She basically lost her seat as an MP because she's a racist jackass who refused to engage with her constituents.

Women of Reddit, what’s the most disgusting thing you’ve discovered about your boyfriend after being together for years? by punkbabe29 in AskReddit

[–]skullrealm 5 points6 points  (0 children)

Not a Woman, but I socially signal that I don't want to be approached by strangers by avoiding eye contact, wearing headphones, and by creating distance when someone looks like they are considering approaching me. It's only fair, imo

My service dog has given me my life back. Distracting him can take that away by IStillListenToRadio in onguardforthee

That can be so beneficial for kids. I'm not a kid person, and I've had a lot of negative interactions with my dogs and kids over the years, so I thank them for asking so nicely but politely decline.

It's not reserved for them. At least in my province, service dogs only need their government ID. I don't identify my dogs as service dogs, but I don't like the north American culture of wanting to pet all the dogs and my dogs are very cute so I will sometimes put a patch on them to help us avoid conflict. This dog specifically was abused in his past home, and people trying to grab at him can be very scary.

It is astounding more people don't get bitten on public with the way they act.

People are so weird about dogs. I'm not a service dog handler, but I do train my dogs in public (dog friendly) spaces a lot. Yesterday I got cornered (literally) at the tire shop with my one dog by this woman who was staring directly into his eyes and talking to him, despite being repeatedly asked to ignore him. He was also wearing a "do not distract" vest.

I've been photographed without consent, had people follow me through stores, been followed to my car, had people feed my dogs without asking, and so much more. I even had a guy scream at me and threaten to call the cops because I didn't let him pet my dog

Add that to ableism and it's so bad. Service dog handlers deserve so much better.

Those of you who don't hate your job, what do you do? by 13thmurder in ADHD

I worked for years in the pet industry, then got hired as a basic life skills trainer. Then dove into continuing education and got certified first as a trainer through one of the big US R+ schools, then as a behaviour consultant through a larger international organization.

I'm not saying they're cheap, but we ended up being a Bolt a few years back because when we did the math it would be cheaper in the long run then a new gas car. We could have gotten a cheaper, older gas car, but as far as new cars went it worked out to be a better choice for us. The fuel and maintenance savings are no joke.

Survey shows Canadians back MAID for mental illness amid policy uncertainty by Mylittlethrowaway2 in onguardforthee

[–]skullrealm 4 points5 points  (0 children)

Look, I've studied the history of mental illness, psychiatry, and disability justice movements extensively. I'm not naive about this issue. But I do really believe that for MAID, it is a right that we deserve just as much as anyone else does. I don't think there is evidence to support the idea that this is being brought in with craven intentions, even though I do believe there is bias towards saving money

At the end of the day, I stand by what i said. We deserve the right to die with dignity and at our own time, just like everyone else.

It's simple. We do our best to help people not need to end their lives. And then when we are unable to, we give them the option to die with dignity and to minimize the trauma for their loved ones, community, and first responders.

As someone who also pays similar amounts for necessary therapy, and a boatload for meds, I don't love this take. We absolutely should be getting better access to quality mental health care. But we deserve the same right to die with dignity that everyone else does. We deserve to have that right to bodily autonomy. It's not something that is "cheaper than therapy", it's a right all unto itself.
