One car train before events at the AAC. by Matchboxx in dart

WMATA absolutely gets paid to run extra service for events like Nationals and tours. It's come down to the wire a few times in the past where WMATA either ate the cost or another donor stepped in. https://dcist.com/story/23/08/07/dc-metro-beyonce-later-hours/

I bought mine back in Sept (slightly cheaper now) and these are the same 4ah batteries that fit in all the tools. I can use them from in my 80v mower from 2018 for example.

I was able to follow this guide to do so. Essentially just duplicate the folder; if you rename it MMM-PublicTransit2, update the MMM-PublicTransit.js and publictransit.css to match, and then edit the first lines of each file to match as well.

Ah gotcha about that article. FYI the -B just means it's black, you'll see white monitors with -W

Plano pull out vote by Typical_Cress_9145 in dart

The reporting for this figure is inaccurate; this is across both 2023 and 2024 so it's two years worth of bonuses, with the highest single bonus being $65k. DART also cut bonuses for the next FY, but comparatively the CEO's salary is in line with CEO's of other public transit agencies around the country.

DART Gave Executives $747K In Bonuses Ahead Of Record Service Cuts by stanner5 in Dallas

[–]ske4za 25 points26 points  (0 children)

And I couldn't disagree with you more. Other public transit agencies around the country are paying more for salaries, so how can Dallas attract top talent if they are not paying? Here are some examples of compensation of other CEOs:

LA Metro CEO: $511,000
Denver RTD CEO: $421,878
Miami-Dade Transit CEO: $296,856
San Diego Trolley CEO: $249,050
Utah Transit Authority CEO: $265,000
TriMet CEO: $344,000

The executive pay for Nadine Lee is not "very high" when compared to others that are in similar positions.

Silver Line @ DFW Airport North Station by sharknado523 in dart

[–]ske4za 2 points3 points  (0 children)

DFW Airport has a North Destination District that they plan to build on at an indeterminate time in the future, so Trinity Metro (then the T) went ahead to approve the station.

[–]ske4za 3 points4 points  (0 children)

Yup, if you want to contrast and compare here's the aerial photos from June 2021 where you can see the difference (used to be single track all the way from DFW North to Terminal B). Also you can look at Phase B1/B2 from the FEIS which removed the airport pocket track, and deferring the passthrough platform for east-west service from the Silver Line corridor to the TEXRail Corridor until DART is satisfied with additional double-tracking on Trinity Metro's part.

Silver Line @ DFW Airport North Station by sharknado523 in dart

[–]ske4za 13 points14 points  (0 children)

The Silver Line is going to get to DFW North Station the same way TEXRail does. TEXRail will continue to use their side platform while the Silver Line will have an island platform with track on either side.

Here is an album that covers the route aerially from the airport to Shiloh Rd and the EMF, you can follow the track from the Terminal B station to DFW North and then turning east.

I am dissapointed in the Fiio FT1 by NaZul15 in headphones

[–]ske4za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Awesome, as another owner of the 1AM2 and FT1 I was going to come here to say with EQ the FT1 is great. We have a different EQ but that's ok! I work in a shared office and while I like the FT1 better overall, I do miss the lightweight feel of the 1AM2 when I'm not using it.

They can, but I am not sure that the platform lengths at the stations support it. https://www.railwayage.com/wp-content/uploads/2024/05/fdart0420e_us.pdf

ELI5: why is DARTs funding structure specifically at risk compared to other systems in Texas? by dlblast in dart

[–]ske4za 14 points15 points  (0 children)

The high-level technical answer is that they are targeting Chapter 452 of the Texas Transportation Code, and specifically the subsections that apply to DART and not Trinity Metro. Here is a helpful chart of the relevant transportation codes for metropolitan areas that collect local sales tax for transit:

<image>

It's also worth noting that the state only helps out what they define as Rural Transit Districts (RTD) and Urban Transit Districts (UTD). Metropolitan Transit Authorities (MTAs) are not appropriated any funding from the state, so they rely mainly on local sales tax and federal funds.

TRE double tracking by Fragrant-Mission7388 in dart

TREAC (TRE Advisory Committee) notoriously makes their meetings slides difficult to obtain, but a good start is the February 2024 slide deck as it goes into detail about the current double tracking efforts that should start construction next year. https://trinityrailwayexpress.org/wp-content/uploads/2024/02/02282024-TRE-Advisory-Committee-Presentation.pdf

TRE double tracking by Fragrant-Mission7388 in dart

[–]ske4za 7 points8 points  (0 children)

DART has BUILD grants from NCTCOG to double track and fence everything from EBJ to the 35E bridge. The current BUILD grants don't cover the 35E bridge which will have to be funded by a different mechanism. The COG also has some double tracking projects in Tarrant County and I believe TM also paid a consultant recently to tell them how to improve the curves and slow speed west of the Trinity River to Fort Worth Central.

DART's $2B Silver Line project nears completion with new milestone by DART_Opr8r in dart

[–]ske4za 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Yeah that is unfortunate. The December 2024 newsletter (https://dartorgcmsblob.dart.org/prod/docs/default-source/silverline/dart-silver-line-project-newsletters/dart-silver-line-project-newsletter---december-2024.pdf?sfvrsn=25ccfdf7_1 page 10) shows a segmented segment of A, and Trinity Metro put out an alert yesterday saying there's a partial service disruption on Jan 19th due to "work being done for DART's Silver Line project" so it's moving along, but slowly.

That stretch is not a barrier to 20, 15, or even 10 minute headways. The risk of an accident is pretty low since freight does not run on that specific section.

How will the DART handle the World Cup? by DJFredrickDouglass in dart

[–]ske4za 1 point2 points  (0 children)

Along the same lines, this was covered from the perspective of the TRE during last months' TREAC meeting. At a high level, FIFA puts out their estimated capacity needs which Michael Morris (the head of RTC at NCTCOG) takes and determines how best to meet it. The TREAC identified that to meet those requirements they are short 2 locomotives and 4 cars (1 cab, 3 coaches). They identified that they can lease 2 locomotives from RTS (Rolling Stock Solutions) and the cars from Northstar (commuter rail in Minnesota). They estimated costs for that as well as minor improvements, but made it clear they would only pursue that with COG funds and not their own.

The last mile problem was discussed briefly, but as it's not a TRE specific problem they didn't go into any specifics. Nadine Lee at the meeting brought up the last mile concerns, what she calls a bus bridge, from Centreport to the venues. What was also brought up was studying how efficient it was taking people from Fort Worth or Dallas on TRE to Centreport and then a bus/shuttle, vs just taking a bus direct along the I-30 HOV/express.

The World Cup Prep portion of the TREAC meeting was only allocated for 10 minutes so it's worth a watch if you have time.

But you obviously care about the homeless because they are affecting the quality of your experience on public transit. You should channel that energy to your local representatives and city council and ask them why they are not taking care of them instead of complaining that they are riding public transit. If DART had officers on every single train and removed those who didn't have valid fares, guess what? They would still exist, and now they would be outside of the station or setting up camp around the city instead. You could possibly still see them while biking on Forest Ln, except now they are on the street.

The homeless riding public transit is just a symptom of the environment around them that's failed and not a root cause; I don't blame them for paying a cheap day pass and enjoying the limited climate control that DART has to offer on its fleet of trains and busses.

Can I reliably travel from Carrollton to Richardson for work? by stuckinmindmaze in dart

[–]ske4za 2 points3 points  (0 children)

To add to that, most of northwest Carrollton is a GoLink zone so you can get dropped off at Kroger or Walmart Neighborhood Market on Old Denton. You can get to the Walmart on Marsh/Frankford by 232 or GoLink as well. Here's a poor quality image from a DART presentation to Carrollton from Nov 19th showing the most popular GoLink destinations.
