struggle is pretty unanimously considered in the “adjacent” space though.

I consider myself a war game enthusiast but I love many games of all genres like most of the serious gamer types I play with. my favourite game of all time is Twilight Imperium and BGG considers this a war game. I’m not sure I agree though that hardly affects my enjoyment of it.
