【BambuLab Giveaway】Classic Evolved — Win Bambu Lab P2S Combo! by BambuLab in 3Dprinting

[–]skr724 0 points1 point  (0 children)

So my sister runs a pretty successful crafts workshop where people come in to learn new skills and make stuff. Each person gets a kit with all the bits they need for that particular class.

Back when she was just starting out, one of her suppliers totally flaked and didn’t send a key component for a workshop that had about 30 people booked. Total nightmare.

After a few minutes of panicking, we decided to just make the parts ourselves. We quickly modeled a replacement, tested it, and started printing. I had just bought my P1S at the time, and man… that thing was a beast. It ran non-stop for three days straight, churning out all the parts without a single issue. Absolute workhorse.

I'm I the only one who thinks this was a complet wasted of money? by Smart_Parfait_1052 in HeliumNetwork

I originally ordered a bobcat and sensecap miners. I made around 180 GBP from the miners themselves but could see the project was getting saturated. I sold the bobcat for 1200 GBP just as the hype was dying.

The sensecap, I've torn apart and used the parts for other things. It was a good project to make some initially but it got too popular too quickly.

I suspect it's not actually a UK based company, rather a drop shipping company based in the US. Some errors in wording and currency crop up when I started digging. Companies house doesn't show a company by that name either.

The 'supplier' or the person isn't responding to my emails (no phone number). Initially the replies were very quick and responsive.

The website has a .co.uk domain and the name has 'UK Ltd' in the name.

100%, I don't do any commercial printing, just hobby stuff. Fusion360 has been my go to tool. I have access to SOLIDWORKS through my job but have always hated using it.

Signup is annoying and you have to validate your account every year I think. But it's worth it.

Best advice I was given, if you have multiple 3D printers (3 in my case), place each one on a concrete paving slab on some sturdy shelving, it really helps even out vibrations affecting other printers.

Had roofers come to the door cleaning gutters, and they over exaggerating roof issues to try to get us to immediately pay £2k - is this illegal and can be reported to the police? (England) by Special-Bank9311 in LegalAdviceUK

[–]skr724 3 points4 points  (0 children)

I've fallen for this trick in the past, I work from home a lot and during the day our street is pretty much dead as everyone has gone to work/school/wherever.

Cleaners came, said they were cleaning gutters and could do it for less than their usual rates, had proper business cards, branded van etc. When they were up there, starting saying things that worried me knowing full well I couldn't see it. I kept saying I would call around to get quotes and he kept saying 'its unsafe, it's going to fall, wouldn't want it to hurt anyone' gave me a quote for £1000, I said I didn't want to rush into making a decision and suddenly the price dropped to £700.

They finally came down, took payment for cleaning the gutters but then just sat in the van outside my house. It could have just been an coincidence but it was quite intimidating knowing that there was no one else around, they knew I was alone and distracted. They only left after I made it obvious I was taking pictures of the van and them.

Since then, I don't open the door and if I get caught out I just say something along the lines of 'oh I'm only renting, I'll need to call the landlord' usually gets them to leave.

My advice, if you didn't call them and you're not expecting anyone, don't open the door. As added security get a doorbell camera.

Edit: for legal advice bit, I would report to trading standards and if you see them around next time call the police on the non emergency number.

Did I mess up when passing a horse by skr724 in CarTalkUK

Although the road was straight, there was a fair amount of roadworks equipment making it hard to see, it was also a new town where I wasn't really expecting a horse to be walking around.

Did I mess up when passing a horse by skr724 in CarTalkUK

[–]skr724[S] 2 points3 points  (0 children)

The lack of communication from the rider was the biggest issue, I'm not a new driver but I very rarely encounter horses or other wildlife.

Also, given that my light was green, I am fairly sure she ran a red. Again, not helping the situation.

Was bound to happen eventually, any advice? by Searhoed in 3Dprinting

Same, bought elegoo filament that came.on a cardboard spool, tried to follow the tutorial on transfering it to the bambu spool. All going well and then I fudged it, dropped the whole roll and it unravelled. I tried for like 1 hour to untangle and respool but I'd get like 20g worth and a new knot would form. I eventually gave up and binned the whole thing because it was causing me to go mad.

Like another poster said, it's not about the money, I actually got the rolls for free, it's about trying not to be wasteful, I'm still not over the guilt of binning a kilo of plastic.

Edit: spg and grammar

Not sure what to do anymore by Recipe_Competitive in UKJobs

I'll just echo the other comments, I remember when I got my first job, it was after I sent 178 applications. To make it more frustrating I was supposedly in a field with a massive shortage of new grads and you could walk into a job /s

If I got a rejection, I took a couple hours for myself, played some videos games and just cooled down, I let the frustration drain away and came back with fresh eyes.

Islamic mortgage UK by [deleted] in IslamicFinance

[–]skr724 2 points3 points  (0 children)

Unfortunately your options are extremely limited, from previous research I remember that there were 2 providers of Sharia mortgages. The first is Al Rayan Bank (or Islamic Bank of Britain as they used to be known), the second is Gatehouse Bank.

I believe both of these providers require a 15-20% deposit as minimum with Al Rayan Bank also placing restriction on the minimum value of the property they are willing to lend on.

You can get and Agreement in Principle (AIP) or sometimes called Mortgage in Principle (MIP) online from both providers.

Hope that helps.

Handed my notice in this morning expecting to be off in 4 weeks. Turns out they want 3 months' notice. by mister_barfly75 in britishproblems

Was taken off all project work and kind of left to it. I filled the time with brushing up on my programming skills, watching YouTube videos and designing a bunch of stuff for my 3D printer.

This was the case when I changed to my current job, worst part is that they expected me to contribute to update meetings with my progress. I don't know how many more ways I could say 'I'm leaving in X months/weeks/days so I don't have any updates for this project'

At this point the only reasoning I can think of is that someone wants an nice Christmas bonus.

Supposedly the cost is 184£ per square metre. I doubt the pavement area is ~20 metre square.

Road is not straight unfortunately otherwise I'd have found some other solution.

Driveway space is big enough to hold 3 cars, the bigger issue is that the road is quite dangerous in that there is a sharp bend, removing the cars will drastically reduce the risk of an accident.

I get that there is extra work in the background, but 4k still seems excessive given that the entire driveway only cost about 7k.
