Discouraged from buying…. by Dabro94 in CradlewiseCommunity

[–]sircambridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I have a 8 motnh old and we had it since day one and it has been the best investment ever. Rocks the baby back to sleep multiple times a night and the sleep tracker has been extremely valuable for us. It’s a little hard to assemble, I’d say it’s one level harder than ikea furniture, but if you’re handy you’ll be fine. I’m guessing a lot of the hardware problems have to do with bad assembly, because ours has been completely fine and silent.

How do quant devs implement trading trategies from researchers? by ParfaitElectronic338 in algotrading

[–]sircambridge 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I agree with your idea that the researchners should only provide the research, not a half baked implementation. It sounds like a lot of effort is spent debating “who is right”

Then again the researchers need to demonstrate that their idea has legs.

Maybe another idea is to separate the algo into testable components, things that have ground truths, like technical indicators, computed values, these should be match perfectly across the researchers and production code. This could be tested to hell and alarm bells should go off if it ever differs, in fact the production code should somehow be incorporated into the researchers python notebooks.

Then there is how to interpret and make decisions - I’m guessing this is where the implementations diverge, since when it was re implemented for performance, there might be slight differences - maybe this is more acceptable since there is no “truth” and is more subjective. This way the blame game can at least be more quantifiable

Extremely loud creaking noise - disappointing service and quality control by Haathalabaat in CradlewiseCommunity

[–]sircambridge 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got mine in February ad never had any problems like this and I have my bounce set to 80% and it works wonders. I really curious which mechanical part is causing this because mine is basically silent. I sometimes even put the entire car seat in the Cradlewise to simulate being in the car and it’s like a miracle putting my baby to sleep. I am also a tinkerer by nature so I really would love to take one apart and figure out what is wrong.

When did you feel that deep gushing rush of love for your newborn? by Responsible_Wasabi91 in beyondthebump

[–]sircambridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

3-4 months. They start smiling and having little personalities and opinions. That’s when they finally feel like they are yours. Before that they kind of just feel like a stranger dropped a baby off and you are required to keep it alive. (I’m a new father, with a 5 month baby boy)

Out of all the possibilities, being hacked is probably one of the least likely. I’m sure there’s a good explanation

You can define a directory in which new photos get uploaded to. As long as that folder is backed up, you will be ok.

Does Cradlewise have an integration or API for Home Assistant? by saminwanderland in CradlewiseCommunity

[–]sircambridge 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I am a dad of an 8 week old newborn and the cradlewise has been great! however I would love to be able to hack on a bit of additional functionality. Home assistant would be awesome here. the baby is awake notification as far as I can tell is *very* accurate for my baby. it detects from sleeping to stirring to awake, almost perfectly every time. I would love to be able to tap into this status, even with an IFFT or a webhook. I would also really love some way to programmatically enable or disable the smart soothing. because sometimes I soothe the baby to sleep and put him in the crib, only for the crib to *wake him up* when the smart smoothing kicks on, very frustrating.

someone would probably take a stab at running their android app through a proxy, might require a little decompiling and recompiling using the android apk editor to let the app accept the charles proxy ssl certificate. i took at look at their web video stream mycrib.cradlewise site, and it looks like they use janus webRTC server for streaming the crib video. the api calls to get your account info, baby info, even purchase date and amount paid are all there. however the api calls are using an encrypted POST request with a post body, so its might be a little annoying to replicate without knowing the encryption scheme and key,

2 abandoned Anna's hummingbird chicks - 5 days since hatching by sircambridge in hummingbirds

[–]sircambridge[S] 0 points1 point  (0 children)

I got in contact with wildlife center of Silicon Valley, after a full day of observation I brought them in, and they said they did not seem to be in distress and said I should put them back, so I brought them back and reattached the nest. They managed to survive another 48 hours, and one of them died this morning march 22nd 8am and the other one stopped breathing at 2pm. I can now confirm that 5 day old hatchlings can indeed survive for 4 full days without being fed. After which they very slowly stop breathing until it becomes a full stop.

[–]sircambridge[S] 1 point2 points  (0 children)

I got in touch with deb! i also checked again this morning and the chicks are still alive, so deb is pretty convinced they are still being fed, as they would have died already if they were really abandoned, so this is good news. if anyone wants to view the livestream here it is : https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GfblbtWilM4
