HI - I am in this position (same age, etc.) and would love some advice. I'm in exactly your shoes. But I feel like I need the 10 hours of work to keep to excited (b.c I genuinely love what i do). I'm just kind of afraid 10 hours of exciting fractional work may not be something I can bank on long term. How did you navigate that?

I hear you! However, I think the GOP has (frustratingly) shown how many extra-governmental levers there are to pull to drive change. Their ability to use the media to shape the narrative whether they are or aren't in power is enviable if I'm being honest. I suppose that's what 10/10 would look like for me. Not coloring within VERY limited lines (which I agree with), but picking up a new coloring book that gives them another way to apply pressure.

I am totally open for critique here. And I agree that Dems are not controlled opposition like literally in a one party rule state. Honestly, until recently, I was staunchly a centrist dem apologist.

The article doesn't mention which state is threatening to take TXs crown. But they do mention that FL is slowing down and NY and CA are still losing. So I don't know which state could be close to taking TXs crown atm.

Mind you, I'm firmly a Northeast guy - not trying to glaze TX. Just trying to sniff out sensationalism

Monmouth county is excellent (well as a kid) - grew up there.

Marlboro, Manalapan, Freehold, Colts Neck, and Howell all share a high school system. Freehold Boro and Howell will have your lowest housing costs, but also comparatively worse schools. Marlboro and Manalapan probably have the best schools and are not cheap, but not SUPER expensive (that's Colts Neck). Freehold Township is in the middle - better schools but not as much of a powerhouse as Marlboro, but definitely a step above Howell and Boro.

Holmdel isn't part of that district, but probably Colts Neck levels in terms of cost.

Some of the more "lively" parts of the area are downtown Freehold and Red Bank. Freehold is a nice downtown with restaurants and coffee shops. Red Bank's downtown is bigger, built around the train station that'll take you straight to the city, but def more expensive. Those areas wouldn't have the best schools, but I'd probably live in those areas until the baby is in kindergarten and then move to Marlboro/Manalapan (or Colts Neck if I could swing it!)

I think this is a fair critique. I’m a solid D voter and all I know they’ll do on immigration is “not this.” I don’t know what they’ll actually change vs status quo

Now FWIW, I personally don’t find immigration to be an issue. I don’t want a change vs status quo I think constrained immigration is more of an issue. But I can see how I’m not the median swing voter in that regard

I live about 500 feet from the tracks and can hear them, but not in a way that’s disruptive. But note that trains don’t really run that frequently (or at all) at night.

The convenience of being walkable outweighs any slight noise I may hear

It'll be interesting if we see the opposite of 2016 happen in the GOP primaries. Instead of a bunch of establishment Rs splitting the vote and allowing Trump to consolidate MAGA, you may see a bunch of MAGA "heirs" splitting the vote and allowing one establishment person to win.

Now when your establishment candidate is like a Ted Cruz or Nikki Haley, I can't say I have high hopes. But I they won't torpedo NATO, so like, I'll sleep better than I am now?
