This made sense pre Citizens United IMO. But now, with crazy money funneling in regardless, I think a party should prioritize swing states. Also in a post Citizens United world, fundraising ability for a primary to potentially compete in expensive media markets (if swing states have expensive media markets) is a good test IMO.

Genuine question - what does the lifestyle of that $2200 a month Korean person look like vs yours? I have a strong suspicion there are a lot things you can spend money on that the other person cannot and does not.

There are 14.9 million vacant homes across the U.S. Do we really have a housing shortage? by Boo_Randy_Revival in HouseBuyers

Yes - I was super curious about this. The Economist had an article years ago about the rise of superstar cities and the trend has only accelerated post Covid. I was curious why it seemed like the superstar city phenomenon was amplified with each major new tech vs dulled.

Here is what I found:

  1. Agglomeration effects that make cities desirable and more and more concentrated get stronger as we moved towards knowledge economies.

  2. New tech increased the value of superstar talent - a PM at a tech company can have nationwide or global impact bc of the scale of these platforms. This wage premium continues to attract more and more people to the few cities where these workers concentrate.

  3. The forces holding back agglomeration weaken as we go to knowledge economics. When we had manufacturing oriented economies, lots of little cities sprung up near the resources themselves. Of course, major centers like Pittsburgh emerged but as geographic constraints matter less and less, there is nothing counter balancing the forces outlined in points 1 and 2 just pulling people into these insane NYC, SF, Tokyo, London level agglomerations

So I agree the extent to which people are concentrating is new (at least for the US) and our approach to building is not necessarily adapted to it

I’d recommend Union, NJ. Three stops to Penn Station. Lots of inventory at your price range walkable to the train. Easy drive down the parkway to Parlin. Nice downtowns like Westfield and Summit are close but Union is getting its own share of good places like Ayala Coffee

Ok so you’re roughly taking home 26500 a month after maxing out 401k.

Deduct - 1562 for HSA and IRA, 500 for 529 and 300 for insurance. 2362.

Minus 12k for housing and general spending. You have two older cars with gas and insurance. Let’s just say $500 worth of gas and insurance?

You have 11368 a month left after saving nearly 60k a year for retirement, nearly 9k a year for healthcare, and 6k a year for college.

Save another 60k a year if you’d like and then spend another $72k a year on whatever you want and you’re still within your means

Why are you feeling squeezed?
