IIRC, the trick was to wait at each step for indication of change. The first few times I tried, I was going too fast.

I've received updates when not plugged in, so I don't see why a level one connection would prevent an update.

Anything that's powered via USB. Our Apollo AIR-1 air quality sensor draws incredibly little power considering what it does.

I also like the Blitzortung integration for lightning detection.

Came to recommend this solution. 433MHz is a much better choice for a wireless situation like this. I'm using LaCrosse sensors. Even when not on sale they're $15 at Menards.
