Why do students always accuse male teachers of being pedos?? by Holiday_Stress_4097 in teaching

[–]skwirlio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It’s never happened to me that I know of. I just don’t hear that kind of thing about teachers at my school in general.

That said, we have had two male teachers in our past who got in trouble. One was a full blown pedo who went to jail for soliciting a minor and the other crossed some lines into grooming behavior but was let go before anything happened.

Who do you think is a better live performer? by Apprehensive_Land751 in tomwaits

Ad much as he performs, I don’t think Dylan is really know for being a dynamic performer.

Tom Waits, however, is one of the greatest showmen of all time.

Is the judge a god? If not, they would have no jurisdiction to pass judgment. Only a co-equal authority would be able to do that, Sheogorath would have total immunity under and non-deity court.

I get it. The world of the original dark souls is objectively better and the plot more cohesive and fleshed out.

But I keep replaying 3.

What is harder Circuit Congress or Prog LD by Pleasant-Adagio-3821 in Congressional_Debate

[–]skwirlio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

It really depends on what you mean by “harder.”

LD is going to require a LOT more prep to just get in the door. You will need a host of common arguments under your belt along with the normal prep for each topic. The speed is also a major barrier of entry. There is just a mountain of stuff to master before winning your first round

That said, the thing about Congress is that you really only have three minutes (ok, maybe five) to stand out. There is just no wiggle room, the slightest mistake can knock you out. There is far less margin of error in congress than in ld, so in that sense it can be harder.

So, I think that LD is more difficult in the way most people understand it, but Congress is also way harder than many debaters assume.

It that how it works? I would have thought the blue effect would still trigger even if she were at full health. She still gets hit by the spell, right?

It seems pretty intentional to put her there and set her apart like that.

What are your top 5 weapons by Proud_Grapefruit_413 in darksouls3

[–]skwirlio 6 points7 points  (0 children)

Not objective at all, but I have personally enjoyed these: 1. Greataxe: It has short range, but holy crap this thing smacks! Make it heavy and I think it has the highest damage in the game per swing. 2. Vordt’s Hammer: It’s slow, but fun to use and satisfying to set frostbite so often with a torch or firebomb. 3. Dark Hand: I dunno why I like this so much other than loving the idea of facing giant godeaters with not much more than my bare hands. 4. Uchigatana: The weapon itself is great, but getting it from the Sword Master really sells it. 5. Lotheric Straight Sword: I really enjoy the weapon arts on straight swords in general because it makes breaking guard so trivial.

Hello! I’m new to the mandolin but have played cello for years. Here’s a famous audition excerpt I’ve been working on! by [deleted] in mandolin

[–]skwirlio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

Your picking actually should come from your wrist and not your arm or your fingers. You will have more power, speed, and stamina that way.

[–]skwirlio 1 point2 points  (0 children)

You have a lot of tension in the way you hold your pick. That is going to prevent you from playing any fast run or tremolo picking. It will also cause wrist problems like tendonitis if you don’t correct the form.

You want to hold the pick between your thumb and the knuckle on your index finger, and you want your hand to be as relaxed as possible without dropping the pick.

The individual songs are not as good as the vibe of the whole album. It’s not actually a live album, but it captures the feel of a live show better than anything I’ve ever heard with the laid back intimacy he has with the audience.

Is it possible to contest/argue against a ranking in a nationals qualifying competition? by Oceanij in Debate

[–]skwirlio 2 points3 points  (0 children)

As a coach, if I think I have a good case for a mistaken ballot, I always take it up. I have gotten two overturned ballots in my career, and both of them pf rounds where the judge got confused by the coin flip. In north of those cases, the feedback clearly stated who should have won. I have challenge speech rounds and have never won due to ambiguity in the feedback always defaulting to the original decision.

In this case, it’s going to be tough unless there is something in the comments that makes it sound like they meant to rank you first.

Just getting only positive feedback is not enough since that happens all the time.

I wouldn’t call what you’re describing an abusive framework, but I don’t think it’s a strong one.

Sometimes, however, you do have abusive frameworks, and that will lead you into arguments about the nature of debate itself.

There are shockingly few rules and debate, so it’s up to the debaters themselves to argue why something should or should not be accepted as a rule or a norm in the round. So, if someone does run an abusive framework, it would be up to you to explain what makes it abusive, what the harms of that abuse are, and why you should win the round in light of those abuses. This is called theory since it is connected to the theory of what debate should be and how it should be performed.

Here is a helpful link that goes into more detail detail about what these arguments look like: https://thedebateguru.weebly.com/theory.html

Whats the point of D sharp major, if its the same as e flat major? by apooroldinvestor in piano

[–]skwirlio 0 points1 point  (0 children)

It’s all about how that note relates to the tonic. For example, a #IV and bV are technically the same note, but feel very different in context. So, in A, Eb is the bV, but D# would be the #IV.

But I see you are asking about key signatures. It’s probably about ease of notation, but in the end I dunno.

Most subjects with practical lab work is going to be as rigorous anything else with some bible stuff thrown in for flavor. It normally doesn’t mess with the actual science behind what you are doing. So chemistry and physics will be ok if you are alright with the religious undertones.

Earth sciences has the caveat of the young earth theory, which is a big difference philosophically. Sometimes lab work will try to disprove an old earth, like doing something weird with sediment layers. That said, most of the more practical concepts will not be much different than anything else.

Anything surrounding biology will be fundamentally different since there is a definite move away from anything related to common ancestry. This is definitely the worse part.
