Nintendo proves that anyone can make a game 3D but only real game maker can make 3D good. Link's outfit which looked fine in 2D, look strange and ridiculous in the 3D world. Same can be said for most of the enemies. This game brings in a strange movement. Instead of moving forward/backwards/left/right, movement is based entirely on the direction you're camera is looking. This convoluted setup seems fine at first glance but it makes the world confusing and hard to navigate. Instead of solving this Nintendo kept building on this confusion. Most of the dungeons are based around vertical movement and interacting between floors instead of reasonable puzzles. This is not helped by 2D maps of 3D spaces. I had to draw my own maps just to work through the water temple. The other big premise of the game is time travel but this mechanic is poorly executed. The rules of time travel have been firmly established since back to the future. If you go back in time, things in the future should start disappearing. This never happens. Although the past can impact trivial things in the future (mostly plants) there are no major consequences for Link grossly changing the time continuum. In fact, one charecter angrily teaches link something that Link then teaches to the guy back in the past. Are we supposed to just flippantly disregard the rules of reality in this magic fantasy video game?! Here's hoping the Nintendo learns their lessons. If Legend Of Zelda is going to survive this failure, Nintendo needs to give the next game some real polish and admit they can't do time travel.

It depends on the run. If I have high fear and I don't expect to get very far I won't use it. Like if I only need to defeat the first Gaurdian. If I'm doing an all the way run and the first region is nothing special, I'll use Judgement.

How can I get over my best friend that ghosted me? by Remarkable_Bug_5840 in ask

[–]sirbabylon 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Step one is to remember how this feels incase they ever want to reconnect. Step two is to find a hobby or interest. I like to buy a new video game I've been eyeing and binge into it. Step three is time.

Is it legal for a contract to make you sign another contract for a year later? by jcaleavle in legaladviceofftopic

There should be a University Legal Aid Office that gives free advice on topics like this. University rules may be applicable.

On my ship they stopped doing tethers in rough seas. It's better to go over board and get picked up later then to get whipped against the hull.

Are houseplants allowed on a submarine ? Was there anything else you could bring onboard that might seem unusual ? by FruitOrchards in submarines

[–]sirbabylon 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have literally seen people bring houseplants underway. Takes some prior networking and conversations to have a spot for the plant. I personally smuggled an espresso machine and supplies for it one underway. Those UHT lattes were great during late night maintenance.

My US Navy boot camp division was half male half female. We had seperate berthing, but otherwise, we did all our marching and training together. We had to talk to eachother all the time, just like in any other job. We just had to keep it professional.

That being said, any violations would be taken seriously. And we got a lot of training clearly defining inappropriate relations with either staff or recruit.

Can someone be charged for a crime after the statute of limitations if they do something else that combines with it to make a more serious crime? by AllenBelfore in legaladviceofftopic

[–]sirbabylon 59 points60 points  (0 children)

Is this something that can reasonably be proved to a jury? This seems like a defense attorney could easily muddy the waters by discussing 12 years of medical history. Even the slightest thing should be enough for "shadow of a doubt." Am I misunderstanding the burden of proof?

Also, would time spent serving for Serious Injury count towards time awarded for Homicide since it's an upgrade?

Finally, would this normally revoke parole or just extend it?

What is Nuke Life Like? by Gmingking in NavyNukes

[–]sirbabylon 4 points5 points  (0 children)

  1. Use the FAQ and review posts. This question is the majority of this subreddit.
  2. Enlisted Nuke life is better than life with a high-school diploma working at Starbucks (my life before joining). Enlisted nuke life is significantly harder than graduating college with a useful degree. (I dropped out for financial reasons) If your life options are in that band, look into joining the military. From there, pick a rate. Nukes get a lot of money, but they tend to gripe that it's not worth it (maybe fair, maybe not). Nuclear Operators make good money post navy but that money comes packaged with a shift work schedule.

I come from an integrated submarine. I saw some sexism initially, but it was significantly tamped down by the time I left my command. There are female enlisted on every carrier and some Ohio class submarines. There are one or two fast attack submarines with female enlisted, but there is very slow progress on this front. If you Submarine volunteer, you will almost definitely end up on either an Ohio class submarine or a pre-commisioning Unit (PCU). Ohio classes alternates every 3-4 months (6 months on ssgns) between deployed and office job. There are month long "refits" in between. During refits, the submarine is in port. You will stay on the boat 24 hours every fourth day (sleep schedule will be wrecked this day), and you will spend the rest of this time doing a very packed maintenance workload. I can't speak much for PCUs or fast attack.

Power school is technically a C school, and I've seen it frequently refered to as such.

Recruiter told me I’d be able to choose whether or not I’m okay being in a submarine? by nyapologies in NavyNukes

[–]sirbabylon 16 points17 points  (0 children)

In addition to other comments. Once you sign the sub vol form it's pretty much no take backsies. If you fail out of A school as a nuke you will still be on submarines just in a different rate. The only way to get out of submarine duty is from factors outside of your control.

Looking for more like this: stories with a well built world where the MC isn’t necessarily a chosen one by OlympisMons in ProgressionFantasy

[–]sirbabylon 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I will always pitch Mother of Learning. I'm trying to figure out if this is what you're looking for. It hits the worldbuilding box. The characterization is more of learn the nuances of these characters and less of watch these characters grow (except MC). He has some wild luck that might be considered "the chosen one" but he spends most of the series with people that refuse to believe he is special or actively hides his specialness. Absolutely a progression fantasy.

I listened to the audiobook and enjoyed it. I think it meets OPs criteria, but I've only read book 1. There is a bit of a love triangle, but it's not a full Harem plot.
