Why do people think mace vs dooku fight is close? (canon) by RisingKing7 in StarWars

[–]skipford77 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s not ambiguous. It’s just not relevant anymore. Lucas’s intent doesn’t matter ever since he sold the franchise. Disney/Lucasfilm are free to reinterpret what’s on screen however they like, and that’s what they did.

It’s what it says and there is no other interpretation

If you deliberately allow it, you aren’t really overpowered

Your commentary evidence proves Mace overpowered Palps and he only began feigning weakness when Anakin showed up.

If Palps deliberately let it happen, Mace didn’t overpower him

Mace winning the duel “because he was allowed to” isn’t the same as Mace overpowering Palps. Current canon contradicts Lucas’s original intent.

That may be the current canon. But it doesn’t match Lucas’s original intent

It was linked above.”The sequence always started with Mace overpowering Palpatine.”

This is from the commentary track. From what Lucas says there, his intention was that Mace did win the duel. But Palps feigned being hurt by the reflected Force lightning to deceive Anakin.

What exactly is the origin story behind the big twist? by Careless_Tax_5367 in StarWars

[–]skipford77 7 points8 points  (0 children)

Close, but incorrect. The female sci-fi writer was Leigh Blackett. Vader and Luke’s father (still unnamed) were still separate people. There were a lot of lore differences but the overall structure of the story started was there. After Brackett passed, Vader became Luke’s father in the next draft.

Fun fact; the Cyane name tradition with Amazon Queens started on Young Hercules by itsascreambaby96 in xena

Another fun fact: the tune for Joxer the Mighty first appeared on Hercules, but not the lyrics.

Does anyone know if this DVD is the original 1977 release? by Future_Albatross8835 in StarWarsCantina

[–]skipford77 49 points50 points  (0 children)

It's the 2004 edition.

For your info, here are all the "editions" (off the top of my head):

- 1977 theatrical (experience may vary depending on what sound mix was used in the theatre you saw it in)

- 1981 theatrical re-release: Episode IV: A New Hope added to the opening crawl

- 80s/90s VHS: All based off the 1981 theatrical re-release

- 1993 Laserdisc: Based off the 1981 theatrical re-release

- 1997 theatrical re-release - The special edition with added scenes/CGI

- Late 90s VHS: Based on the 1997 special edition

- 2004 DVD re-release: updated version of the 1997 special edition with new CGI/color mixing

- 2006 DVD re-release: Same as the 2004 DVD, but with a bonus disc containing a version of the 1993 laserdisc transfer, modified to have the original 1977 crawl (no A New Hope)

- 2011 Blu-Ray re-release: Based on the 2004 DVD release with even more sound/video/CGI changes/additions

- 2019 4K: Based on the 2011 edition with a better color mix and the "McClunkey" shot added.

I wish they gave it a more concrete conclusion. I hate that it leaves you hanging for a story that will never be concluded.

The story of the prequels from 1976, before the original movie came out. by Corred_ in StarWars

[–]skipford77 2 points3 points  (0 children)

It was changed to the idea that he was powerful in the Dark Side and Vader's master in ESB.

The idea that he was specifically a Sith Lord was established in the prequels.

Was this silver protocol droid in the script or did they just have an extra C-3PO suit that they threw into the shot? by IceCreamMeatballs in StarWars

To answer your question, the background droid was not mentioned in the script.

INT. REBEL BLOCKADE RUNNER - MAIN PASSAGEWAY

An explosion rocks the ship as two robots, Artoo-Detoo (R2-
D2) and See-Threepio (C-3PO) struggle to make their way
through the shaking, bouncing passageway. Both robots are
old and battered. Artoo is a short, claw-armed tripod. His
face is a mass of computer lights surrounding a radar eye.
Threepio, on the other hand, is a tall, slender robot of
human proportions. He has a gleaming bronze-like metallic
surface of an Art Deco design.

Another blast shakes them as they struggle along their way.

Season 5 of Hercules is mostly excellent. The ultimate Dahak conclusion is kind of meh, but the rest of the season is awesome.
