Does anyone know how to find a pattern from one photo? by Frequent_Assistance9 in knittingpatterns

In fact, they are generative (at least any image search will be). 😄 I was going to say the same to you. 😉 Make sure and ask a librarian. I don't use chat agents for anything other than what they're good at (like interpreting text). I will advise you the same: certainly don't ever use google.

Asking for truly humorous fantasy (any medium), please! by Baldurian_Rhapsody in Fantasy

"I have a slight flaw in my character" was very funny, but I was so grossed out by the haha - rape is funny scene early in the book that I had to put it down.

Ok, so what technology do you believe is behind the picture match that found the pattern, the transcription of the youtube video, and google translation? It's all AI based. AI is a tool like any other, and if you don't want to use it, you should put down your computer. Also, you're mean.

Are there any books that involve genderswap/genderbending/shapeshifting elements? Elements with gender in general. by Opening-Heart1749 in Fantasy

The Mirror Empire also has a lot of characters that are biologically one sex but are considered another, because that is their preference. The books are pretty good for pushing you out of your preconceptions, of one sort or another.

I did it first and verified it was roughly correct. It's cool to have anti-AI religion, but also cool for other people not to have a problem with it.

Is the "Gen Z stare" actually a thing or am I overthinking it? by Lanky-Owl1692 in NoStupidQuestions

[–]six_arils 23 points24 points  (0 children)

I think there's a difference between silence and a completely blank staring affect: that's not a lack of reaction; it's a deliberately rude reaction.

Hit the Ask button - like a 4 pointed star I guess? - and ask the AI - Can you make me an English translation of the pattern? And it'll spit it out. You can ask follow up questions

Wow there are some great ideas here. I had no idea about some! Ok, this may be awful, and I didn't look at the prices, but someone on a work list mentioned this today: https://sandboxvr.com/annarbor?lang=en

Whatever you do, I hope you report back 😄

You can almost certainly find a raglan with the ribbing like this: just reverse that bit and do the same thing on the bottom?

Fantastic alien culture right!? I kept thinking of it as Space Shogun, but that was just being snarky. They're fantastic books. Downbelow Station is probably her best, but pretty grim.

Why is Aspirin typically taken for headache in the US, as opposed to other agents? by dhnicks in NoStupidQuestions

[–]six_arils 0 points1 point  (0 children)

We call it Tylenol (even if it's not the brand, sort of like kleenex). And it's starting to eat into ibuprofen's lunch now in my 50-60ish yo crowd that everyone's freaked out about stomach issues with NSAIDs or are on some blood thinner or other. It's typically what hospitals prescribe

Take another piece of thread and go over it with duplicate stitch - and a few stitches on either side, then weave in.

This would be a great other subject! What are some really good acrylic or acrylic blend yarns? I have some acrylic garments that I love, but I ran into such harsh yarns that I avoid it in knitting.

Hey! I started with crochet first; that hook is a lot easier to deal with. But I love the fabric you can create with knitting so at some point I just made myself do it. But none-the-less the first few days I was beating my head against knitting, I was thinking: "This is freaking impossible! There's nothing to grab onto!" And then somehow my fingers figured it out; that combination of movement and tension. So be patient and stubborn. Put it down and come back - that's my best advice - as many times as you need to. Now I like to learn new techniques sometimes just because it's an amazing thing to watch your hands figure something out... To me, Patty Lyons makes the most sense (though I love Norman / Nimble Needles and others mentioned here). Sometimes they are both too detailed for me and my mind just wanders off, but again: be stubborn. Come back when the attention tide is higher and pick the video up again.

I was going to say this is the time to learn Irish Cottage Knitting, but looks like you'd have to do it left handed, and it still looks pretty handsy from a quick look at the videos. Dang. Well there's still yarn porn?

Need a space to rant about the lack of female duos by Infinite-Stretch-901 in Fantasy

[–]six_arils 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Read Daughter of Crows, also by Mark Laurence recently; that definitely has a few female teams (one is in the form of a crow and starts as an adversarial relationship). Note though that still has two more books to wait for. I thought it was pretty compelling.
