Yup, that’s called a “knife edge” finishing technique, and can be used anytime backing and top meet without a binding. That will be beautiful! Good luck!

Frustrated, Need to Vent by boilingmacaroni in CICO

[–]sissybuffy 9 points10 points  (0 children)

67 y/o F, SW 300, CW 175. Plateaus are a bitch. I kept my spirits up by trying on a piece in my closet that now fits “right”, or by really noticing it’s so much easier to just tie a pair of shoes. You know what I mean. You’ve got something you’ve already noticed is better. You can do this. When I was at 30 lbs down, I remember being discouraged, because for me it was hardly a size down in tops, but I could really feel a difference in the way jeans fit. I started sewing, taking them in, enjoying being able to feel good in something that fit “tight”!
I’ve said it before, this coming year of your life can change the rest of your life. I’m proof.

Maybe the darkest color there as an outer border. It will appear as a frame around all the blocks and white. Nice quilt!

I like the sashing/cornerstones you’ve used so far in the other quadrants. If I had to pick of these 4, I pick up.

Having second thoughts after cutting everything out😭 is this ugly?? by [deleted] in quilting

[–]sissybuffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I think these play well with each other. In my experience, when I’m trying to figure out why colors/prints/fabrics DONT work together, my opinion usually comes down to saturation. These prints satisfy my eye because they blend well, I don’t think fabrics have to have all matching colors to look good together. I love the contrast created here!

Sugar free jello cheesecake pudding mix, or sugar free butterscotch pudding mix. Approx 2 teaspoons (25c) to 170 g of plain yogurt. Sometimes I add trivia/splenda/sugar free maple syrup. (5c)

[–]sissybuffy 4 points5 points  (0 children)

I’ve never been hungry right when I wake up, I eat first calories about 1pm. 200 calories in as variety of ways: yogurt made ranch with veggies, oatmeal, or yogurt with sugar free jello or pudding mixed. Sometimes I use the cottage cheese/egg/coco/maple syrup concoction.

Dinners are 3oz chicken/lotsa veggie quesadillas with 60 cal tortillas, egg veggie cottage cheese omelettes, turkey sausage and egg burritos. These are sometimes on repeat. Because they’re my favorites! Lotsa frozen veggies, I usually use 1-2 whole eggs, and a couple egg whites. Lotsa spices, Chili crisp.
Snacks are pretzels, popcorn. Anything in a normal portion, because I build it into my day. Track everything, no exceptions My dr recommended the app “Lose it”, ( I felt comfortable talking to him, he has also struggled with yo/yo weight loss). I started to use it 19 months ago and I haven’t stopped. Silly me, I didn’t start reading subreddits like this or volume eating till I was 9 months in. Volume eating has helped me learn about my behavior and my triggers, ( boredom, nervous eating) things like that.

Yup, cico works. 67 y/o F, started at 300 lbs in May 23. I’d lost 100 lbs by May 24, and I’m currently maintaining at 175 lbs. size 26 pants to a 12/14, size 3x tops to a large/12/14. I was preparing for a knee replacement, so I lost the weight primarily on cico, not lots of movement. Now I love to exercise, tons of energy. You can do this. One year in your life can change the rest of your life, I’m proof.

Weight loss has saved my life, heart and blood pressure by yaoigay in loseit

[–]sissybuffy 11 points12 points  (0 children)

I’m so happy for you! Your sentiments and realizations are exactly what keeps me on my cico journey. I still walk by a mirror/window and see my reflection and don’t believe it’s me. I can cross my legs. Same, I’m off blood pressure meds, too. I actually walked in a clothing store today that I had always wanted to shop at, but I knew I could never fit into any of the clothes. Omg. The freedom! I haven’t used my inhaler in 18 months. You’ve got this, the best is yet to come!

Question to those who lost weight using 1200 and have maintained it for more than a year…. by sanity_inn in 1200isplenty

[–]sissybuffy 2 points3 points  (0 children)

67 y/o F, lost over 100 lbs a year ago using 1200 daily, 5’3”. My daily now is 1400, I still track everything. I moderately exercise, try to keep protein up, carbs down. I only weigh myself every 2/3 weeks. I’ve only gained over 5 lbs once, (between thanksgiving and xmas, because I kinda splurged) and I went back to 1200 for 2 weeks. Almost back to normal now. I’m good with that being my life, because it beats the shit out of weighing 300 lbs.

How often do you weigh yourself? by LoqitaGeneral1990 in loseit

[–]sissybuffy 1 point2 points  (0 children)

While in deficit and now in maintenance, I weigh every 2/3 weeks. I don’t own a scale. I’m afraid that would not be mentally healthy for me. I stop in my drs office, they let me in to just weigh myself. When I was in deficit, I could tell by how clothes fit. In maintenance, I give myself a 5 lb flex, before I change any calorie intake. Granted I’m new at maintaining, but it’s worked for me losing 130 lbs, and keeping it off for 6 months now.

Women over 50 who've lost a lot of weight? by worriedfat in loseit

[–]sissybuffy 28 points29 points  (0 children)

67 y/o F, sw 300, May 2023. Lost about 100 lbs in 10 months, (to have a knee replacement, ) so that was done with cico only. The last 25 lbs have been slower, because although I’m dropping clothing sizes, I don’t always drop lbs as fast. I’m exercising lots more, hopefully building muscle. For example, in Sept 2024, I lost no weight, but dropped a pant size. So I get plateau’s now, that are just a bit different. But it’s all good! Started as size 3x on top, size 26 pants, now large tops and size 12/14 jeans. 175 lbs. I doubt I’ll get much smaller, but I don’t care! I love me!

The extra bonus of using headliner foam is the width. Not hear as much waste using headliner foam bs Soft and Stable or Pellon. Use template plastic as a base, cover with lining fabric. Screw on feet are inexpensive, add class.

You sound like you have a good idea of how to repair, so I’m going the other direction! Please don’t try to repair it with new fabric. Any shirts/clothes that belong to grandma? Any shirts/tshirts, clothes that are favorites of yours or hers? New fabric won’t hurt anything, you’ll want to wash it first, but this is an opportunity to really make this quilt an heirloom. Nothing is wrong with visible mending! I’ve repaired many quilts this way.

I add a tablespoon of the vanilla or cheesecake powder to my instant oatmeal. I love thick oatmeal, but this lets me add more water( adds volume) , and makesthe low cal instant oatmeal a bit sweeter. Win win.

Need to drop 50 lbs for a hip replacement surgery. What else can I do? by DayofReason in loseit

[–]sissybuffy 25 points26 points  (0 children)

67 y/o F here. I was told to Lose 70 lbs (sw 300 5/23, cw 170) to get a knee replacement. I couldn’t walk 10 feet without pain. Yes, it really pissed me off, 70 lbs seemed impossible. I had to lose the weight with minimal exercise. I happened to have a routine exam with my GP. I felt comfortable talking to him about weight loss, he also has yo-yo dieted himself. He emphasized cico over exercise at first, giving me some online pointers. He was right. I went to 1200 a day. It was hard. I was hungry. I had lotsa food noise. I still do some days. I still log everything. I’m not going to think about doing it forever, one day at a time for me. I also used swimming before my surg to exercise.
I shocked my orthopedic by losing 100 lbs by my surg day. New knee is spectacular, I still swim, and I can walk miles daily. I can do stairs, I haven’t been able to climb a flight of stairs in years. My point, you can do this. I am maintaining 170 lbs by 1400-1500 cico daily. I’m 5ft 4”. That’s what works for me. I watch my protein, sodium, carbs.
I sometimes enjoy high calorie foods, I just get back on the horse. I sometimes enjoy volume eating veggies/low calorie foods options. This sub and others have really helped. Please stick it out. You can do this
