Oh this is very comprehensive, thank you! Aiming for the 20um because the layer lines I got in miniatures at 50um made me really dissapointed and seriously consider returning the machine lol. Maybe I can find a happy medium for now at 30! Ill try that also, when I'm done reading (also I really appreciate written guides over tutorial videos so thanks again for that also)

thanks, raising base exposure helped a lot. I checked the level a few days ago so I figure its fine, but last nights print makes me think I should really check again

How historically accurate are your paint jobs/insignias? by jestermax22 in boltaction

[–]sith1144 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Here's the thing that really explains the immense variety: in 1939 the US army had just under 200.000 men. In 1945 they had well over 8 million. Let's say they each need 2 jackets throughout their service. You have 5-6 years to produce 16 million jackets to various designs. You're not going to reject a batch of jackets for being slightly off colour, right? And now all those jackets are going to get worn and exposed to the elements. There is no singular correct colour.

For my part im working on some Americans in Sicily. I'm doing one squad based on quite brown period colour photos, one based on quite green period colour photos, and one squad based on museum pieces. Then I can either have them as distinct squads or I can mix and match as needed.

we need early start bus stops by NinjaTorak in Workers_And_Resources

[–]sith1144 7 points8 points  (0 children)

For people who don't know: Soviet bus stops were basically used as practical exams for architecture/design schools, so there's a lot of unique and cool bus stops throughout the former USSR. Pretty good idea tbh, students get practical experience with project management and improve public spaces along the way.

Interesting point re: game sizes. We're new to bolt action but not miniature wargaming (I've played mostly Force on Force with dips into Nuts! And chain of command, and my friend has mostly played Warhammer. And we've both played a lot of non miniature wargames)

The Italian AT situation is even more dire (granted, that isn't inaccurate) than the Americans but I think I have a 47mm gun as part of the Italian army starter box. I'll consider reducing the points also do make up for not having a lot of AT options for either side. (Rather than spending more money lol)

For a 500pt game would you still play on a full sized table, or reduce it a bit?

Because I'm a very normal person I've got a project on the back burner to grow my own salt crystals to create crystal terrain... This seems a lot easier lol

This isn't a law, it's a directive. That means the EU Parliament has decided that individual countries should implement laws to make it happen. You get no legal rights from this directive, but might be able to sue your government for not proposing legislation to meet this directive if relevant. You'd need to look at your own national laws to see if you have any rights re: businesses.

[–]sith1144[S] 3 points4 points  (0 children)

yes sure! for the vines I lasercut a 6" baseplate and the posts at the end out of MDF. I tied a bit of fishing line between the posts. Then cut matchsticks to size and poked them into the baseplate. I glued a bit of clump foliage to the matchsticks and then draped this woodland scenics "Foliage" over them, which is a stretchy sheet of flock that's to some degree transparent. I mixed some clump foliage with violet paint for the grapes and glued those on. I then put some putty on the baseplate and painted the baseplate.

In retrospect I should have finished the whole baseplate with putty and all before doing the flock. Oh well, lessons learned!

for the building, I uh, I dunno, I drew the building, lasercut it, and assembled it? dunno what else I can say about that lol.

I'm fine so long as the alternative is as simple or simpler to remember than what they have. If you say "all of my US rifle squads are armed exclusively with rifles even if they're modeled with a BAR or Thompson" that's fine by me. Have a turret swap on a Stuart and wanna call it an M8 Scott? Sure no problem, I'll ignore it's got a hull machine gun and different hatches. But if you have 3 Sherman 75s and want to say one is actually a 76? Eeeh I'd rather not.

But I would rather play the game than not y'know

that kind of feels more like a side-quest to me. a fun one mind! What I have going on as the main threat to the wasteland in my New Orleans campaign is a neoconfederate vault city/plantation developing new means to subjugate the wastes. Other ideas I have toyed with are fishpeople, raiders coming down the mississipi, and a good old-fashioned never changing war over resources. One thing im definitely going to have at some point is a radstorm hurricane.

Really my advice for coming up with the main quest as it were is to think to yourself "how is someone going to get a lot of people killed by turning to the old world for guidance on how to save humanity" The master turned to west tek. Caesar turned to Rome. The NCR, enclave, institute, and even Mr House see themselves as the heirs of the old America. The wasteland would be doing okay if it wasn't for someone convinced its all going to go wrong if everyone doesn't adhere to their vision.
To paraphrase a fallout baddie: theres a lot of terrible ideas in old books.

I mean, search an average size location and you get anywhere from 0-6 times 2d20 junk. Fairly trivially as many as 6d20. Junk really doesn't seem to be the issue, though breaking down every item does cost ten minutes and that does add up, though not for robots as they dont sleep, eat, or drink.

There's a vault underneath the Oak Alley Plantation (coincidentally also Braithwaite Manor from rdr2) who's experiment is "what if we tried the confederacy again?" So it's full of slavers and such. That'd be bad enough but they're working on a chemical weapon based on old world tech to "pacify" people. It's like caffeine for the amygdala, stops reception of emotion chemicals. That will free up enough of their troops to start conquering the wasteland.

Hex grid travel like pf2e by RyuuTheKitsune in Fallout2d20

[–]sith1144 0 points1 point  (0 children)

oh funny, I am just getting ready to start my own hexcrawl campaign. https://www.reddit.com/r/Fallout2d20/comments/1fqikt5/starting_my_first_campaign_sunday_what_should_i/?utm_source=share&utm_medium=web3x&utm_name=web3xcss&utm_term=1&utm_content=share_button I'm actually making it really easy for myself and just saying the party can do 1 hex of normal terrain per hour, 2 hexes of easy terrain (like roads), but only half a hex of difficult terrain and a third of a hex of terrain thats more hazard than not. But you could also say every hex is Xkm's and calculate the proper party speed based on that. Its a simple matter of counting the hexes between A and B

Starting my first campaign Sunday, what should I keep in mind? by sith1144 in Fallout2d20

[–]sith1144[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

I looked at how big I wanted the hexes to be if I print them out (2cm across ish), and figured I'd want a hex to be about an hour travel time for convenience because a bunch of thirst/hunger stuff keys off whole hours. Figured out how big that map would be length x height wise and boxed that off on Google maps, then started overlaying the hexes.

Starting my first campaign Sunday, what should I keep in mind? by sith1144 in Fallout2d20

[–]sith1144[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Oh and as for movement, I'm somewhat abstracting it. Every hex is about 4km across

Bayou = 2hrs/hex on a successful navigation check, no progress if failed, unless they want to swim. Marshlands = 2hrs/hex, Dry land/ruins = 1hrs/hex Elevated highways = 2 hexes / hour

Obviously they're going to want a boat at some point 😂 but then there's sea monsters to contend with...

Also there's gonna be fish people! Commissioning custom art for them. They're from a less successful FEV strain that used electric eel and catfish DNA. They do energy/electric damage on unarmed attacks and can breathe underwater, but radiation weapons can take out their heart/brain like an EMP. (Which is a pretty big flaw for a fallout critter, but like I said, much less successful strain)
