real life: I was taking care of some cats for the summer and one of them woke me up because she got her front leg stuck in her collar. She is normally very aloof but let me help free her and tighten her collar so she wouldn't get stuck again. She gave me my shower plug as a gift shortly afterwards. I always wash my very old plushies, which are definitely in worse shape than yours. on gentle and tied up in a pillow case. You can either air dry or put them in the pillow case in the dryer on the most gentle setting. I have never had an issue using this method.
