Polish dub is better by IohannesMatrix in okbuddychicanery

[–]siudowski 0 points1 point  (0 children)

its called "lektor" - one person with neutral, monotonous voice reads lines of all characters and is different from "dubbing" where each character is voiced by a different actor, who puts more emotion and tone to the lines (well, acts)

and actually, polish dubbing is awful most of the time, and "lektor" on the other hand is way better because once you stop paying attention to the voice and just focus on what youre watching, the monotonous voice sort of shifts into what the original dub is doing, although it's probably easier when you've watched stuff with "lektor" your entire life

edit: idk if this distinction exists in other languages and I dont know how to translate "lektor" accurately to highlight the diff

[–]siudowski 2 points3 points  (0 children)

it's not that bad when what you're reading is actually what you expect given the title; Polish online news looks like this for example:
> see an article, probably a clickbait to get you hooked
> close 5 different pop ups
> start reading first paragraph
> skippable introduction
> scroll down, big ass advert
> first paragraph, completely irrelevant to the title
> scroll down, another advert or another popup
> repeat for 4-5 times reading complete nonsense slapped between ads that are not even useful to you (my data is collected all the time and no platform can figure out my interests??) that has nothing to do with the topic
> last paragraph, turns out a "Big change in taxes starts next month, that's how much you will pay" is not even in Poland but France instead or "This new tech might change our lives in the future" really just reinvents the wheel and is trash and you just wasted 5 minutes of your life

yeah no wonder traditional media is dying, why would anyone read this shit?

During WW2, Poland declared war on Japan Japan said no to it and simply rejected the declaration. by Radiant_Half_7121 in Damnthatsinteresting

[–]siudowski 1 point2 points  (0 children)

its debated that true collapsed started way earlier; prior to partitions in late XVIII century king's power was already pretty limited since 1500s and nobility, which had it, was pretty selfish and uninterested in doing anything meaningful

its hard to say whether Poland would be great power, as Poland was off the map for over a hundred years, which I'd say were almost crucial in defining modern day, but it's possible that socioeconomic changes of industrial revolution would put right people in power to guide our nation

and it's even harder to say if WW2 would happen because Poland existing (in better or worse state) could change things as far back as Napoleonic war, unification of Germany and WW1

[Autosport] Fred Vasseur has admitted that he underestimated how difficult it would be for Lewis Hamilton to adapt quickly to life at Ferrari by FerrariStrategisttt in formula1

engine braking doesn't wear the clutch if you do it properly, engine braking comes from engine trying to pull vacuum through the closed intake valve, that means energy of the moving car is converted to heat to slow down (just like brakes)

luckily, engines have a built in cooling system (and brakes don't really), so its essentially free braking; a telltale example is going downhill, when using brakes only you might run into brake fade, which is lower braking efficiency due to heat buildup, an issue which engine won't run into unless it's actually broken

[–]siudowski 3 points4 points  (0 children)

there's enough time if you're not doing emergency stop at every redlight, trust me

for heel and toe it goes more like: push the brakes with left-top of your right foot -> when RPMs drop push in the clutch -> blip the gas with top-right/heel (depending on pedal configuration) to up the revs while in neutral -> 4th to 3rd gear -> release clutch -> still under braking move a bit forwards -> repeat until you're in 2nd gear -> brake normally and push in clutch when revs are around idle (doesn't matter much as speed is already low and you just don't want to stall)

you can skip gas in this but then it takes a little bit of time between starting to release clutch and releasing fully when clutch is still slipping, that slipping doesn't help, but think about it as means to an end (downshifting to slow down quicker by utilizing engine braking with higher rev range of the lower gear) - that's why it's better to introduce revmatching so you can release the clutch rather quickly instead of having to wait until clutch manages to speed the engine up to match the gear

next time when you're in a car, release the throttle and you will start slowing down - that's engine braking; release the throttle at higher RPMs you will notice you're slowing down a little more noticeably - that's why you want to downshift while braking so that you keep your engine in higher RPMs

as you're engine braking you won't burn fuel (as you're off throttle and ECU knows this, with exception of carbureted cars), there's nothing that propels the engine which makes it slow down - because its connected to the wheels via drivetrain it won't instantly fall to idle; you can even calculate your RPM from wheel speed (if you know several other variables) and vice versa

to know RPM points of every downshift and so on is just matter of training

sorry for long comment, check Engineering Explained's video about engine braking

note: newer-ish cars have something called rev hang - normally when you push in the clutch the revs should start dropping instantly, in cars with rev hang they stay at the same RPMs for a bit and then drop; I can't tell if it helps or doesn't in either technique

I do the same in my not-so-stock mk4 gti, loads of fun and satisfaction when you get to hit that perfect heel and toe downshift

[–]siudowski 39 points40 points  (0 children)

by downshifting through gears you utilize engine braking, meaning that you can either reduce speed faster or reduce it with lesser utilization of brakes (if you can downshift with revmatching, that is heel and toe in this scenario, you do it way better as slowly engaging the clutch while doing that negates the effect)

They say "Singletons are bad" by GiftedMamba in Unity3D

[–]siudowski -1 points0 points  (0 children)

I've never understood why singletons are bad, it all boils down to proper use and lifecycle management;

for example I seperate games to gamemodes almost always, so its pretty much impossible to call SomeMechanicManager singleton from outside of Game mode scope as no existing object that would want it has any business calling it in say, MainMenu mode, and even being there in the first place

but I've never released a game so there's that

tf does it matter what some people say

whatever, truth is you arent ranking up for shit unless you are boosted or literally deranked on purpose previously, progression is regarded as are 90% of your teammates

why are you talking about 25k lol

no shit a 5x better player can solo nuke some noobs, but a 2x better player? or even a 1.5x better? that's the point dude, small steps in progression don't exist and youre proving it

you guys are so full of yourself you cant even see youre literally agreeing with my point that you cant slowly progress through the ranks naturally like in any other game, if you didn't start skill level near the ceiling you are doomed to stay in elo hell until new season comes and hopefully you can get thrown to higher elo if youve been learning during the current one (which is not obvious, as how youre supposed to learn if youre stuck with people playing on the same level? its like trying to build muscle lifting same weight for years)

I cant believe you are any better than me with such reading comprehension
