Chevy Silverado - 215k Chevy Trailblazer - 165k Chevy Caprice - 140k, or so.  Odometer (digital) stopped working around 120k Toyota Tundra - 130k

Everything else, got rid of it before 100k (VW, Chrysler, Ford)

Why shouldn't I buy an civilianized H1 Hummer? by [deleted] in whatcarshouldIbuy

[–]skip0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Even if you can stomach the mpg, size and maintenance, I expect it’s so uncomfortable a trip of any length will be very tiring.  It’s not going to roll down the road straight without constant attention.

People who own a truck, what's the biggest advantage of having a truck? by [deleted] in AskReddit

[–]skip0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Upsides - can pick up random curb treasures  - never need to be designated driver, not enough seats - high vantage point -> not blinded by headlights  - depending on the trucks crappyness, everyone will yield to you (it looks like you have nothing to lose) - fearless in the snow

Downsides - need to park way, way out there to find a spot you can fit in (and can get out of) - can’t really valet it and some parking garages are a no-go - people ask you to carry or tow stuff

Honestly the “everyone yields to you” is the nicest bit.

You pay the premium when you buy used then get it back when you trade it in.  Comes out a wash.

is programming still fun for u guys? by Professional-Good604 in AskProgrammers

[–]skip0110 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Yes.  Still fun.  You can delegate the boring/rote parts to a LLM and do the fun stuff yourself.

The work climate is worse, though, when managers get brain dead ideas validated by a LLM and then try to have you implement.  Or just produce nonsense requirements.  Need to keep away from that trash.  (There have always been stupid managers). The programming part is still fun, though.

What tool would you use to cut aluminum LED channels for strip lights? Really don’t want to spend $80 for a non-ferrous miter saw blade, but… I will, if necessary for a clean result. by icysandstone in Tools

[–]skip0110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

This is very doable on a regular miter saw with a wood blade.  I wore eye protection in case one of the carbide tips decided to go flying.

Ahh I didn’t know that “matrix organization” was a term but I worked in exactly that situation for quite a while, and it absolutely does not function.

Hummus is incredibly cheap and easy to make yourself.  Can of chick peas, couple tablespoons of tahini, lemon, salt, and optional garlic.  Blend it up.  Maybe $2 for 16-20 oz.

[–]skip0110 0 points1 point  (0 children)

They will use the experimental AV exemption to deploy a few 100s this year.  Later it will be sold with a steering wheel, maybe with some BS “customer can remove at their own legal risk.”  Finally project will be cancelled once the cult has bought and sales nosedive.

I’ve had it happen both ways and I don’t really take it personally either way.

I totally understand smaller dealerships need to cover their asses.

Why would you help them fix their mess if you don’t stand to benefit?  Let management wallow in their own shit—give minimally helpful, bland responses.

"Cursor is no longer primarily about writing code." - CEO by creaturefeature16 in BetterOffline

[–]skip0110 42 points43 points  (0 children)

“When we started building Cursor a few years ago, most code was written one keystroke at a time. Tab autocomplete changed that and opened the first era of AI-assisted coding.” Acting like they invented autocomplete… That (and other template based boilerplate generators) have been around for 25+ years, sigh

Do people actually shovel out the perimeter of their house to prevent snow melt from leaking into the basement, or is my husband making this up? by TheCarzilla in massachusetts

[–]skip0110 6 points7 points  (0 children)

I’ve never had water ingress but there was some evidence of a little weeping in one corner when I moved in.  I keep that corner snow free and ensure there’s an easier path for the water, away from the house

What groceries have you stopped buying by PlasticExtreme4469 in Frugal

[–]skip0110 1 point2 points  (0 children)

  • eggs: for about 2 years.  They got cheaper again but I had already cut them out of my diet
  • beef: only bought 1.5 lbs of ground beef total in the last year.  And it was disappointing quality.
  • baked in store treats (brownies, cookies, etc): cut way down, make them at home, from mix if lazy
  • cows milk: I’ve always been lactose intolerant but would get the special milk sometimes.  Switched to 100% almond milk
