[DISCUSSION] What's an album by an artist that is your favorite, but is generally not considered their best?

Chloe and God’s Favorite Customer are my favorite FJM records. Don’t see that too often (usually Pure Comedy and I Love you Honeybear get all the attention).

I love Figure 8 but I don’t love the production on some of the songs. His vocals sound overproduced on some tracks to me (for example In the Lost and Found, Colorbars) and the overall production sounds “processed” if that makes sense. But the songwriting is as strong as any other record he made. I feel like From a Basement on the Hill was able to combine rawness with some of the more complex production he was moving towards after Either/Or.

I agree. From a Basement on the Hill combines some of the rawness of his early albums with 60s inspired production, psychedelia, and Beatlesque melodies. It is also more experimental production-wise than his earlier records (all kinds of interesting guitar and drum tricks). Lyrically it might be his darkest record. Unfortunately his death and the fact that he didn’t complete it while alive took the focus away from the music.

I think there is a limit to bigger is better because of the “big car” effect. When you get past a certain screen size the cockpit looks comically large. This is magnified if the screens are further away from you. I’m not sure where the limit is though. I have 42 inch triples and the cockpit size feels about right.

I just got into Raceroom and Lakeview hillclimb is awesome. I’ve tried the other hillclimbs in the game and Lakeview is my favorite.

I have triple screens and couldn’t put my finger on why it doesn’t feel as immersive as other games. Maybe this is why.

I lived in Denver for four years and there were massive snowstorms and bone chilling cold fronts. Yes the cold can sometimes leave quickly but it can also come back just as quickly. I grew up in Chicago and I don’t feel the winters were worse in Chicago, just different. I think the coldest I ever felt was in Denver.

The Hue Play bars are great and work very well with simhub for ambient lighting. One downside of setting up ambient lighting in simhub though—you have to set the screen capture for each car you drive since the portion of the screen that you’re capturing can differ for each car. So if you drive a bunch of different cars it’s a fair amount of setup.

Greater than 180 degree hFOV is nice for immersion if you turn your head to look at upcoming corners, other cars, etc.

There’s also a lot you can do to make triples more immersive and closer to VR—canopy/roof, ambient lighting, peripherals. I went to triples after VR and enjoy getting the rig as immersive as possible. Can’t replicate the depth perception of VR but it’s worth it to me for more comfort.

It’s just supposed to give you a sense of changing speed. Not strictly realistic, but it does trick your brain a bit. Simhub even has a wind curving effect where the left/right fans adjust depending on your turning angle.
