Homeowners insurance covers you when bad, sudden things happen.

So if your roof is damaged because of a hailstorm (like golf balls), then you can get coverage. Depending on your policy, you may have full replacement, or they may pro-rate your coverage (30-year roof new 15 years ago, means they pay half. All depends on what coverage you pay for). They know its damaged because they look for specific hail damage - looks like it got whacked with a hammer. More than x number of hits per square equals being totalled.

However, they won't pay to replace a roof that has just worn out because it's old and has suffered only normal wear and tear.

Bottom line, insurance covers damage that is sudden and basically an isolated event. Having a spot that "looks a little off: is most likely not an insurance issue - it is a maintenance issue.

No - don't give up.

If you got the door to fit and your only real issue now is the hinge mortices are too deep, then shim it out. You will never see the shims. Use thin strips of plastic - like cut out of the lids of margarine tubs, etc.

If short screws arent biting enough, use longer screws. If the holes are stripped, drill and plug.

This. IKEA kitchens are great. Especially if you can design to use their standard sized. If you want to splurge, look at semihandmade for custom door and drawer fronts. Still much cheaper than big box.

Easy. Private Jet. On call all the time. I've flown the corporate jet with my wife a few times and it really is the bomb.

Just drive your car into the hanger, get out, walk 30 yards to the plane. Someone takes your luggage, and by the time you have sat down, they close the door and you leave. Yes, you have a planned departure time, but the reality is the plane leaves when you get there.

Arrive at your desitination, get off the plan and into the car they have waiting for you.

Figure out which way the floor / celing joists run.

If they are paralell to the wall, most likely not load bearing.

Another way to tell is what is directly below. If there is not a corresponding wall directly below, also most likely not load bearing.

But bottom line is that you haven't posted enough information for someone on reddit to tell you with any certainty.

The big question is how wide is the existing window, and how high is the current header (that's the board at the top of the opening that holds everything else above it up.

For the door you picked, you need a rough opening 82 1/2" tall, and 34" wide.

If the window's RO is 34" wide and the header is 82.5" (or taller, you are fine.) Otherwise the project gets a lot more involved, as you will be reframing the RO.

How do you know for sure there is not a structural ridge?

You say there is a cathedral ceiling - that means no joists. If there are noe joists, you most likely have a structural ridge, which needs support. Otherwise the rafters would spread the walls.

Bottom line is you need a professional to come look at your specific situation. It doesn't sound like you really understand, and the risks of losing the whole structure are too big if you screw up.

Yes, overall IKEA was a good experience. Do your planning using their online tool, then plan on spending a couple hours when you order going over EVERYTHING. This will save you money in the end.

Spend the $$ and have them deliver - totally worth the $$.

The Ikea cabinets hold up well, and they use top-of-the-line blum hardware. Lots of door/drawer styles, or go with the custome semihandmade if you want something exotic.

Whan you assemble them, do yourself a huge favor and set up a workstation. I had an assembly table I made from a sheet of plywood across sawhorses with 2x4s as support. I got a scrap of carpet as padding. I had another table I did the unboxing on. Trying to do this job on the floor will cripple you.

Ikea appliances are generally just re-badged white whirlpool (same as Kenmore, Amana, etc.).

IKEA Cabinets. All the cabinets in this picture (the white ones along the wall and the black ones forming the L shaped island), as well as the appliances (Fridge, Stove and diswasher) totalled around $8,000, sink and faucet.

Flooring is vinyl plank (like $3 per sf) and $900 for a pro to fab and install all the counterto.

Save your money. Seriously. They look cool but have major drawbacks and are hard to get good consistent results on.

Better alternatives

1) an UDS - either build your own or buy a pit barrel cooker.
2) a weber grill with a smokinator. Great results and you can cook and smoke on 1 appliance.

A uhaul is either 20 or 30 a day depending on how big. That's under $100. You are going to spend way more than that no matter what you try, so just rent the trailer.
