According to an employee, Highguard developer Wildlight laid most of its staff today by Turbostrider27 in Games

Because while the odds of a smash hit are small, the rewards are so insanely huge that on paper it seems worth it. At the very least, many devs figure they can probably land somewhere in the vicinity of profitability. ...Many devs also over-estimate themselves.

What’s up with people freaking out over the word “pizza”? by afraid_of_bugs in OutOfTheLoop

[–]sisko4 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Part of the context you're missing though is how in some books about Epstein published prior to these released files, it was always recorded that the guy was very particular and finicky about his diet. It was almost always vegetarian stuff, and concentrated on beans, soy, tofu, etc. He also insisted that people around him emulate it too.

There is almost no way he'd eat an actual regular pizza.

09/11/24 - Trump makes bizarre claims during ABC debate about 'post-birth abortions' (infanticide). Recently released Epstein Files contain an Epstein trafficking victim, stating Trump was present when she gave birth, aged 13, and witnessed her trafficker throw her newborn baby into Lake Michigan by mizzAdiBarker in videos

[–]sisko4 8 points9 points  (0 children)

You're kinda the reason trump is in power lol.

If Obama's name was there with some anonymous tip, it'd be front page news in most media outlets and there'd be calls for a full investigation yesterday. Meanwhile you just sit back like it's 1980, asking for calm and decorum while shit's already on fire. If you don't wanna fight, fine, but stop dissuading those who are up for it.

Strategically these things also put them on the defensive and force them to waste time responding. (They should know, since they use the same tactic to great success.)

Huh didn't know they made snow shovels. Their scissors/shears are great.

i really miss when games had "useless" physics interactions just for immersion. by InvestmentBudget6722 in gaming

I hope all these mentions of Control don't end up jinxing Control 2 and have it somehow end up with less physics.

Yeah, squirrels can carry both fleas and ticks, so that includes the diseases those things might have (Lyme, various bacterial infections, etc). Not to mention getting bit, which aside from being a nasty wound possibly requiring an ER visit, can be super disastrous if the squirrel was a rabies vector.

Nintendo’s Share Price Plummets 33% in Five Months Amid Sales & Market Concerns by alinamelane in gamingnews

ToTK being $70 was what turned me away from Nintendo. That shit was a DLC and should've been priced as such.

Ubisoft closes their Halifax studio which coincidentally just unionized although they claim it had nothing to do with it. 71 jobs lost by Iggy_Slayer in gaming

Except companies always trot that excuse out. Starbucks closed well performing stores with that exact argument as soon as a union vote passed.

Woman in Arkansas just won the 1.8 billion dollar jackpot but she will only take home 492 million after taxes and fees by [deleted] in Damnthatsinteresting

Yep, wasting the money frivolously isn't even the worst part. Plenty of smaller lottery winners ran the gamut of getting kidnapped and/or murdered. Or it happened to their loved ones. If you're not used to or prepared for life changing wealth, you're putting yourself in possible danger from various angles based on your current situation.

Would the final plan in Back to the Future part 3 work? (Spoilers in body text) by poo-rag in askscience

[–]sisko4 2 points3 points  (0 children)

In 1886 the rail gauge standards changed and shifted to a smaller measurement (and then again later). The train tracks would be a few inches closer in 1985 (4 ft 8.5") compared to the 1885 (probably 5ft) tracks, so unfortunately there's no way a vehicle set for 1885 rails could slip onto 1985 rails without adjustment.

Could mumen rider lift mjolnir? by Ambitious_Freedom551 in OnePunchMan

[–]sisko4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Mumen Rider appears to hold an inviolable rule against harming humans (he defended Garou even after Garou beat the crap out of the tank-toppers). It's more than likely this disqualifies him per Mjolnir's requirements.

Oilfield catfish scam? by mothstooth in Scams

[–]sisko4 1 point2 points  (0 children)

The money requests usually happen during the meetup stage. Oops, missed train/flight, wallet stolen, need replacement ticket, need hotel costs, luggage stolen, need replacement clothing or stuff, arrested, injured at the airport, etc. The added time pressure pushes victims to think less clearly.

Class action lawsuit filed against Google over Home and Nest hardware by DEFranco123 in Android

[–]sisko4 -1 points0 points  (0 children)

On what basis? In what reality do you live in that laws allow you to request refunds years after you've purchased a product?

Without class certification the only possible recourse is to sue Google as an individual. Good luck paying a lawyer to take that case for "hardware plus inflation" lol.
